This is probably the best hiking area we have been to. Easily accessed by traveling east on the north frontage road all the way to the end (aroad barrier). You will find a large parking area and a good view of the mountains. As you walk toward the three poled power line, you will see the mainenance road on the right, parralleling the highway. It is quite steep and mostly loose rocks but also doable. In front of the power poles, there three pathes all going to a drop off. After going down the drop off, straight ahead is a path that goes straight up a steep mountain. We couldn't find the right path to climb and it is very steep with lots os loose rocks. Not for the beginner. The best trail is on the right after going down the drop from the power poles. This trail starts after you cross large rocks, just keep right and you will see the entrance to the trail. It is well traveled. It is flat at the begining but after a slow curve you are in front of the first of several climbs with short trails between them to get to the top of the hill. An easier path is on the left just before you get to the first climb. This trail goes along the side of the hill and climbs slowly. Toward the end of the trail, you will need to climb to reach the main trail. This is the same trail that you would be on if you climbed earlier. Only you will be further down the trail, on your way to the road to the multiple antennas that can be seen from almost everywhere inYuma. They are a collection of several company's individual service antennas. As you continue on the trail, you will drop down to the service road for the antennas. There is a gate that says "No Trespassing" as well as a large garbage bin and two port-a-poties. I thought this was confusing but on Sunday morning, you had better get there early because the parking lot will be full and the number of people climbing up the road will look like ants from a distance. It appears this is a tradition with many families so the "No Trespassing" is moot. The road is concrete, steep and curvey. My wife tapped out half way up. I continued but never made it to the top. Close but not quite. Take plenty of water and maybe something to eat. It would take about 3 hours for the round trip. If you are not into self punishment, the trail going to the road has many offshoots that can take you to the many viewpoints the hill and mountains can give. This is adventure for the family and it is well used. We went to these trails several times each week over our 5 month stay. I highly recommend it.

Challenging trail for some hikers such as myself, I walk a few miles everyday, but this a challenge. The walk to the base of the hill was nice. Beautiful scenery and mountain life, lizards and quail. Very friendly hikers on the trail and the peak is breathtaking! A sign in book waits at the top.
It was my birthday and I wanted to challenge my fitness level, my heart was pumping near the steep top! I love it!
Take water, a hat, sunglasses, chap stick,
Sunscreen and a friend !

We are winter residents from Iowa. I made it to the top of the mountain 16 times last winter. Great trail several ways to get up or down. The park is very well kept, No litter, if I did see some I would pack it out. But in general people were very neat.
It's a winter treat and helps work off cocktail hour. See ya in December.

This is a two part hike. Part one is from the end of the north frontage road to the gate where the utility road goes to the top. From the parking lot to the gate is 3.2 miles round trip. Not terribly difficult. Lots of uphill and down hill on well worn trails or you can take one of the dirt roads. There is lots of loose gravel. Wear sturdy hiking shoes. As the weather gets warmer you might see rattlesnakes on or near the trail. When you get to the gate, this hike gets much tougher. It's approximately 1 mile straight uphill to the top. I use hiking poles. Well worth the cost. There is also a dirt trail which starts to the right of the gate. I haven't tried it but I see people on it often. Again, as the weather gets warmer, the earlier you start the better. At the top of the road, down a small incline is a metal box on a pole where an anonymous hiker keeps a notebook for others to write down their date of hike and experiences. I've never found it full and have no idea who takes take of that. If you want to hike a little further up to the various utility buildings you can find other places to sit and take in the view. Heading back down is much harder on the knees. Take your time. Do not RUN!!!! I have seen more that one serious injury from people falling because they lost control, started running, couldn't stop and face planted. I am 61 and the quickest I've made the roundtrip is 2 hours and 40 minutes with a brief stop on the top to eat an orange and re-hydrate. Bring plenty of water. I see all kinds of people. Families with young children, teenagers, seniors like me and much older. Be prepared and have fun!

Have done this a couple of times and it is doable with active children (6+). There is a great deal of wildlife and if your quiet and pay attention you may catch a hummingbird and maybe a nest! Steep at the top and there’s a book to sign - I’d suggest taking another up they get filled up!

Great hike and scenery. The trail starts from the parking area is unimproved (gravel), walk a mile and then starts a concrete road up (two clean portapotties there, only ones on the trail). I walked up the concrete path, but there is a trail off to the side (would be much more challenging) hard to find the off concrete path, maybe use a terrain picture to see it if you want. Only disappointment was in our fellow pet loving people who can not seem to manage picking up after their pets.

We like coming here to hike. Good trail with desert landscape throughout. Usually everyone else on the trail is friendly too. We like to bring our pup and our kids. It has a steep incline there at the end, but it isnt very difficult, and the view from the top is pretty great!

The beginning of the trail is an easier hike along a natural path. The second half of the hike is more difficult. Don't let the fact that it's paved fool you. A lot of people I talked to bit off on the wrong hike and they hiked up the peak that is right near the parking lot with a white cross on top. This isn't telegraph pass, although you can hike this peak too. The incline adds a level of difficulty, but the views at the top are definitely worth it. Out and back was just around 3 miles or so if I remember correctly.

Once you get out to the area you would have to cross a deep wash. We did see cars parked over there but I would not take my car through that area.
