Lyme Regis is a lovely, quaint place. My partner and I spent the weekend with my partners daughter who lives in Devon. she also loves it at Lyme Regis. we had a lovely walk along the beach and wall. it is a great place to take photos. The mist was coming in over the hills which made it a spectacular view. We went to the shops. There is such a variety of shops. I would most definitely recommend a day out here. The only negative I have, is the parking is not great. Other than that, if you have never visited Lyme Regis, it is a must.

This is supposed to be 7 miles. Just think of your lounge being around 20 feet long, but would that be representative if you had to climb over the settee, walk round the coffee table, then climb up onto the dining table and off the other end? The undercliff is up and down wooden steps, in and out of tree roots and always slippy, because it is in shade. From the minute you enter it it large trees, with ferns underneath. That is all you see until the minute you leave 4 hours later, apart from a couple of glimpses of the sea. It is tiring, boring and utterly pointless.Seriously, you would be much better off walking from Lyme Regis to Charmouth and back twice. Don't do it! Its a waste of life.

Visit for the day, car park gone from £2.50 a day to £8, went into a cafe restaurant 3 coffees ,3 croissants price £18.60, the croissants were small as well, goodness knows how much a meal would cost, it seems they are ripping off the public after been closed for so long put me off going again and i only live in exmouth

There is no way back once you start ,from Seaton to Lyme Regis . Its very muddy and slippy and balance needed . Feels like a walk through a jungle with not much view but lovely . I loved the endurance , the sound of the sea in certain parts . It took 6 hrs mainly because it was so slippy in places and we had a beer inThe Cob and a bus back to Seaton .
Wear good walking boots , use sticks and prepare yourself mentally for a challenge

This walk is unexceptional and requires you to finish it.
A much better option would be to find almost any other walk elsewhere!

Many of the reviews in this category speak of walks along the Lyme Regis sea front or of strolls along the Cobb. My understanding of the undercliff is of the 7 or so mile walk between LR and Axmouth or Seaton along the line of the ever-eroding and crumbling cliffside made famous in Fowles's French Lieutenant's Woman. This is a walk I have enjoyed twice now. It is other worldly in its sylvan beauty and serenity. Forming part of the SW Coastal Path, it is a highlight of this stretch of the South Coast for any walker. It is not an easy walk and, once embarked upon it, you either finish or retrace your steps, There is no mid point or track down to the beach. The surface of the path is criss crossed with roots and pitfalls for the unwary. On wetter days it is treacherous. That said, I would always recommend this walk to anyone wishing for a unique and memorable hiking experience

Absolutely beautiful place with the character I would expect from fisherman town. Good amenities. There is a big parking 10 min walk from the beach for £2 a day.because we are still in pandemic time and there is no much room on the streets and walking paths it was very difficult to keep social distancing .on the beach it was almost impossible. Beautiful but if you are worried about covid not a place for you at this moment of time

Is the middle of May a good time to fossil hunt in this area? How far of a walk are the cliffs from a car park? Is the car park a pay and display? Recommend a good British restaurant?

Parking is P & D but we parked up the road a little for nothing. Cliffs right next to walks. Not sure about fossil hunting to be honest as didn't check it out sorry

It would be if they enjoy walking. Path quite steep going up with scenic stream. Nice views on top here and their. The path as you enter the wooded area of undercliff can be tricky with uneven tree stumps.
