There are several scattered abandoned temples on the Hemakuta hills, very near to the Virupaksha temple. One can easily go either through the Virupaksha temple right side or can enter through the kadalekalu Ganesha temple

Very nice and must visit place. One of the key monuments in Hampi. A must see place. Go with a guide to understand the past glory of Vijayanagara empire

Just behind the Virupaksha Temple, this hill is just a few easy steps up, and leads to a big area of many ruined temples. It is easy to slowly wander around, explore and enjoy, with beautiful views. Nice for sunrise and sunset too.

A gentle climb leads to an absolute treat.

Amongst the impossibly perched boulders, is a sunset view that soothes the soul. Gentle hymns from the Virupaksha temple below waft over the hills & while you wait for the sun to drown in the horizon, there is just a sense of stillness, peace & fulfilment...!

The Hemakuta hill houses the most well-preserved pre-Vijayanagara and early-Vijayanagara temples of Hampi. It is here that Pampa (Parvati) pleased Shiva with her dedication and got him to marry her. Nearby is the Virupaksha temple and the Manmatha tank. Manmatha is another name of the God of love, Kama. Shiva burnt Kama to ashes here when he tried to make Shiva fall in love with Pampa, thus breaking his meditation.
Today, it's ghostly appearance fail to conjure images of romance and a heavenly wedding.
I started climbing up the hill at around 3.30 in the afternoon. Looking at the hill from down below, I thought it would be a cakewalk. The heat of the sun multiplied a thousand times hitting the hard
granite boulders. This was one of the most tiring climbs I have done in my life.

We climbed up the hill to see the sunset. It was a beautiful sight. The hills have lots of abandoned temples, beautiful carved.

遺跡や寺院を見学しながら歩ける丘。道というよりは岩肌を歩くので歩きやすい靴で行きましょう。日中はかなり暑いのでドリンクも忘れずに持参しましょう。夕日を見に行く人が多いようです。

Wonderful view at the top of the hill. Hemakuta hill is adjacent to Virupaksha temple. Trek to the top is very easy compared to Matanga hill or Anjanadri hill. The hillock has many Jain temples also a beautiful sunset point. At the other end of the hill, you can find Sasivekalu Ganesha idol and continue further to Sri Krishna temple.

Awesome place has small small monuments around hill. Unique was Stone build 2 storied building. 2 Entrance either from Virupaksha temple which is bit climbing or Sasivekalu Ganesha side which is bit easy.

One can easily spent 1 hour on this just by watching surrounding and Tungbhadra River
