We first tried to go on a Sunday, but the lines and parking were ridiculous, so, we returned on a Wednesday and had a great visit. There’s a small fee to park (3 lei) and in the parking lot there are a few tourist stands (2 with salt and few mixed tourist things). The mine is basically in the city right across from a restaurant.
After you pay the entrance fee you wait to board a shuttle bus. The ride is about 4 minutes above ground and 10 minutes descending a bumpy, hairpin turn salt road down into the mine. My son gets carsick but did okay just wearing sea bands.
The mine itself has enormous vaulted ceilings and an collection of kids activities (mini-golf, bouncy houses, bikes, pool, ping-pong, planetarium). There’s lots of tables if you want to picnic. The platform that surrounds the top edge is not for visiting.
Compared to the Turda Salt Mine, this one is much bigger and the entrance is more adventurous. The Turda mine has a bigger salt water lake and allows you to walk the platform on the top edge of the mine (which is honestly a little scary).
There are lots of signs saying to wear a mask and although mask wearing seemed to be enforced in the shuttle bus it wasn’t really in the mine itself.

Hermoso lugar.

The salt mine Slanic is the largest in Europe and the place with the purest air on the planet.
The 14 rooms of the saline have an opening of 10 meters to the ceiling, 32 meters to the sole, and the height is 54 meters. The saline depth is 208 meters. The saline walk takes about 2 hours, during which time you can enjoy the benefits of the saline environment.
Also in the saline are playgrounds with slides, swings, sports fields, volleyball, handball, tennis, carting and minifootball, a room with billiard tables and a buffet. Often, the Unirea mine organizes various sports competitions, contests, exhibitions and concerts.

We did park the car on the paid parking lot (gps 45.234739, 25.940385) and walked to the ticket office. We needed to wait 15 minutes before the shuttle bus did leave to the entrance of the tunnels 1km south (gps 45.226548, 25.937597). A long ride though the tunnels did follow till we reach the center at 10:30 AM.
The multiple halls where impressive large. There were some mining equipment exposed, a small bridge with colorful lighted dripping stones, some limited shops, toilets, statues, wall paintings and kids entertainment at the end. It was 12.8C degrees inside, just like outside at this time.
Especially the size does make a visit recommended.
We were back at the shuttles at 11:10.

hi,

Hi There,
Is there a website for the mine that has the hours and admission fees listed? I've had a difficult time trying to find it via google. Everything I see i from tour operators and blogs.
Thanks!

My wife and I visited the salt mine when she was 6 month pregnant, no problems at all. But then again, back then the elevator was in service, not the stupid minibuses that defeat the purpose of the salt mine by their diesel emissions...
