WW2 relic

Can drive by and have a look. Interesting history: used disguised farm house as radar station to detect possible Japanese invasion WW2.

Disappointing.
jul. 2021
Disappointing If you read the signs at the trailhead and on the way, although few, you really have the history of the place. There is nothing at the end of the trail but abandoned buildings that have no marking or description. Very disappointing at the end of an easy walk. Free, plenty of parking at trailhead.

For history buffs

This is on Coastal Drive, a one-way road that becomes gravel for a short time. The road is known to have scenic ocean views, but when we drove along it, the High Bluffs Overlook was closed due to the coronavirus. Well, given the fog we wouldn’t have seen much ocean anyway. The Radar Station is marked by a small display on the left side of the road, with a couple of spots for cars. Park and walk down about a quarter mile to see the WW II radar station disguised as a farmhouse and barn. There’s no entry into the buildings, but if you walk behind them, you can see some of the wooden planks that used to cover the cinder block to make the buildings look more like farm structures; these have mostly rotted away by now.

Short hike to buildings
sep. 2019
A short downhill hike to building used as a radar station in WWII. Camoflaged to look like farm building they kept a lookout. Doesn't take long to see, worth the stop if you interested in history.

A view of history

A one-lane unpaved road takes you to this bit of preserved history. We viewed from the road. I never knew that Japanese subs had attacked our mainland.

A Bit of WWII History
sep. 2018 • Par
When you are visiting the Klamath River area, take the coastal drive (motor homes and trailers prohibited) to view what looks to be a set of farm structures that were really a radar facility for early warning during WWII. You can pull off the road and walk down to the structures.

Hard to locate

If you don't have someone from the military with you, you really don't understand what you're looking at. Nice scenery around the station though.

Little-known WWII history
mar. 2018 • Par
Off the beaten path, and not well-marked, is the WWII radar station that was disguised as a farmhouse and barn. There is only a small turnout and a historical marker to be seen from the road. But a short (2-minute) hike down a gravel trail takes you to the farmhouse and barn. Be sure to read the historical marker first so you know what you are heading down to see; there is nothing else to tell you about the site. But for those who like history, it is a nice place to stop and learn a bit more.

Wonderful that this historic place has been preserved. Would have been even more interesting if acces to builfdings and some equipment had been on display.

A Relic of War and worth the visit for the Pacific views
mar. 2016
It is a little off the beaten path, but a perfect place for military history buffs. It is down a hill from the road so it is not good for those with mobility issues, definitely not ADA compliant. It has great photo ops considering the location. If you like historical sites, this one is worth the visit.
