Yes, one can see the devastation of Tamarack Fire on the drive in. Yet as nature does, it regrows and flourishes. I was in Reno and went to check it out the campsite I'll be staying at this week... the loop I'm staying in is like it's own bubble. There isn't a stark reminder of the fire that occurred years ago. Instead all I saw at the park was luscious green landscape. Beautiful and breathtaking.

I've gone here since I was a kid. Love it! A previous review mentioned the Tamarak Fire which did definitely cause damage but the campsites are fine and the park is open. No reason to worry!

Went in 2018 before the Tamarack Fire destroyed it, 2021. It was definitely a great place to camp, and the hot springs was nice. The area around was beautiful and a great place to hike and roam and just have fun. When the Tamarack Fire hit is destroyed the park and everything around it. California closed it, probably permanently.

Tent camped for two nights and visited the hot springs both days. Beautiful sites in nature with plenty of space, expect visits from the local birds and chipmunks, bear boxes also provided. Clean toilets and hot showers (token required). Reservations required for the hot springs because of covid but that kept the crowds small, a great way to relax after a day of hiking. Absolutely no phone signal so have your maps downloaded and prepare to disconnect and relax.

You must get online and reserve a 90-minute timeslot, and pay the $10 fee. If a thunderstorm show up and they see lightening in the distance, pool closed for 30 min.

Stopped here when HW 395 was closed due to a fire. So beautiful and great enforcement of COVID 19 standards. Inexpensive and unique experience.

Three generations of our family have come to the springs for soaking and camping. Now, when we get to it this year maybe) it will be the fourth generation visiting for the first time. It has had everything we needed for over 60 years. It is clean and sanitary, there are precautions that swimming pools must take in order to be in business. If you need a California hot tub experience, I suggest you go out and make your own. We have always camped at the campground which also had been acceptable (EXCEPT for the motorhomes on steroids that feel the need to run their generators 24/7). Pick your campsite carefully; we once had a baby bear in a tree above our campsite that we were unaware of until dusk one night.

Two pools; one for swimming, one for soaking. Great price, nice clean changing rooms, beautiful summer meadow nearby to take a rest in before returning to bathe. We'll definitely revisit.

Hi, We are planning a family trip here next summer for my brother and my families. We would like to get 2 sites that are adjacent and close-ish to the bathrooms for little bladders. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

What’s it like in November and December for this stay? What’s the closest resort as well
Skrevet 29. oktober 2019
There could be snow but it is a bit lower than Tahoe. Hard to tell. I suggest you call the rangers for accurate information. Although the hot springs stays open through the winter the main campground is closed. There is one loop that is open on a first come first serve basis.

Are the falls still going in October?and are there signs showing where the hike begins? Thanks
Skrevet 29. september 2018
The falls are flowing year round but are much more spectacular in the spring with the snow run off! It is a pleasant easy hike to with in 5 minutes of the falls and then you must scramble over some big granite rocks to get to the actual falls.
Skrevet 12. desember 2018
Campfires are allowed in the provided campfire rings in the campground and you must check with the local forest service for current and up to date regulations in the surrounding forest.

The Waterfall Trail is one of the Grover State Park, (CA) trails that are described on Alltraill website. If you want to know about places to go hiking, check out their website. I have hiked the Waterfall Trail and I recall that there were rocks that you had to climb.( I may have ventured off of the trail though.) The following is a description of the Waterfall Trail from All Trails:
Grover Hot Springs State Park Waterfall Trail is a 2.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Markleeville, California that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

I am disabled and use a walker. The park ranger said there are no disabled parking places. I find this rather horrifying. Walks to 1/2 mile are common to get to the pools. What am I to do?

There are spaces right at the pool yes. But they fill up first. There is a ranger on the gate who diverts you to the further away parking. Any reasonable ranger would let you head up to the ranger parking spot at the pool
Skrevet 30. juli 2016
Dogs are allowed, on leash, at the campground and on the trails. They are not allowed in the pool area.
