I stayed Pamir Riverside Inn chitral valley. Expect about 11 hrs. On way there are hotels to freshen up. Road is not very good drivers are expert. Kalish valley is another 2 . 30hrs. Only 4x 4 on a bad road Otherwise scenery is exotic. Hotel in abundance with camping facilities.

Chitral valley is now open 24/7 all year around after the Lawari Tunnel and good road network.
The valley has a mesmerising impact and people have retained their original culture and traditions.
The Facilities like hotels and restaurants are coming up fast to fill the caccum.
It's a 8-9 hour journey from Islamabad to Chitral.
It's better to have short stays at timergara or Upper Dir.

I visited chitral city and kalash(boomboraat)and was stunned to see its calm tranquility and beauty.
The roads to kalash are for tractor only as cars and jeeps frequently broke on it.
The beautiful costumes of kalash women and thier dances are awesome.the flora of chitral is breathtaking to see.i didnt like the local cuisine, thanks God that other kpk cuisine were available.
The chugha(emboreidery jackets)can be bought in chitral city for 10000rupees.
The people of chitral are humble and loving.the kalash drink a whisky made from mulberry fruit.
Chitral is a place to go again and again.

Chitral is a relatively broad valley...... It is a very popular destination but only during the Shandor festival. In other seasons, especially in the winter, there are very few visitors.
We visited Chitral in February, with a large family group including kids in early teens and ladies. We visited the popular Kalash valleys and we attempted to reach a very remote Madaklasht valley, which we could not achieve because of the risky road.
Chitral has nice traditions, beautiful and tasty, and very special foods, not affected by the internationalization and nationalization of the other tourist areas. We were able to taste foods that we had never tasted although we live only a few hundred kilometres away.
The city itself is just like any other relatively biggish remote city.... clean and convenient to walk around. However, it is the periphery and the culture in the periphery that is attractive.
We recommend this as a beautiful destination, for all ages, and in every season, not restricted to the festivals only.

Chitral Valley in Pakistan has a lot to offer and the place to stay is undoubtedly Gahirat Castle Hotel 1912.
Chitral is dramatic in so many aspects, the naked mountains, the lush valley, the river running through this all. However, not only it’s nature is dramatic, Chitral is prominent in the Raj period of ‘the Great Game’ , and so much can still be seen. The famous siege of the Chitral Fort in 1895 can easily be visualised. A trip back in time therefore is a must do for those keen to know more about this time. In our 5 day trip we visited the National Park, where the keeper showed us some Markhoors. On the way down from the mountain we popped in at the Summer Palace (can the Agha Khan Foundation please see what can be done to restore this once beautiful place???) and all the way down we visited the Fort. The Fort is built strategically on the bend of the river. Many parts of the 1895 structure are still there. Furthermore we visited the Kalash valley of Bhumburet. Delightful friendly people who may well be extinct by the end of this century. Highlight of the trip was the visit to the Markhoor reserve owned by our host. The dramatic drive and hike leads to a beautiful area where we were able to see markhoors with the naked eye!
Our host, and great grand son of Shuja Ul Mulk, is also the owner of Gahirat Castle Hotel 1912. The main building took 3 years to build and part of it is now the entrance. The historic reception hosts a nice library with interesting books, photographs etc transporting you easily back in time. Our charming host exceeded in his hospitality in so many ways and made our stay even more perfect. The rooms are clean and spacious, with steaming hot showers, food was delicious, the gardens beautiful. In between the various trips it was very relaxing to stay put and listen to the gushing sound of the river.
I suggest for all nature and history lovers to visit Chitral and to stay at the Gahirat Castle Hotel 1912. The hotel is open from March to October but outside these months exceptions can be made.
