Paid the $3 fee and parked at the boat launch parking lot (has restroom facilities). We did the entire loop around the lake which took us about three hours. The first half of the loop is mainly over the dells. You will need to do some climbing of the rocks and it is slightly more than the "moderate" hike rating that it is given. The other half of the loop is flat land. There is wonderful scenery and lots of photo opportunities. If you do the entire loop, you will not find restroom facilities until almost the end (if you get off at the dog park lot). You can always just do half of the loop and turn around. You will get the better views doing the dell portion, but the other half will definitely be less strenuous.

Willow Lake Park is a great place to visit because of its abundant wildlife, beautiful scenery and range of activities. Every time I visit Willow Lake, I feel blessed and grateful to God. It is a magical and unique place in Prescott, Arizona. I love to paddle to the center of the lake, close my eyes, and feel the wind blowing softly on my face. It is relief for my soul. Bird song is heavenly music to my ears, but more importantly, my spirit finds rest when I hear the breeze rustle through the trees. My five senses rejoice with the wonders of creation.
The lake is calm and quiet. Tall cottonwoods guard the serenity of the place. In the morning, the water does not move very much, and you can see your image reflected on the surface of the lake. You can sit on a bench; admire the incredible view, or read a book. Nothing and nobody disturbs your thoughts. In the fall, the sunset is perfect. It captures you, and you do not want to leave. You want to stay there forever.
When you are at Willow Lake, one feels close to nature. There is so much wildlife, fish, and bullfrogs. Mallard ducks, grebes, herons, and Canadian geese surround the lake. The ducks swimming underwater offer a fantastic show. It is also lovely to see the ducks paddling up to the dock when they see you have bread to feed them.
Many people go to Willow Lake for kayaking, fishing, hiking, picnicking, or just taking pictures. The place is easy to find. You can drive by Highway 89 A and turn left at Willow Creek Rd. On weekends it is full of visitors, but sometimes during the week you can be the only person on the lake and enjoy the beauty for yourself. You can take your kayak, paddle around the lake to enjoy the wildlife. For fishermen, bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill, and sunfish are plentiful. The lake has hiking trails that connect to Watson Lake. You can have a pleasant experience walking around the rocks, breathing fresh air, and taking pictures. It is a great spot to go with your family for a picnic and beautiful scenery. There are ramadas, picnic tables, and restrooms. Most importantly, it is a safe place to enjoy.
Right now, in October, the lake is low, and there is a lot of pond scum, green algae, and a few mosquitoes. For example, you are unable to do enjoyable things, such as fishing or kayaking. In spring, the lake floods due to the winter snow and rain. When it is windy, it is hard to paddle even if you have a stable boat. Swimming is not allowed in any of the Prescott area lakes.
I have visited the different lakes such as Watson Lake, Granite Basin Lake, Lynx Lake, Kaibab Lake, Lake Havasu, and Lake Mead, but for me, Willow Lake is unique. For a fee of three dollars, less than I pay for a gallon of gas, I refresh my body, and I renew my spirit. If you are in Prescott or are visiting Arizona, do not miss this fantastic experience of being close to nature and God at Willow Lake. Your entire soul and body will thank you.

Willow Lake park is located on the far north side of Prescott, AZ. It has a boating ramp for kayaks, etc; picnic tables & covered verandas. We came to the park to hike the trail around the lake. Took us just over 3hrs for the approx 7 mile hike. It was 7 miles due to the trail being flooded on the southeastern side. I would not suggest this trail for little kids.
My thoughts are if they are going to fill the lake there should be another router around the southeast side so you don't have to either turn around and go all the way back you came or trespass thru the trailer park to get to highway 89 and then walk along Willow Lake Rd to get back onto the trial.
The southern side is flat and boring, if you ask me. The northern side of the trail cuts alongside the Heritage Park Zoo and thru the Willow Lake Park amenities. Hiking among the granite dells (big round boulders) is sometimes challenging, but a good experience. The lake area is beautiful. Bring plenty of water and perhaps a snack.

There are many things to do around Willow Lake but my favorite is to hike through the Granite Dells rock formations to a trail called the Apex. You'll scrabble up the rocks to the top of a large formation until the trail ends with a commanding view of the area rocks and then turn around and you can see quite a bit of Prescott layed out in front of you. A great place to stop and have a snack before heading back down.
Like all the City of Prescott trails, there are maps at each intersection all around the Lake and many different ways to go, each offering a different perspective of the surround Granite Dells.

Beautiful lake in a beautiful setting. Extra props for the super long dock - plenty of space for multiple fishermen. We will be back!

You will have totally different hikes here depending upon the season. When the water is low there is no rock face climbing and the trail is a different one than for the high water mark hikes. It is actually a little sad to hike when the water is low because the rocks show how much it has receded. Our hiking group loves to hike the lakes in the area. Sometimes we hike from Willow to Watson Lake too.

Willow Lake Park is 400 acres of hiking and boating (no swimming) in Prescott, Arizona. She's connected on her western shore to Watson Lake Park, another beautiful land and water conglomeration.

My wife and took a brief respite and did some light hiking around the area during a recent vacation to Prescott.

Willow and Watson Lake are defined by their Granite Dells, large boulders of granite and exposed bedrock that have eroded into a rounded, lumpy byway. Hiking trails in the area take you over, around and through these structures.

It is, in a word, gorgeous. However, a word to the casual hiker. Proper footwear is strongly suggested. And you might want to wear a pair of workout or hiking gloves as well.

As I said, our visit was but a brief respite after spending a couple of hours at the nearby Heritage Park Zoo. During our next trip, we are planning a more extensive exploration.
