We came across this place by accident. But we’re so glad we did. Some really lovely memorials. Well worth a walk around. Very well tended area. We easily spent an hour looking around

We are from the UK on a road trip around Arizona and decided to end our visit in Phoenix. We walked out to the capitol building and thoroughly enjoyed all of the information in the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza. In particular the memorials to those veterans who died in the service of their country. It’s such a shame that nobody can be bothered to empty and clean up the waste bins. The contents were spread all around. Not what I expect to see in such a memorial.

Lovely memorials to those who lost their lives serving their country. Sad, though, to see so few people there.
We were visiting from the UK and were particularly moved by the memorial to those who lost their lives on the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbour.
Those men may not have seen action, but their loss was the trigger for the USA to join the fight for freedom from facism. We Europeans owe those men a huge debt of gratitude. Excellent memorials such as this act as a permanent reminder of the sacrifice of those who have gone before and the importance of standing up for freedom and democracy.

This memorial area next to the old Arizona capital building has several monuments & memorials set in a well-designed & beautifully landscaped park. There is plenty of free parking. Come here if you are in Phoenix.

This is a beautiful and peaceful space in the city of Phoenix. Plenty of free parking. We came here on Veteran's Day, not too many people. A lot of memorials and USS Arizona anchor is here.
A lot of small US flags were placed, made quite a sight. A good place to remember and honor the fallen.

I have been to downtown Phoenix many times over the years for business and have never had the time to walk through the plaza and really had no idea what was there. In October 2019 I arrived an hour and a half early for a meeting, I found a parking spot in the plaza, from where I parked I realized I could see two very large 16 inch guns from the USS Arizona. As I walked closer I saw the signal tower and one of her anchors and a beautiful display for the sailors who lost their lives. The entire plaza is full of memorials from the USS Arizona, Navajo Code Talkers all branches of the military and law enforcement, even a beautiful statue honoring Father Eusebio Kino. I enjoyed walking the plaza and spending time at each memorial. I plan on going again so I can spend more than an hour. It's a for history buffs and people that just want to pay respects.

I am sure that most people in Phoenix have never been to this park and many probably haven't any idea what is here. I first visited the park in the late 70s and over the years it has gotten better and more beautiful. The highlight of the park is the memorial to the USS Arizona BB39. There is the anchor salvaged from the ship and the main mast that was originally sent to Ohio. One of the 14" rifle barrels from the Arizona is there. It wasn't on the ship but was being refinished and later mounted on the USS Nevada. A 16" barrel from the USS Missouri is also at the park, The names of all the men that died on the Arizona are also there.
The park also is a memorial for the military from World Wars 1 and 2, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom. There is also a Code Talker Memorial.
The memorial also is for police and firefighters and there are other monuments and memorials to other historical events. There is parking on the site.

Did not know what to expect. Serene spot of memorial for all different areas. Those that dont know history are bound to repeat it. Would definitely take a few moments to reflect on many lives lost.

Hello - I am a member of a loosely organized group that send CARE packages to deployed soldiers and sailors. Our current group is Seal Team #1 deployed to Iraq and other places. As you most likely know Chief Special Operator Charles Keating IV was killed in Iraq on May 3, 2016. We would like to donate a memorial bench with his life details, accomplishments, etc. He is an Arizona boy, track star at Arcadia High and MCC so we feel a memorial in the valley is appropriate especially since he will not be buried here (he's been interned into Rosecrans National Cemetery). Please send me any forms or instructions on how to begin this process. Thank You. Dave Murray, (480) 650-6037

Wonderful idea -- you might contact the State Capitol and see how they direct you, if that is where you would like to do this. What a noble offer and commitment. Another idea is to contact your state senator and have them help you with a direct contact. Blessings and yes, praying for the Keating family.

Absolutely. Bring your puppy. Bring a blanket and a picnic lunch and sit under one of the big trees.
However, I do not believe that dogs are allowed in the Capital Museum.
Cheers
