Lord Sri Ram is worshipped as Raja Ram.
The beautiful "vigrah" of Prabhu Ram and Maa Janki will forever be engraved in your heart. Lord resides in a palace. The temple timings are unlike any other Hindu temple.
Beautiful courtyard and wonderful 45 minutes Aarti is a delight for the eyes and heart.
Must visit.

We visited this temple known to have an interesting history. The erstwhile king of Orchha state was a devotee of Lord Krishna and he used to have an illusion or dream that he has been dancing with lord Krishna. However, his queen worshipped Lord Ram only. The king got annoyed and challenged the queen that if she had so much belief why she was unable to get Him close to her, the way Lord Krishna is close to him. The queen accepted the challenge and marched towards Ayodhya to bring Lord Ram to Orchha. There she starved and worshipped the God. Finally, He appeared and agreed to accompany her on the condition that He would accompany her in the form of a small child in her lap and would be treated like a King of Orchha as he has been the king of Ayodhya but wherever she keeps him down, that would be His abode. The queen agreed and sent a message back home. Later Lord Krishna came in King's dream and told him that be it Rama or Krishna, we are incarnation of Lord Vishnu. So the king repented and wished to receive her with great welcome and after getting queen's message king started constructing a big temple. When queen reached Orchha and as the temple building was not ready, she took the child Rama to her own palace and so that palace had become Raja Ram temple and is worshipped as the king of Orchha. Every morning and evening, Guard of Honor is given to the king by the local police. That is considered a great ceremony and lots of people visit the temple at that time in honor of their king and during Ram Navami, Dussehra and other festivals lakhs of people visit the temple.
Of course, the building earmarked for the temple is behind the palace and is now known as the Charurbhuj temple with deity of Lord Vishnu. The present palace cum temple has a big courtyard, where people assemble for pooja in the morning and evening. We witnessed the pooja being performed with much fanfare and amidst the chanting of mantras by the local priests but the management of crowd is poor. Outside there are many shops selling sweets and not so well maintained eating places. The approach to the temple is also dirty. One should visit the temple for the history and religious beliefs. There is no entry fee except the donation by the people during pooja.

A holy place to be visited. Lord Ram is worshipped as King Ram. Seeing the salute offered by MP Armed police during aarti is a thrilling scene. After taking a ticket of Rs. 150/- you can avail the facility of darshan inside the barricades. Mandir management offers Prasad of King Ram after getting a coupon of Rs. 25, 50 and 120 whichever you like.

It is the only temple where the police salute in the morning and evening. Here Lord Rama is worshiped as a king, devotees come from far and wide to see the respect of Lord Rama as a king. Here Madhya Pradesh Police personnel salute with guns at sunrise and sunset. The practice of saluting has been going on for years.

Ticket - Free for all

Camera - No photography allowed inside Temple

Parking - Well in normal days , you can easily park near road, but I suggest that must park the vehicle near by allotted proper parking area & then 2-4 min walking distance.

Must Know - shoes not allowed inside temple , keep in shoe racks or keep in your vehicle.

Must Know- The proper Prasad Counters available inside the main temple of building where you can easily purchase the Prasad . so many other sweets / prasad counter are situating outside the temple also .

Must know also -Aarti is Aarti is performed daily both in the morning and in the evening. At the time of aarti the pilgrim's numbers are so high, but after Aarti you can easily visit the Temple with Lord idols.

Surrounding area of temple you can easily get shops for fast-food , water bottles etc.

Make sure - You just hold you belongings, bags , purse etc. properly , In the too much crowded situation you will be suffer in unwanted situations.

Ram Raja temple gets very crowded during Ram Naumi celebration, which is the busiest time of the year in Orchha. Once, few tourists literally went back from the highway because there were no rooms to even put their feet on the ground

Orchha is a beautiful town set up on banks of chambal. The serene river flowing throught hte hard rocks and the Temples and Chhattris make it so magniicent. The Rajaram Temple is full of roses. The diety is offered rose garlands and there is hardly any place where you will find so may roses.

a must visit palce for any traveller.

Nice place to visit. Can be noisy due to the loudspeakers. The only temple in which Lord Ram is in King's form. Has nice history.

Shri Ram here as the tale goes is not a sculpted structure but the actual God in child form who turned into stone when the Queen bringing him in her lap from Ayodhya ( by foot all the way) forgot that she was told by God - when he rescued her from Saryu river- that he will establish himself just where she puts him down from her lap.So when she reached the palace at Orchha, she placed the baby Ram in the Palace Kitchen and when it was tried that he be shifted to the grand newly constructed temple no one could do it as Shri Ram had turned into stone and established himself in the palace kitchen itself. So the 'Bhavya' temple lies without a deity whereas the Bhagwan is worshiped in the palace premises.
Me and my Wife had with 'SriRam Kripa' the privilege to hold the Arti Thal and do the Arti in the temple sanctum ! The pathway leading to the temple have a lot of shops both ways which sell flowers, Incense sticks and Prasad . The Kalakand is worthy of mention here as in Orchha temple area, it is really tasty & a famed milk preparation.Photography is not allowed in this temple.Temple timings are 7 am to 1 pm and 7 pm to 9.30pm.The temples are a rich heritage of the Bundela kings who ruled in the 15th & 16th century.

The story behind this temple is so beautiful. The way the town dwellers respect Ram Raja Sarkar is also quite endearing. The temple is in a palace as per the folklore
