Beautiful scenic drive. Tasty tacos and prickly pear lemonade at the saloon and refreshing prickly pear gelato from the country store. Great way to spend an afternoon.

Stop by the Old Town and saddle up at the bar and have lunch at the Saloon!

Fun area. Tons of tourists. Parking difficult. Main restaurant crowded. Music good. Shops, trinkets, souvenirs readily available.

The only remaining stagecoach station is on the long, winding, and historic Apache Trail. This Historical Landmark is one of the most unique spots in Arizona when it comes to reckoning with territorial history, geographic past and present, North American human history, and the expansion of the West. This place is an extraordinary remnant of Superstition Mountains lore. Rumor has it Jesuits hid gold in the area; the wealthy landowner Miguel Peralta is said to have uncovered some of this gold in the 1800s; roamed and inhabited by the Yavapai. Mostly desolate, the first real road was constructed when Roosevelt Dam went up and when abouts Tortilla Flat came to be in 1904. Needless to say - there is not much to do here, but you can spend a few entertaining hours as it is drenched in history, natural beauty, awe inspiring and magnificence. Then you have the town. This quaint wild west one-street, one-sided town keeps your attention span busy. Visit the local museum with its curios, have some finger-licking tasty open-air BBQ on the patio – with live music, get souvenirs at the Mercantile gift shop, mail something at the post office, quench your thirst and hunger at the saloon. By the way, the food here is pretty good. They serve a decent array of bar food like burgers, chili, burgers, and appetizers – all reasonably decent. During our last visit we had: a well-prepared Moscow Mule; some Sarsaparilla; tasty Bull with Onion Rings; a really good Brisket Sandwich with Onion Rings. BTW, see if you can count the money plastered on every space! Don’t sit at the bar if you can’t ride a horse. And enjoy the beautiful and scenic drive to and from, you won’t regret it.

Great food, very informative and quaint museum, and stunning surrounding views. It’s a nice place to stretch one’s legs, and there is plenty of quality hiking in the surrounding areas.

After Dolly Steamboat we wanted lunch and this saloon did not disappoint. Dollar bills make up the wallpaper, saddle seats line the bar, and various memorabilia and history throughout. Keg root beer is excellent as were our lunches. Big portions on the salads and the chili. If you can make it through 147 curves of the road to the saloon it is well worth it.

Driving up to Tortilla Flat had absolutely beautiful scenery with multiple pull-offs on the way. The drive up is worth it for the scenery alone, with Tortilla Flat being a great place to get out, stretch, go in the shops and have lunch. We had a great lunch at the restaurant - which if it is busy they give you a buzzer and you can wander around while you wait. The gift shop is nice also. Driving by Canyon Lake is beautiful and we also stopped by Goldfield Ghost Town on the way. Next time we will make time for Lost Dutchman State Park. There is alot to do in this area, highly recommend the drive up to Tortilla Flat!

This review is for the little town of Tortilla Flat, not the scenic drive to get here. The drive is beautiful and combined with the steamboat tour is worth the trip. After the steamboat tour we went the mile or two into town. By then it was crowded and you could barely get a place to park. The store was crowded and there was no chance of getting into the restaurant. The store had many of same items we saw at numerous other stores. The little museum that told the history of the town was the only thing we found worthwhile. The town didn't really have the Old West feel for us with all the cars and crowds.
I recommend the drive and the steamboat, and if you do those then there is no reason not to at least drive by the town and see it (which may be all you can do given the parking problems.). I would not make the town my primary reason for going.

Tortilla Flat is one of those destinations that everyone should visit at least once. There is one restaurant, one patio bar/BBQ with some food items, museum, an ice cream shop/general store and gift shop. Bar stools inside are made of saddles. The regular band that plays outside is good and does a great job interacting with the crowd. All staff that we have interacted with are courteous and friendly. The only draw back is the road to get there, and parking depend on the day and time you go. If you plan to eat, get there early or prepare to wait.

Fun old western town. It's only about 1 block long, but in the most beautiful mountains.To arrived there, you must drive a road with over 100 curves. Enjoy the view if you are not driving! The restaurant is very popular on weekend and there is a wait. They have saddles to sit in at the bar.

Is the road there extremely curvy? How long is the drive from apache junction?

It's not a drive for the weak. Seriously, it's a lot longer than you would think and it WILL take you a long time. I would allot twice the time that Google maps would tell you, simply because the views are so stunning and you will want/need to go slower than you'd plan. (also, you will want to pull over for pics!) It's a really cool turn around spot, too, if you don't want to do the entire Superstition drive.
