Excellent museum, very well organised and full of interesting items. We had the full 1.5-hour presentation which was absolutely excellent, and given in flawless English. I don't normally like conducted tours, particularly when I know something of the subject already. I generally prefer to spend my time on looking at the objects of most interest to me at my own pace, but Kobarid's presentation is so very good I would not have missed it, nor would I have missed the opportunity to draw on the guide's thorough knowledge of his subject.
Favourite exhibit? The magnificent model of the mountains over which so much blood was spilt, brilliantly explained by projected information supplemented by the guide's laser pointer. Technology that actually works. Photographs, themselves of very high quality, show the individual mountains and military positions, integrated carefully with contemporary photographs that have benefited from digital scanning and printing.
The museum thoroughly deserves its European Small Museum award.
Allow yourself plenty of time, and don't miss that splendid conducted tour!

Along the central street of the village, among the houses and shop windows of the few shops you will also find the palace of the historical war museum. It's worth a visit, you'll find memorabilia, weapons and much more... belonged to those who made the war, to get in you pay.... but it's worth it.

Exceedingly well done WWI war museum. The staff made every effort to accommodate the multiple languages of the guests. The 20 minute (English option) video is rather dry military history but immediately oriented us to the exhibit. Considering how almost a million soldiers lost their lives here in this little valley, it is a sobering museum for sure. The room which included photos from "daily living" was in some ways most touching. They also chronicled the women who climbed the Alps to service the soldiers high above, quite inspiring. The many weapons of war might be more interesting to a true history buff. The many photos were easy to identify local landmarks which made it all quite real.

Friday 10 May 2024 we were in Caporetto and, after the historical-naturalistic walk we went to visit the museum and it was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves history. Thank you

..... to come to this Location across the border 🇸🇮 with a high historical - cultural flavor for Us 🇮🇪!
I will not dwell on describing 📃 the MUSEUM because it has already been written about extensively ✍️ by the many who preceded me on this Platform and therefore it would be …….. redundant: I will only post a few PHOTOS as a sign 📸 of my passage HERE and nothing else because many times - in these situations - "silence" and "inner reflection" are decidedly predominant!
Summary: a small and interesting Museum Structure 🏠 well maintained and cared for that is worth seeing 👁️👁️👁️👁️👁️, even taking on a long car journey 🚙 !!

My husband and I visited this museum as we were in Caporetto/Kobarid.
Entrance to the museum is €7, which I admit is not cheap.
The person who welcomed us first showed us a video of about 20 minutes in a room adjacent to the entrance. He asked us our language and when we left there was another small group of people waiting to enter.
The museum was on three floors, with several rooms with war artefacts, weapons, personal objects, uniforms, models of the valley and access points of the different battalions.
We didn't stay inside the facility for more than an hour.
Small book shop always at the entrance.
Clarification: photos inside the museum are prohibited as it is a private museum.

My husband and I visited the Kobarid Museum on our trip to Slovenia in March 2023. We are both serving members of the Canadian army and have a personal and professional interest in military museums. We have visited several but the Kobarid Museum greatly exceeded our expectations. The main exhibit during our visit focused on the frontlines of Italy and Austria-Hungary during the First World War but had exhibits touching on history from the Roman Empire up to the contemporary period. The price of admission is more than reasonable for the amount of detail in the exhibits. We were blown away when one of the managers told us that this museum is a private initiative that receives little to no government subsidies. The level of detail was exceptional, many exhibits were very moving emotionally, and you can tell that there is a lot of passion put into maintaining this museum. Additionally, we hiked up to Fort Hermann in Bovec the day before and one of the exhibits included a 3D rendering of the frontlines of the First World War – we were able to see where Fort Hermann was and how it was just a small piece of a larger puzzle! Our only regret was not having budgeted more time in our schedule to see all of the exhibits in more detail. One hour was far from enough time. We highly recommend anyone passing through to take the time to visit and spend at least a half day.

Kobarid Museum—This little museum is FULL of info, photos and artifacts! The number of good quality photographs from WWI really surprised us. It sounds like some can do this in an hr, but if you want to read most of the text and watch the film, you will need more like 2 hrs. Don’t freak out when you see all the text to read; you only need to read the quarter of it that is in your language. The time we spent was a pleasant experience until a tour group showed up, but that just meant dodging them in order to be able to inspect the exhibits.

Very complete, documented and spacious museum on the First World War as experienced in the region.
The introductory film is in French. There are no explanations on the walls.

We were interested in the museum and thus in some insights into the course of the "Battle of the Isonzo". We therefore arranged a 1.5 hour guided tour by phone in advance, which was no problem for the museum. Well, how was it? It exceeded our expectations. The user guide and the methodical preparation in the museum absolutely convinced us. We learned a lot. In our opinion, the visit is worth it. A MUST for everyone if you are already in the region. We say THANK YOU.
