Its actually a Shivan Temple and later Lord murugan became famous.
A small temple located in a remote village from Trichy. Hope they will make this also very famous soon. Temple looked old and craving for renovation.
No proper facilities available. Not much shops available except a few selling pooja items. No proper eatables and lodging facilities available. Recommend to make a halt and go visit in your own vehicle. Try to avoid late evening visits as the surrounding places doesn't seem to have proper lighting facilities. Approx travel time from Trichy Chatram bus stand is 45 mins to 1 hr. Bus facilities are very less. Bus stop maintained in a very poor condition.

This is a famous temple of Lord Muruga, where Arunagirinathar has sung 18 Thirupughazh songs. Lord Muruga blessed Arunagirinathar to sing a thirupugazh daily in this temple. Well maintained temple. It is a small temple. But, it is having Shiva, parvathy as Adhinadhar, Adhinayaki and with their son Muruga. It is a beloved temple for Krupanandha variyar swamigal.
Must visit temple for people visiting Tiruchy. Very close to Trichy.

Lord Muruga blessed the Saint Poet Arunagiri Nathar at Vayalur and with HIS blessings, he composed Thirupugal.
Arunagirināthar wrote 18 verses (910-927) on Vayalur in the famous Thiruppukal.
In every temple Lord Natarajar is in HIS unique dance pose.. Like wise, in this Temple, Lord Natarajar is in Sadura Danda pose.
In front of the temple a beautiful pond called Sakti Theertham is found.
This is believed to have been created by the Sakthivel of Lord Muruga.
At the entrance of the temple pond, you could see Theradiyan sannithi.

Vayalur Kumaran is a powerful deity. The belief is that as you step into the temple your sins are washed away. All you seek is granted by Murugan.

This temple is one of the 6 important temples of Lord Muruga. Though not a big temple, you can have a near darshan of the God. There is a specialty in the Navagraha sannidi here !

Other than the six “Padaiveedu” of Lord Muruga, Vayalur Murugan of Vayalur, a small village near Trichy is of great fame. We reached here just before temple closing in the afternoon. There is a Sakthi theertham, a Shiva sanctum, as well as the Murugan sanctum with both Valli and Devayanai. Though small, the temple is thronged by pilgrims all through the year. The road approach from Virali malai to Vayalur is in a very bad condition needing urgent repair.

This temple is located in the small village of Vayalur. One has to take a detour from the Karur - Trichy highway just before a place called Jiyapuram. The drive after that is absolutely scenic in the middle of paddy fields and banana plantations. Unlike most other temples this opens quite early in the afternoons. It opens by 3.30 itself. It is here that the sage Arunagiri nathar sung his wonderful compositions as an outpour of emotions and bhakthi. This temple also became very famous because of the tireless efforts of Vaariyar Swamigal. One has to go in a Q to have darshan of the small diety in the main sanctum. However there is a small place where one can stand behind the Q and watch the darshan without being too much disturbed. A very big temple and well kept. This temple is said to have been the place where Lord Muruga did Pooja for his parents. Ample parking is available in and around the temple. The temple tank is outside the temple main entrance and is not maintained well. There is also a Nataraja statue where he dances in a different posture.

Vayalur is very close to Trichy. It is a detour from the Trichy Karur highway for about 12 kms. Best to stay somewhere near Chatram bus stand and cover both the places. Hope this helps. Google maps takes your pretty accurately to these places.
