We hired bikes from the Padstow bike hire and cycled almost to Bodmin in less than a couple of hours of relatively gentle effort given the trail is effectively flat as it follows the route of the former railway. The views of the river and estuary are spectacular and there are lots of stopping places to sit and/or picnic if desired. The only section where we walked was through Wadebridge, where we felt a little concerned with the traffic. But it was short lived and then we were soon back on the trail. Our goal was the Camel trail tea gardens - an excellent watering hole to stop for refreshments and rest the legs before the return trip. A must do even if you are not a regular cyclist given it allows more of the trail to be explored than can be done on foot.

Very enjoyable walk along the disused railway.
3 miles from Padstow there is a railway carriage for a refreshing drink and wonderful brownie.
The trail is flat and a popular cycle route to Wadebridge.

Couldn’t find the start of the trail between Bodmin and Wadebridge so gave up and started at Wadebridge. We knew it would be busy but so busy it was hard to get any speed up and you have to allow for small children cycling enjoying themselves. We left our cycles at the cycle hire shop inside for a fee of 1.50 per bike which was very good as we were a few hours in Padstow, Not as busy going back to Wadebridge, It was a one off as we live six hours away but if we could of we would have loved to cycle very early from Bodmin. We are very fit, cycle fast and it’s more of a family ride speed as another post commented the same,

We cycled the camel trail from Wenford Bridge to Padstow. It is mostly flat, off-road (except a little bit through Wadebridge) and well surfaced (gravel/tarmac).

Definitely requires a reasonable level of fitness to do the whole trail as it’s about 36 miles in total (with return).

Last year we hired a dog trailer for the Wadebridge to Padstow bit which was good fun. However we would recommend taking own bikes if possible as some hire bikes we saw this time were in poor condition.

We had forgotten our bike locks so used the indoor lock up in Padstow (£1.50 per bike). We thought this was good value and would use again but we would still lock our bikes up in the facility next time as there is an open door at the side and we were slightly concerned regarding security.

Cycling made easy. The Camel Trail suits all standards and is a pleasant way to visit Padstow from Wadebridge or Bodmin.

If you devour sisgel and need a carbon fibre bike to shave 8 seconds of your time - then you'll probably hate this.

On the other hand if you cycle now and again, are out with the family or are taking selfies along the way. This is then much more your thing.

A great trail, nice countryside and a great day out.

Lovely trail. Clean. Busy. Two reasons i haven’t given it a 5 - 1) it was very busy and not socially distanced. There were no signs up about keeping your distance. 2) there were a lot of loose stones in some places. It needed a good sweep.

Highly recommend this ! As a family of 5 we hired bikes in Wadebridge and cycled to Padstow then back. After that we cycled to Bodmin and back to Wadebridge. It's very flat and an easy cycle so can highly recommend doing the whole route otherwise it's not very far. There's a lovely cream tea place en route to Bodmin too - delicious fresh lunch - very friendly. Avoid the pub that is towards the end of the Bodmin part.

We are a family of four (with a 5 and 7 year old) and hired four bikes at Padstow to cycle the Camel Trail. We didn't cycle the whole trail, but went about a mile past Wadebridge before turning back and going for a mooch in Wadebridge as the 7 year old started to complain of being a bit saddle sore! It's a lovely flat trail that is really easy to cycle, and our 5 year old managed it without any problems. The kids were very excited to see a 'ship-wreck' along the way and we stopped off to investigate! We probably cycled around 14 miles in total. The trail can get very busy with some inconsiderate people, although on the whole everyone was very lovely, Going through Wadebridge on the road with a 5 year old and 7 year old was a bit tricky, as there was a fair bit of traffic. On the way back we found an alternative route along the estuary behind the Tesco car park. This had an added bonus of a playground, where we spent around an hour!

We had a lovely walk along part of the trail towards padstow.
The downside was a lot of dog mess that wasn’t cleared up .. the worse I’ve seen for a long time . Unfortunately our 4 year old trod on it in sandals then took her sandal off ! Say no more ..

Lovely family friendly flat trail, we did the whole trail to wenfordbridge came it at 60km so a long way but really easy riding on gravel.
Just far too busy in summer months, especially between Padstow and Wadebridge.
