Arjumand Bānū Bēgum, also known as Mumtāz Maḥal, which in Persian means "the light of the palace", died in 1631 giving birth to the emperor's fourteenth child. Beautiful temple..one of the wonders of the world, a UNESCO heritage site..the ticket is not bought at the entrance but in the village and from when you enter you have 3 hours to visit then you have to go out but it is very well done even in less time

built in the early 16th century and abandoned in the late of 18th century; at least it has been used more than 250 years, in comparison with Fatehpur Sikri, which was abanded after ten years more or less; those guys afforded so huge spending
a lot of nice murals, many not in good conditions; mythological stories, Vishnu is represented as Rama, one of his avatar; even now, despite of careless, the murals are nice and give a good idea of how the walls were decorated
the locals are very nice people, so friendly

This is one of three separate palaces, or "mahals," in this complex: the Raj Mahal, Jehangir Mahal, and Rai Parveen Mahal. What makes this stand out is the paintings being restored. There is a great view of the city from the tops of the walls. Worth the look.

The Raja mahal is a part of the Orchha fort complex and while it's not very well maintained, it is just a few hundred years old and thus you can learn a lot about the daily lives of people a few centuries ago. The decor in the rooms are amazing and have a lot of story behind them.

Raja Mahal is third in row if one starts from Jahangir Mahal, goes across Sheesh Mahal ( which has now been turned into a MPT hotel ) and proceeds further in the Orchha Fort Complex. One single ticket of Rs.10/- allows entry to the Fort complex. The Mahal was built in 1538 A.D.The Raja Mahal has several big courtyards and is therefore very Airy and open sort. The palace walls are 5 feet wide alike a fortress!.The Raja Mahal is well illuminated in the evening and the lighted structure gives a feel of the magnificence which it embodied once. The Raja Mahal is famous for the Fresco paintings visible on it's ceilings and walls. These impart a distinct character & beauty to the palace. Most of the paintings are faded now but the charm has sustained.

I was impressed by the beauty of this palace, after visiting jahangir palace. This mahal(palace) is smaller but more simple more airy and more beautiful. It is the fresco paintings on the wall and ceilings made from the vegetable dyes which make this palace so beautiful.
Some of the paintings have been spoiled, destroyed with time, but a lot of them are still fresh, and look lovely.
In the evening, raja mahal is lighted up with the light and sound show, and looks magnificent.
I have been to Rajasthan, and the palaces there are grand, and well preserved but somehow I found palaces, temples and the whole little town of Orchha to be more charming, more inviting.
I hope MP government takes some steps to preserve this treasure, before irrepairable damage is done to them.

Raja Mahal is situated inside Orchha fort complex (Orchha fort complex has Jehangir mahal and sheesh Mahal too , sheesh Mahal is now turned into a hotel and restaurant). Entry ticket is Rs 12 per person for Orchha fort complex. The ticket we get for Rs 12 at Orchha fort complex is valid for Raja mahal, Jehangir mahal, royal chatrris and laxmi temple.so keep the ticket safely after visiting each monument.

Orchha fort complex which has raja mahal is about 5 minutes walk from Ram raja temple.

I will suggest to hire a guide for Orchha fort complex. The guide rates are fixed and displayed at the ticket counter . Also there is an audio guide system available for Orchha fort complex. There is light and sound show in English and Hindi daily. I went for light and sound show in English which starts at 7:30 pm. The duration of the light and sound show is one hour and costs Rs 200 per Person. Light and sound show was good in English and I will suggest all having interest in history to go for light and sound show at Orchha fort complex

This mahal has some beautiful paintings which should not be missed. Try to reach Orcha fort complex early say at 9 Am as it gets very hot as time progresses . Don't forget to take sufficient drinking water when you visit Orchha fort complex.

Orchha fort complex is a must visit place in Orchha.

The Raja Mahal is one of the main palaces inside the Orchha Fort complex and in terms of enjoyment, is probably second to Jahangir Mahal. The Raja Mahal was the royal residence of the Bundela Rajputs, kings of Orchha and the royal family. It’s pretty obvious from the exterior architecture that this was a place of importance. The interior was obviously once lavishly decorated, but much of the frescos have faded badly, although there are still some large pieces that make the visit worthwhile. Definitely visit this palace when visiting the Orchha fort complex.

I found this place more beautiful and fascinating then Jehangir Mahal. It was the palace of the King and Queens. The paintings in the rooms are awesome. They have a story line in them, and to understand the story, you need a guide. The ceilings are beautifully painted look just like carpets laid. One of the painting has 9 avtaars of Lord Vishnu. The bath pools, bedrooms can be well understood if seen carefully. Overall a fantastic palace, i would rate it better than Jehangir Palace.
