The redwood and it’s mystery.
okt. 2021 • Familie
Amazing place it’s been almost 30 years since I last came. Lots to see much has changed but still has the same great awe inspiring feeling. Prices are reasonable gift shop is a little on the pricey side but many unique items. Across the street is a cafe and hotel for overnight accommodations.

A Must See
okt. 2021
My family visited Trees of Mystery 60 years ago. Of course, I don't have much memory of that! Being greeted by Paul Bunyan and the Blue Babe, brought back vague memories (we returned home with a redwood knob to start a tree, it failed). The trails are well maintained with descriptions and information about the trees. Must dos: the canopy trail (suspension between the trees), sky trail, quick stop at the interpretive center and if you're with kids, the Trail of Tall Tales. The Brotherhood Tree was amazing. The Wilderness trail was super steep. Fortunately, it hadn't rained recently, otherwise I'm sure we would have reached the bottom with mud on our bottoms. I think we were the only ones to take it, it was super quiet. Don't try it with small kids though. The trails exit through the gift shop, so do the trails first.

Amazing Museum
sep. 2021
I'd like to focus on the museum portion of this attraction. For its size it's one of the better presentations of NW Native-American artifacts south of Seattle or Vancouver, B.C. Different windows highlight native garb, tools, language, and other aspects of the local cultures. It really is quite fascinating.

The actual hike through the trees couldn't be done because we were traveling with our older dog. Maybe next time.

Fun Visit
sep. 2021
Exceeded expectations! Spent the morning there, glad we started early, was getting crowded by noon. Worth the price of admission.

Better than I expected! Tree walkway makes it more than worth it to go.
sep. 2021
I do love a good roadside attraction. This one was better than expected! I really wanted to come for the tree walk way, which adds some modern adventure to the 50's roadside feel of some of the carvings/story/etc. And the walkway was more than worth it. I liked it better than the one at the zoo (which granted was half closed when I went). The suspension bridges are high and fabulous! The gondola was nice too - not really a lot to see but a nice add on. The staff seeemed mostly disinterested after a long summer season, but that's part of the roadside attraction fun. lol.

Bucket List stop!
aug. 2021 • Par
This place has been on my bucket list for well over 10 years and I'm happy to say I was not disappointed! Seeing Paul and Babe on the drive up was amazing. They really are HUGE! We saw some people stop just to snap photos with them then leave.....don't do this as you will miss out on a great experience. Parking is free and the lot is pretty big so you shouldn't have trouble finding a parking spot. The museum inside the gift shop is free if you're on a budget BUT the real fun is on the hiking path which costs $20. Not only do you get to hike through the redwoods but there is a canopy walk now where you can walk through the middle and tops of the trees. It really gives a whole different perspective being that high up. It shows just how tall these trees really are.

Also included with admission is a ride on the gondola. Not gonna lie this one scared me pretty bad but then again I am afraid of heights a bit. Once you ride the gondola up you have the option to ride it back down or hike down. We were told the hike down is really steep so we opted to ride back. Towards the end of your hike you will see funny little carvings that depict the life of Paul Bunyan. These were too fun and we enjoyed this part almost as much as the rest. You actually get a lot for the admission price and we were very pleased. The hike ends at the gift shop and it is large with lots of unique souvenirs so don't miss the chance to grab something cool before heading on your way. I would definitely stop here again!

Disappointing
aug. 2021
This is a nostalgic stop for me every time my family drives down to visit the Redwoods. We generally stop, eat a sack lunch, say hello to Paul and Babe, get a tasty little treat (ice-cream, chocolate) from the gift shop, and then hit the road again. We stopped by a few weeks ago on our way north, and - having been very impressed by everyone being super careful about Covid stuff throughout our trip in the Redwoods all the way to Mendocino - were quite shocked to see that the gift shop was filled with unmasked patrons (which is it's own thing - but considering California has an indoor mask mandate, there were a surprising number of rebels here) - but that most frustrating part was that the the vast majority of employees were not wearing masks. I certainly felt like the odd duck out bringing my 5 masked, young children in to get some ice-cream. I politely inquired why no one seemed to be exercising caution and wearing a mask. All fingers pointed to the owner. One worker told me that she was fully vaccinated but probably 70% of her co-workers were not. It was just really disappointing after having such a positive experience in other businesses along the Coast. Next time we drive by, I will hesitate before stopping, and possibly just wave to Paul Bunyan from the road. Disappointing.

Worth a look
aug. 2021
I talked him into going, but he wasn't feeling it. Reading the brochure, there seems to be a lot of walking & he's mobility impaired. If it was just me, I would have paid to go in.

The gift shop is free & there's a fabulous museum of Native American artifacts next to the gift shop. Museum is free (donations accepted). The museum alone made this a worth while stop.

There's the huge statue of Paul Bunyan & Babe. Also, some other sculptures.
The parking lot is large. There's bathrooms.
I would say this is a quality tourist trap! Kids especially would enjoy it.

Well Worth Your Time
aug. 2021
My 12 yr. old daughter and I visited Trees of Mystery on August 11, 2021. It's directly located on Hwy. 101 just south of Crescent City and is in the heart of the Redwoods.

*Please be advised of the traffic closure times on Hwy. 101 at "Last Chance Grade" until the end of August 2021!* It will impact your travel if you are coming from the north or heading north afterwards.

The park has lots of paved parking and you are greeted by Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. There are nice bathrooms and of course, a large gift shop with the usual souvenir trinkets, fudge and ice cream etc.

Once you pay your entrance fee, you are free to follow the trail which leads to the steps and the canopy of the redwood trees, which are linked together by suspension bridges and walkways high up in the trees. There is lots of walking required, so if you have trouble walking, some of the trails and tree canopy bridges may be a problem.

However, we saw people of all ages, young and old walking in the tree canopy and bridges. It does give you a different perspective of the large redwood trees when you are high up in them.

After going through the trees, you can take the sky tram to the top of the property where you get great views of the ocean. However, the views for us that day were impacted due to the smoke from the nearby wildfires. If you visit at a time other than the wildfire season, you should have awesome views from the top observation deck.

At the top, you have the option of returning via the sky tram or walking back down the mile plus trail, which can be difficult for some due to the steep elevation changes. There are also bathrooms at the top and a nice observation deck. Unfortunately, the trail down was closed because it was nearing time to close the park and you wouldn't finish walking the trail until after the park was closed.

The park property is very clean and well maintained and offers lots of history of the area and the redwood trees. If you have about 2 hours, I highly recommend visiting Mystery of Trees for anyone who has an interest in the redwoods and wants a different perspective of them.

Worth the visit.
mai 2021
We have been here before, decades ago, so we knew what to expect.
We had to wait a half hour for them to open, even after using the public rest rooms they have, which are open before they are. They're clean too!
Once we got in, this place did not let us down. There is a marvelous, varied selection of tourist chotskies, and they have a superb display of Native American art, history, and life styles.
There is a chair lift to a scenic view, as well as a trail.
If nothing else, stop and get a picture of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. Why they're here, who knows; they're a Maine or Minnesota "thing," but they did a great job making huge statues of both. Can't miss them. We even picked up a Paul Bunyan and Babe salt & pepper shaker set.
