This is a remarkable property right in the "old" part of town. The tour is fascinating and reveals a quite astonishing history. So glad to have had the chance to see such a wonderful house which by a miracle has become a family home once more. The owners have striven to restore as honestly as possible and their extraordinary hard work and attention to detail is every where to be seen.
We had a truly lovely afternoon and the lemon sponge was delicious!

We had the good fortune to have a tour of this property given by the owner. It was packed with information and anecdotes plus examples of the history of the house (I believe dates from 1280)
It was the highlight of a few days spent in Norfolk early in December

This is not just a significant building in King's Lynn, it must rank amongst the most significant surviving Merchant's houses in the country. It is open only on special days but always the Heritage weekends in September, check out the websites for details. It has had the great good fortune of being owned by two of our leading historians who have sensitively restored (ongoing) its many remarkable features. They delight and enchant their audience talking about their home. I'm told that the San Gimignano like tower was not fundamentally built to impress others but to allow the owner to have watchmen checking for when his ships returned so that goods could be taken to market quickly (the course of the Ouse was not what it is now). Whether that is true or not, you will be enriched by a visit to this superb medieaval survivor.

I have visited this house on more than one occasion and have found new things to view on each occasion. The Elizabethan tower gives a wonderful view of the of the river and the town. While the house is currently being very brought back to life.
Do visit the basement which is just a wow.

Visited with an Invitation to View group. This house just grows on you as you ascend from the ancient wine cellar through the house and up the tower for stunning views over the river and the town. Lots of surprises. But the best bit is perhaps the inspirational account the owner provides as he takes you through the history of a restoration project and the challenges of creating a family home.

This is an outstanding house with a fascinating history that was told to us by the owner who happens to have been in charge of English Heritage and is a brilliant raconteur and historian. There is nothing he does not know about the history of this house although he is still unearthing new facts day by day. It is not open to the public but you can go through "Invitation to View". Numbers are limited but that is to the advantage of those visiting. Captivating!

This site was open free today as part of Kings Lynn's Heritage Open Day. As far as I know, a private viewing is the only other way to experience this property.
The view from the tower was magnificent and there was also access to an impressive old-fashioned kitchen/dining room selling light snacks, a fascinating old crypt and other rooms containing information and scale models of the area.
