It is a relatively steep climb to the top. The path is paved. Once there you have a spectacular 360 degree of Hermanus and the ocean. Excellent place for taking pictures.

The history of this koppie speaks to the very origins of life in southern Africa, which makes it a) incredibly special; and b) a great experiential education tool for young southern African children. The midden mound is phenomenal, the graves of Mr and Mrs Hoy on top have their own stories to tell.
Anyone exploring the colourful history of the Western Cape should read up more about both the strandlopers who called the Klipkop Cave their home for tens of thousands of years, as well as what makes Mr Hoy such an (in)famous and colourful piece of Hermanus history.
The biggest let down for us was the litter at the start of the trail on the shopping centre side, underneath the elevated wooden platform, as well as along certain sections of the trail. We tried to pick up as much as we could, but a focused clean-up by whomever is responsible for maintaining the hill is needed urgently.

This is a worthwhile amble up the steps and path, giving you a great view of Hermanus and Walker Bay. Children would cope easily, and dogs enjoy the walk.

Korte, super leuke klim, vanaf de voet ben je in max 15 min boven. Mooi uitzicht over Hermanus. Auto kun je onderaan parkeren.

This spot does give a good view of Hermanus. Funny how Sir William Hoy, responsible for so much of SA railways managed to stop the train coming To Hermanus. Probably just as well, and thankfully Hermanus has remained its scale and character.

Like other reviewers, I found this a great afternoon hike...just under an hour going up. The path is a bit uneven in places, and a walking pole/stick might be helpful to steady you up and down. I was fortunate that the security guard was just going off duty, but decided to give us a personal guide to the top and back again! For not a lot of effort, the views are worth the climb, but it is disappointing that the graves at the top are nameless and no information boards....though there is one at start of the walk.
Alternatively, if you’d rather drive to your view point, try Rotary Way...a winding hill road on the western fringe of Hermanus....signposted from the main road out of town. Fantastic views across Walker Bay, and on a clear day to Danger Point on the other side of the bay.

A steep but manageable climb in Central Hermanus. Try it on a clear day...terrific views. Sadly the plaques for Sir Wlliam Hoy and his wife have been "removed"... We climb each year hoping that they will have been replaced....It is worth the effort.

This is were Sir and Lady Hoy were buried, on top of Hoys Koppie. Mr Hoy were the General Manager of the Railway at beginning of the 20th Century. He wanted to keep Hermanus clean and did not want unwanted elements to come to Hermanus, so he had the power to stop any railway tracks and trains to come to Hermanus. The station were already build and become a bus station. Hermanus were known back in the days as an very popular fishing place. And because we never had trains coming here, Hermanus is proud to have a SANSA agency in Hermanus

I do think it is quite save to start walking from East Cliff Spar on the sea paths up to Grotto beach. It is a very nice walk with a beautiful view.

I do this walk very often and never felt threaten at all. I have never heard about cars that got broken into or stolen.
