Read all the reviews so thought we would give it a go. Whoever said it was an easy stroll must be an experienced walker, rocky footpaths need your wits about you. Then started to climb, thank god i have been going to the gym as would not of been able to continue. Then you start the climb along a single footpath, very rocky and would suggest only doing it you are a confident person. Could not turn back as was even more frightening with the thought of going back down the really bad path, So continued, some of the paths had given way and it is a shear drop, if you are frightened of heights don’t do it, I am and was more frightened with turning back. could not stay in the caves as did not feel safe and panic was setting in, luckily there were not many other people. Basically, if you don’t like heights don’t do it, if you are not an experienced walker, don’t do it. Wont be doing it again.

Yes, it's a muddy and not a walk in the park but I didn't realise how terrifying it would be.

As recommended we turned right at the start of the loop.

This route is slippery if any moisture on the rocks... certainly wouldn't recommend walking down them.

I didn't think I was too bad with heights....turns out a very narrow path up the side of a cliff face with steep drop wasn't to my taste at all.

Maybe different on a warm, dry Summer's day.

My husband (was his idea) suffers vertigo but felt it was safer to go forward rather than turn back!

With hindsight we shouldn't have gone up but reading about it beforehand didn't warn us.

Looking at my pictures (I pointed and pushed button without looking) the view were just as lovely from the ground as up from the caves.

The bones are probably safe in a museum somewhere that I could go and see so why did I put myself through it? Mad I am, clearly.

My advice? If quiet, weather iffy, no vertigo then go left and come back down left. If busy this is probably not an option as few safe passing places.

If want to do full loop got right to left....the height/path is very deceptive from the bottom.... don't do if you have a fear of heights.

Walking to base of caves and back is okay...muddy in places, underwater in other places...not flat
My rating is based on my experience...those of you without the fear probably think I am exaggerating...those with will know what I am talking about.

Beautiful location, not well signposted in October (maybe better in Summer) so shove in your sat nav and if coming from the West coast it's on a bend where you might miss it ( we did as didn't have sat nav on!)

Tiny car park but larger car park where you can pay to park that's nearer the coffee hut/ static caravan (coffee hut was closed) and can pay to stay the night in your motorhome/camper.

Couple of hours walk doing the full loop and also taking some time to investigate the caves and sit and take in the views. As well as taking lots of photos.
From the car park follow the footpath past a small waterfall which will be on your right.
The riverbed was dry for us in early September and you follow this until on your right you can see a pathway going up the side of the mountain. Cross the riverbed here and follow the path up where you'll come to the 4 caves.
Unfortunately some idiot had decided to use the Badger cave as a toilet!! The others we could look at more and the views across from sitting at the entrance to the caves are tremendous.
There was a small coffee hut at the carpark but no toilets..(still no excuse to use the cave.. what's wrong with some people??)
It's a fantastic walk and highly recommended it. Beautiful scenery the whole way.  Also not too challenging if you have the proper footwear.  We had sun and cloud and a little rain on the way back and it made the rocks very slippery. Midges... they were not too bad when we arrived but as we were heading back and the rain showers started and stopped they became a nightmare.  You couldn't stop for a second without them bombarding your face. If going in midge season take a headnet and always pack a rain jacket just in case.
If following MapsME don't bother walking up to the Rana Hole, its just a hole in ground and nothing else.

Great circular walk!
The loop probably took us about 1.5 hours. You follow the path from the car park and when you get to a bolder marked with 2 arrows one says bone caves to right or another option left. We took the right arrow to go straight up, this option is steep at first then if you continue past the caves you slope back down steadily. If you take the left arrow you do this in reverse basically.
The view from the caves are stunning! Well worth the walk. And its a beautiful walk too along a river and bolder field.

The view from the caves down the valley is epic! You walk alongside a lovely waterfall and even see a natural spring! If you're lucky enough you might see some deers.
After reading reviews online, I expected the walk to the caves to be around 30 minutes but I'd say its more likely 45 minutes depending on your fitness level and if you get good weather. The trail can be muddy under foot and you need to watch your step as it's very uneven.

This is a good four mile round walk which is rugged and steep as you go up to the caves. There are quite steep drops so those with concerns by heights may not enjoy this as much. It is a nice walk through the valley and then up to the caves, it is interesting to consider the history of the caves as you sit in the entrance and look across the incredible scenery below and beyond.

Definitely worth a visit! The route is quite difficult and steep in places but it’s worth it to see the caves and the views from the top

A good 8 km round trip from the car park but beware it is a rugged walk with a very steep & narrow climb once you cross the river bed to make the final ascent to the caves....

It has been said that at the stone take the right hand fork which is the way I returned but in all honesty I found this much easier despite it being more of a sloped path but definitely a much less treacherous route.....

A great experience once at the top but the climb is extremely steep with very little support under foot. NOT for those who find it difficult walking but a great view from at the top. Very very steep incline on way down and severely steep side drops. Beware, the faint hearted

A great walk, easy to follow path. Initially following the stream, past a small waterfall. Path mostly flat but boots or sturdy shoes recommended as lots of rocks. We crossed the dry river and then climbed the bank to the right of the caves. This was steep but manageable and a good path. The caves were excellent and a great view point to see the glen. Lots of red deer and a golden eagle on the way. The path back down is the far side of the caves, it’s a more gentle incline and takes you round a crag and drops you to meet the original path. A great walk.
