A lovely place for a walk with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and sea. Storrington Rise car park is a great place to start your walk - its free to park - and only a short-ish uphill walk to Cissbury Ring - which is free to enter. Once you're up there, it's an unexpectedly long walk around the ring, but fabulous nevertheless. A great afternoon out and I didn't spend a bean!

Lovely walk around Cissbury Ring far from the madding crowd.
Wild horses are indeed there, not vicious just wild!
Unfortunately because they get fed by some of the public they think everyone has food for them!
N. Trust were there today trying to educate the public.
Obviously anyone or animal walking behind a horse of wild or not is asking for trouble!
All the rings are a great place to walk.
👍

Great views but do not recommend going near the ponies. One kicked my dog and a walker who I saw limping back to the car park. Would not recommend for children. Also heard that the police were in the car park checking where people had travelled from. Although parking is free it's very difficult to find a space. In my opinion Chanctonbury Ring has better views and more parking and no vicious ponies.

We ascended gradually from Findon Valley and found the climb fairly gentle. The hill fort double ramparts have a huge circumference as the central area is really quite big. The entrance ‘gates’ look a little similar so take care which path you take as we took the wrong path down and only realised our mistake after 10 minutes walking in the wrong direction. If you walk a little way around the embankments you will soon realise quite how incredible its construction was all those years ago. Must have taken an enormous workforce. The views are great and cover a good range of vistas even though this hill isn’t one of the highest in the South Downs National Park.

There is a small car park available which was full even on a week day in September.
Quite a climb to the top, and pretty windy when we visited, but the stunning views to the coast and across miles of the surrounding countryside made it extremely worthwhile.

Quite a steep climb but well worth it with the views from the top. So lovely seeing the wild ponies at the top too. A really enjoyable afternoon.

If you're not walking the whole South Downs you can drive to Cissbury and there's a car park just off the A24 although it takes a bit of finding. The walk up to Cissbury is quite steep but not particularly hard going. The walk around Cissbury ring is wonderful - on a clear day you can see for miles. If you're lucky you might also come across New Forest ponies grazing. A really lovely few hours.

There is a free car park but after the sign on the A24 there are no more - had to stop and ask the way.
A delightful walk with stunning views at the top and of course the lovely ponies. Really a must do for walkers

Hi, where do you park please, is it free (probably highly unlikely) and if you have to pay can it be by card? Thanks.

Is camping allowed in Cissbury Ring? Overnight camping? Just want to make sure, don't want to get in trouble with all this Covid problem we've been having.

I don't think camping on the mound is ever allowed but not 100% sure, it was winter time when we went & no sign of any campers. Previous answers about camping from 11 months ago says there are camp sites near by but I don't think they will be open at the moment. Not sure when you were hoping to go but as I understand it people are not allowed to say away from home at the moment

Yes there are. Google "campsites near Cissbury ring" and it will show you a list with a map. The nearest village is Findon, if that helps. :-)

Are the ponies around all year? What is the best spot to see them?
Julie D
Findon, UK93 bidrag
Ponies have more recently been replaced by a new and smaller group. They are there all year round. They generally stick together in the group and in the more rainy, windy weather you will find them in the dips using the undulations and shrubby hedgerow as shelter.

Hi,
What can I expect to be able to forage on my walk around Cissbury Ring

Probably very little now as the sloes and wild damsons were picked out a month ago and the blackberries are mostly gone.
