The historical Akbar fort, where the museum is housed, was constructed by Mughal emperor Akbar to honour the sufi saint Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chisti. The fort has historical significance, from where the then Mogul Emperor Jahangir allowed British East India Company to trade with India. The Museum exhibits collections of Mughal and Rajput artifacts and sculpture.

It absolutely looked like they have removed half the things from the meseum and only few are left now . Its a pretty place because garden is well maintained and green but i will not recommend anywhere to go and spend here 50 rs. For entry ticket and feel like it's 20% of original meseum that you are seeing.

With the name "palace", we went with high expectations and we were disappointed to say the least. Avoid.

This building is the former palace for Mughal emperors when they stayed in Ajmer. Now it houses the Government museum of Ajmer. As a fort, there’s not much evidence of its former military function left. The former palace rooms are all converted into exhibition space. The walls still retain their bastions and the inner building has some good decorations, but not amazing.

This is one of the attractions that provide the history of the state of Rajasthan and the kings who invaded and ruled the erstwhile princely states which are now part of Rajasthan. Can spend 2 hours and well lit and well exhibited.

I have been born and brought up in Ajmer, yet today was the first time I visited this museum in last 27 years. My parents does not have any interest in history and neither did I when I was a kid. This time when I came to Ajmer I thought I should at least check it out once.

The timing is 9:45 AM to 5:15 PM (I suppose 5:15 is the time for last entry in the museum). Ticket cost is 20 INR for Indian adults and 10 INR for Indian students. It's situated in the heart of Ajmer and can be easily reached through public transport from railway station or bus stand.

This is a fort turned museum. The Akbar fort itself is a very significant fort in history as a lot of important decisions were taken here by the Mughal emperors, the most important one being Shahjahan's first meeting with Thomas Roe from East India Company, granting him rights to setup a factory in Surat. The EIC later expanded throughout the country and paved way for British Raj.

The fort itself is very basic, there is a central diwan-e-khas which is the resting place for the emperor, surrounded by lush green gardens, followed by long galleries which could house the servants and other ministers of the emperor. Since the fort was mainly built as a resting place for Akbar during his voyages to Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti dargah in Ajmer, the fort was very low-key and does not match the grandeur of forts in Delhi and Agra. But you can still appreciate the Mughal architecture here.

As far as the museum is concerned, the stuff here is very basic. If you like visiting museums and have been to at least Jaipur museum, you wouldn't find anything extra here. The museum is mainly confined to the galleries with different sections like Scriptures, Weapons, Attires, Art, etc. I really liked the weapons area very much.

You can easily spend around 1 hour here even if you do not have interest in a lot of history. You will get to learn at least something new.

From the name of the Palace we expected to see more. Having been built in 1590, I thought we would be able to see furnishings and rooms as they were in olden times. You can only see an internal courtyard with a building inside that you can't enter. It is now a government museum with a collection of pottery, religious statues and carvings, miniature paintings and weapons displayed in rooms that open onto the courtyard. They are nicely displayed, but I expected to see a "palace".

This place is at a distance of approx 1-2 km from the Ajmer Sharif Dargah. This place has got nothing to offer in terms of architecture. It’s simply a museum. Visiting this place is a time waste.
