Lovely area

The Bird Rock Trail is in a 99 acres Nature Reserve under the care of the Turks & Caicos National Trust. It is the last and only such Nature Reserve on the island of Providenciales. It is rich in flora and fauna, well worth exploring.
Unfortunately, the current government which does not show much interest in the environment nor nature in general (other than calling these islands ''Beautiful by nature'' for the sake of tourism but for how long...?) has decided to strip the Turks & Caicos National Trust of this beautiful spot for the sake of development. Ultimately greed will have the better over nature conservation and this does not augur well for the future of these islands.
Therefore I would encourage visitors to walk the beautiful Bird Rock trail before it disappears under concrete for ever. It will be a big loss for nature lovers not to say a disaster.

Tough, but worth the effort
mai 2021
This is a tough spot. The walking path is rocky. It's a long while, maybe 15-20 mins in the hot sun before you reach the mangroves. Which is when things start to remotely get interesting. From there you have to walk another 15 mins to get closer to the shore and the beautiful sites (cliffs/shore/water). In the end it's wonderful. Lots of bird watching and unique things to see. But we had small children with us and we struggled to even get out there. Take tons of water, go on a cloudy day maybe. And know the trek out is long but WORTH IT.

Lightly used but worthwhile hike
feb. 2020
There is not much to do on Providentialis, Caicos, including very few hiking trails. Some reviews and sites said the trail is overgrown and only intrepid hikers should use it but I found just the opposite. The trail is easy to follow and mostly flat with few obstacles. Super easy and it ends by the southern coast. Very pretty and isolated and a great swim spot if the ocean is quiet. After you cross the marsh on the rock causeway just walk about 5 more minutes and you will be at the end.

Just Okay

We decided to give this trail a try, since we are avid hikers and wanted to do something more active on vacation. The trail head is a bit hard to find as others have noted. Head down Leeward Highway towards the marina and make a right on Technology Drive, which loops back around onto Leeward Highway although Google Maps and Waze showed a dead end street. Half way down the loop you’ll see the trail head with parking for 3-4 cars. Approximate coordinates of the trail head are (21.8106447, -72.1392376).

The hike itself is less than a mile in and out. I would recommend hiking in early morning, bringing water and applying bug repellent liberally. The front of the trailhead had a chain across, which we bypassed onto the trail. The trail starts off wide with rocks lining either side of the trail and quickly narrows. The vegetation on the trail does get more dense about 1/4 of a mile in and a good walking stick is recommended to knock down any spider webs in your path. The trail was easy to follow all the way through even though there were no markers as you can tell where foot traffic has been on the trail. About half way through you come to a marsh/pond area where you can see some smaller fish. There are some rocks positioned to allow the area to be crossed and the pond is shallow, so if you do end up falling in you’ll end up with wet feet. Our 8 and 11 year old made it across without a problem. We did see a flamingo and a blue herring right around the corner from the pond in the distance. The trail opens up to a rocky outlook where you can see Bird Rock Point. As others have noted, while beautiful, it wasn’t the most impressive of views.

Overall I would recommend this trail only to those looking for a hiking experience on the island. Otherwise the bugs, dense vegetation and views at the end just are not worth it for others.

Beautiful view

This was an easy hike for adults, but I would not recommend for small children as it is not well maintained, at this time. The view is beautiful, though.

trail is closed
feb. 2018 • Par
As of 2/3/18 the trail has a chain across it at the trailhead with a closed sign on the chain. The sign marking the trail is broken. We walked down it a bit and it is becoming overgrown by vegetation. Seems likely that those who were maintaining it have had other things to do since the hurricanes...

The trail has suffered from the hurricane and is still in need of much cleaning, trimming and over-all upkeep. There is a sign that says 'closed' and we do not encourage people to come in, lest walk the path. The National Trust is in need of financial support to fix the trail, as well as our other heritage sites (e.g Cheshire Hall Plantation) that were affected by the hurricanes.

Tiring but worth it

First off, this trail is pretty hard to find. Go towards the Conch Farm, turn on Technology Drive, and then make the first left onto Leeside. You will see a white sign saying welcome and the trail is to the left of this sign. We parked at the turn and then off we went! We went during midday, but I would suggest going in the morning because it does get very hot. The trail is quite narrow but easy to follow. We only saw a few birds while we were hiking. Be sure to be careful while crossing the pond! The rocks are just a little shaky but for the most part quite stable. And don't worry if you fall off or lose your step because the pond is only a few inches deep and the water is very clear. The view at the end is super nice and serves as a good rest break before you have to hike back. We took a lot of photos here and the breeze was a treat. If you want to, it's a short climb down to play in the water. As the other reviews suggested, bring sunscreen, water, good shoes, and insect/mosquito repellent.

Should be mosquito rock trail
mai 2017 • Familie
I was excited to walk this trail but honestly there were no birds and the views are okay (the views are unbelievable across this island so this wasn't anything unique). Its a tough walk for kids and the swarms of mosquitos made it unbearable. We put on bug spray at least 2 or 3 times on the walk but it didn't deter these blood hungry beasts.

Really good walk
apr. 2017 • Par
We came across this National Trust walk by accident whilst looking for the Conch Farm. It is very easy to do one after the other.
It is about a 30 minute walk on a very well kept trail. It is very easy to walk on (all except one part where you have to cross stones on the river). Beautiful views at the end. We went on a cloudy day so not too many birds for us to view - but it was great to do some exercise rather than just sitting on the beach!
