good place to visit, with plenty of information within the grounds and the church to help inform visitors, and some interesting grave markers.

Highly recommended church to visit in Rodel. So atmospheric and the carvings were fascinating. Also en route to some dramatic roads with stunning scenery.

This is a well preserved isolated medieval church in a beautiful location next to the sea to the south and the mountains of South Harris to the north. It is well worth a visit especially when the weather is good. We were able to ascend the tower and we were rewarded with a lovely sea view near the top. The church is also surrounded by a graveyard which contains numerous McLeod tombs.

The most isolated church on Harris, you will pass this lovely little church when driving along the golden road, it has some wonderful carvings from 500 years ago and a very old graveyard with some very interesting gravestones. Its definitely worth a stop!

One of the most isolated Historic Scotland sites. You have to be interested in history to appreciate this kind of site but if you are, you will not be disappointed. It is in excellent condition. There are good information boards and inside some of the carvings are in incredible condition. Take the time to walk around the outside and spot the carvings which are mentioned on the boards.

This church which is preserved by Historic Scotland is well worth a visit as the information boards are first class and the carvings are from the late medieval period are amazing.

A great find during our ride around Harris. The sort of the church was well set out and on the way out we spotted two sea eagles!

Very interesting church at the south tip of the island. didn’t take long to visit as it is quite small. Enjoyed the history of it as it is very interesting. Nice photo oppotunities.

Has the church been deconsecrated? If yes, was there a reason why? I visited when I lived on Lewis a while ago and felt a very definite atmosphere. It was a very special place! Lesley

As far as I know the church has not been de-consecrated and has been built and used specifically to the use of the clan MacLeod as a burial site. Members of the clan have been trying to repair it on and off during the centuries and it is now in the hands of Historic Scotland.
It is however thought that it has been built on top of an important Celtic site!
I loved our visit there and certainly felt the atmosphere too!
