Only went because someone said their market was amazing, its not, I just knew there'd be 5 stalls and there was. I come from a market town so needs a large outside coffee shop in centre not down alleys, enough empty shops about. Greggs coffee same as a £4 one, all the caffs were full so takeaway at £2 it was. Plus sausage rolls, hot and cooked !! For a market town I couldnt buy any Cheese.

Absolutely appalled by the customer service by the Farmers Market stall staff that we experienced today (07/06/2024).
As we were queuing, a larger build male, middle age with glasses shouted at us saying “wakey wakey”. The people in front of us had only just moved away and I turned away for one second to speak to my mother in law.
My mother in law handed her items to this male who actually snatched the produce out of her hands, causing her to respond to me in shock stating that he had just snatched them really hard. He packed the items into a bag while my mother in law was still trying to tell him what she wanted, she asked for potatoes to which he rolled his eyes and grabbed out her items stating he will have to start again and put the potatoes at the bottom.
I then said to this male “that was really rude” to which he started arguing with me. I said to him that he seems to have an attitude problem to which he stated he did not and proceeded to shout to his colleagues, laughing between each other at what I had said.
At this point two other colleagues joined in and started laughing. We then walked away and said no more on the subject.
I have never had an experience like this on any Farmers Market and I am shocked that this was the way he, and his colleagues decided to treat us. We love to shop local and want to support local farms, however if this is how their staff act, I will not be returning to this particular stall.
There was absolutely no need to try to embarrass us for simply pointing out his rude behaviours, given the fact we were pretty polite.
Will not be going again and will encourage anybody I know to avoid at all costs. Far better service from other local markets who actually care to be polite people.
I have made a formal complaint with the market regarding this.

This review is not just about Saffron Walden Market. It is about Saffron Walden as a whole.
If you want to want to visit a quintessential English market town, then Saffron Walden is the perfect place for you to visit, with other beautiful towns and villages close by. I have been dozens of times and I am never disappointed.
Tudor Oak timber frame buildings, thatched cottages, parcheting plaster work, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Beautiful gardens and to top all that off, there are regular extended food markets or dancing and music on the market square and the most delicious chocolate shop I have ever visited whose window displays at Halloween, Christmas, Easter etc are simply breathtaking when you consider the are made solely from chocolate.
You may think that I am a local, or have a business there. Not true!! I was born in Bolton Lancashire and live in Old Trafford Manchester. I simply love Saffron Walden 💗

Hunts Fabrics is wonderful.. Thank you!
Also we had such a good lunch as the Tipi Coffee Company. What a wonderful place; lovely staff, a calm and pleasant environment, delicious avocado and fermented cabbage on sourdough, Jasmine tea, a beautiful pumpkin latte and an accessible, impeccably clean loo. Hearty thanks from Karen in Cambridge.
And we loved the antique shop. I love Saffron Walden:)

Taking in this wonderful market on a beautiful Saturday morning in late June.
Delicious local produce purchased and enjoyed at our holiday cottage.
Quite the vib, truly the place to be, lots of temptation and the added bonus of Adnams beer store just around the corner from the market place.
Great shop, delightful experience.

Visited today a Tuesday. Nicely set out market with lots of different stalls. Quite charming. Set in a lovely town square with plenty of cafes and seating around the edge.

One of the main attractions of moving, 16 years ago, to Saffron Walden was the market. It would be very useful if the names of the stalls were listed. Also contact details of the stall holders, obviously that's up to the individual. On occasions I've wanted to know if particular stalls had the items in stock. I know the "watch man" has a Facebook page which has proved to be extremely helpful.

Nice little market with a good range of stalls including food and crafts. I would not necessarliy make a special journey for it but it is a nice add on to the interesting range of independant shops in the area if you are planning to be there on a Tuesday or a Saturday.
