Pretty cool to see if you are in the area. We saw many of the historic buildings; can only view from the outside, and took a short trail that lead thru other areas of this once booming town. Lot of other signs explaining aspects of this town and its mining. Glad we got to see it.

I absolutely love Rush Historic District. This was our second visit. It is the old zinc mining region of the Ozark Mountains located within Buffalo National River, the district includes ruins dating from 1880 to 1940. We drove through this in our convertible and found it to be very relaxing and peaceful. It has strong tall bluffs, beautiful streams and lush greenery. There are a large number of different types of trees. You can call me crazy if you want, but if you listen closely you can hear the hustle and bustle of the old mining community. There are just enough structures and partial structures for a history lovers mind to run! It is a must see.

It was a hidden gem that’s for sure! If we get the chance we would love to go back and explore more! We only did the smaller path, but would love to do the two mile hike to see some of the actual mines!

Our family made a 20-minute detour from our vacation route to visit Rush. It was a low-key, interesting diversion. Hard to believe Rush used to be a town of 5,000. Several buildings remain; they can be easily seen, but are not accessible. There are a few other spots you can see up close. It’s a quiet and pretty area. If you travel a great distance just for Rush, you may be disappointed… unless you go for a hike or check out the river. For a little stop along our way, Rush was great.

You drive 5 miles to get there on a narrow, part gravel road to see 5 falling down building. The picture above pretty much summed up what you will see.

If you like history, this is a very cool spot to walk around. You can't get into the structures for safety reasons, but you can see how it was and there are lots of signs showing photos with some history of what happened and where. Cool place to spend an hour (or more if you want a bit of a hike).

This isn't for everyone but I love stuff like this. There are 5 full structures remaining and then some parts of the mills on the walking tour about a quarter mile further down the road. Some good informational signs on the tour. Hard to imagine it was once such a large city,

We drove to this area (which is within the Buffalo National River area of the NPS), but spent plenty of time hiking/walking. So interesting. Several adjacent mining communities, defined by who owned the mine, were in this area, but the Morning Star mine community is the "featured" section. There is an easy loop trail with informational plaques both about the buildings & the way of life at the time the mine was active. From this loop, there is a spur trail (with an initial steep incline) that passes near some of the mines. The mines themselves are fenced off, so you can't actually go in. We were fascinated to learn what life must've been like when the mines were active. Very interesting. There are both a tent-camping area where the Rush Creek meets the Buffalo River, & canoe put-in/take-out area on the Buffalo itself. We enjoyed walking the trails, seeing the wildlife, & learning SO much about the area. Highly recommend for a half-day adventure.

Its a pretty neat place to visit if you are up in the area. Not worth driving just to see it though.

This is about 3 or 4 miles from Buffalo Point. The road is pretty good until just before you come to the old buildings. Then it's gravel.
There's 3 old falling down buildings with information boards telling you about the town & the mine. Drive a little further & there's a .25 mile trail - Morning Star Interpretive Loop that takes you up & around some of the old sites of the town. There's a longer trail that takes you up to the mine, 1.5 miles one way.
If you follow the gravel road further, it takes you to the Buffalo River & more trail heads.
This was good for about an hour or so. Interesting if you like history. It's amazing how nature takes back the land. Pictures of the town are pretty much all that's left.

Is this site an Arkansas state property? Can it be purchased? Just curious. I would be interested to know more about this site. It is awesome history and I also think Arkansas is awesome!!!!!
