Fairly long hike from the park station, but worth it! Continue up the small valley with 3-4 smaller waterfalls.

Truly a lovely place. Giving a negative with the hope that fewer folks will visit and the beautiful area will stay pristine.

My wife and I are on opposite sides of 70! We love this hike from the windy Waddell Creek beach free parking ....with a ringside seat for top class wind surfing afternoons.
The hike is a gentle uphill. They try to shunt hikers off to the left on a cutoff trail to give a wide berth to the agricultiual operations in the meadowlands adjacent to the creek. We once found the cutoff trail poorly maintained (blocked by windfall) after a storm and got an epic case of poison oak. We don’t go that way anymore!
If you don’t take that cutoff and continue straight ahead on the main dirt road it is almost all gentle uphill, and mostly shaded after the first 3/4 mi from the beach. Much of the way the creek is gurgling nearby toward the sea. Songbirds active, as well as jays and crows.
July weekday - a few scattered couples, maybe three courteous mountain bike twosomes, and three jolly groups of well-supervised teen-aged backpackers doing that section of the Skyline to Sea trail.
It turned out to be a hot day with no fog at the beach when we started 9:20 a.m. A gentle breeze accompanied on a steady 160 minutes to the falls, arriving at the stroke of noon. The sun was sparkling on the top two thirds of the falls and soon illuminated it all. Perfect picnic bench seating and a half hour of privacy before a chatty group of tourists took over.
Almost exactly as fast...or slow ...returning to the car. Afternoon was warmer but the enhanced breeze off the sea kept it perfectly balanced for t shirt only. No snakes, the trail well-maintained all the way and only a handful of readily-navigated muddy spots.
We have an abundance of good hiking in Santa Cruz County, so we haven’t done this one annually but I think we will from now on. We drove there, but I think Waddell is still accessible by very intermittent bus service from Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay.

This is probably our favorite hike in the entire bay area. I have done it over the last 35 years multiple times, and am still amazed by it. As noted by everyone, start early in the day. Best after a big rain. Trail is hard, muddy, elevation, but worth it. Roughly 5 hours round trip, for average shape adult. I actually like the small falls, before berry creek just as much, where you climb down right next to the falls. Counter clockwise loop is better.

Done this hike in the summer fall and winter, with and without children. In summer bring plenty of water. If you do the whole circle loop you will be in different Eco zones from deep redwood forest to south facing slopes with lots of sun. In winter after a rain it is damp falls are running their best. Trail can be slippery in parts..

Myself and Wife and our son 10year old siddharth hiked this part on july 29th 2018
We took the opposite route starting with Park HQ--> sunset Trail to Berry creek--> Skyline to see. I suggest this route. as you cross most of less majestic sections and enter in to green Medows for last part of the trek
There was Bee alerts near berry creek falls, we met few people who did get stung from bees, but we were fortunate. just walked calmly without making much noise and they didn't care about us
Carry lot of water and some snack to nimble, we started at 10:00am in morning and reached back to Park HQ around 4:30, with lot of breaks

Good hike, but can be tough for some. Make sure to leave yourself plenty of time if you do the long hike...remember it gets dark in the woods faster than in the open city! Be sure to take lots of water and stay hydrated, especially during the warmer months. And as with any hike, be prepared for this surprise mid day rain storms and take a light rain coat and also be respectful to the environment.

My husband and I did the 11 mile hike in 4.5 hours. I guess it was a little warmer than usual & there is a major drought but the falls were still flowing, thankfully! The scenery is amazing and the climate changes from forest to almost desert like about 1/2 way through made it really neat. 1,000-2,000 year old redwoods...beyond beautiful!

This is a good place to enjoy the redwoods. If you buy property in the local area, it's a nasty winter. (trees fly, branches fall, flooding, roads fall out, landslides and severe mud-sliding.

Hi! Sorry I did not notice your question until just now.
The answer has several parts. I would say “No” in wet months and thru late Spring. Too many muddy spots.
In dry weather a qualified “Yes” so long it is light and you are able/willing to carry child and leave it by trailside during the last mile or so to the falls and back.
And one other note. There is a hikers’ detour from the main road within the first hundred yards after leaving the overnight camper parking area. It takes you through terrain where you will not want to try bringing a stroller.
