My wife and I greatly enjoy Poalillo, probably done of our best 'fun' times came from here with respect to vineyards. I read about the bad day in the comments section; wow, absolutely truthful from Susan and not some BS or PC answer, flat out truth. If you cannot respect that honesty....
Living here in Paso we get asked a lot, a whole lot whom to go to and without pause it's here first and foremost. Why, because it's a no BS operation with real conversations and not some Napa snob job. Frankly, it's how it was here in the area when we first arrived 25 yesterday ago, Poalillo hasn't changed and that's a good thing.
Great wines, strong Reds, great conversations... Don't ever change.

Poalillo looks massive with its villa and curb appeal but it has a small town soul. The staff, and the stories behind some of their wines are what makes visiting fun. Definitely a family affair. Poalillo is a must visit if in the area. Tasting room is indoor/outdoor and has a fun vibe. Also dog friendly.

Stumbled upon this place after visiting Italy and seeing the beautiful villa on the hill. Loved the tasting experience with Jen. Very informative and fun. Small tasting room but quaint with a nice outdoor area. We have revisited this place on several occasions even renting the one of the units overnight. We love Charlie's story. We met his daughter Susan right after his death this spring. We now feel like family. Love their Zens and angel share rose. You can also get a bite to eat here. On vineyard road near opola.

This review is primarily for Chateau Susana, the amazing Italian second story guest house. I found it on HomeAway. However you may be able to call direct, don't quote me on this.
I hesitate to write this review Only because this place is so special, so magnificent that I don't want travelers beating their door down lol.
There has been no attention to detail missed in the making of this second floor home. It's palatial at 2000 ft, huge gourmet kitchen, open to a large and colorful Italian living room open to a expansive formal dining room w the most beautiful walnut (I think 🤓) long table w complete service. Large balcony overlooking the vineyards and beautiful nature. You wake up to the birds singing. 🐦
There are 2 very lovely bedrooms, one is the "Diva" room for us girls.
The wines we enjoyed were all good, especially the Zin! The outdoor patio and live music is a great touch and the people So friendly. We made several new friends this trip and are returning this weekend for the Harvest Festival and really looking forward to that.
Please support local family owned wineries/inns like this one. The is True Paso!! Susan is just LOVELY!

We learned about Poalillo zins from a trusted friend who had brought them home. The stories about Charlie and Joyce were charming and the wine wonderful. We've been able to visit several times, sadly after Joyce's death and Charlies retirement. I just found out the Joyce is my cousin (had met her mom, my dad's Aunt) in North Dakota years ago. What a small world!

If you are looking for great Zins in Paso this is the place. Not a bad wine in the bunch. This is my second year of tasting their wines and I enjoyed them just as much this year.

We stopped in here twice on the weekend. We found this winery on Thursday and had to bring our friends back on Saturday because the wines were so good. Jen (I think that was her name) took care of us and was very knowledgeable about their wines and their history. I joined the wine club after telling my wife that we would not be joining any wine clubs ont his trip. Their wines are unique and this is a must stop place to go.

Thank you very much for all your kind words. Jenni is the lady that helped you both days and she is the tasting room and wine club manager. She is wonderful at conveying our story and is knowledgeable about Paso Robles. I am very happy to hear you had a great visit. Also wanted to thank you for joining our wine club. As part of joining the club, you are now apart of the Poalillo family and hope to see you again when you come to Paso Robles. Cheers, Susan Poalillo

I absolutely love the zins at Poalillo, and the grounds are lovely. Two years ago we visited and bought and had a great time sitting out on the patio chatting with other visitors. But this year when we visited, the gentleman in the tasting room (owner? winemaker?) seemed angry when I gave him our coupon for complimentary tasting and thereafter was anything but friendly. He was even gruff when I exclaimed how excellent the wine was! Anyone can have a bad day, but he sure spoiled our experience. What a shame. If we go again, I sure hope the woman who served us on our previous visit is there instead.

Hello, I am so sorry you had a less than "great" experience the last time you were at Poalillo Vineyards, I know that your previous visit was very good. Not an excuse, but that particular day (I remember because my husband told me about it) was not one of his best, Customers usually love his style of presenting our wine and his personality when doing so. However that day and for several days prior, we had at least 20 tasters come by with that Free Tasting Card (as it was expiring by the end of the year). Many tasters with free tasting cards are wonderful, have a great time, purchase wine and join our wine club, but that was not the case during that period and Dave just saw dollar bills flying out the door. As you know we are a small family run boutique winery, we do not have other jobs to help subsidize the winery, Dave is our vintner, our vineyard manager (doing a lot of the work himself) and business manager and resident musician. I run the tasting room along with Jenni, our wonderful manager, schedules our special events, concerts, parties, rehearsal dinners etc. We also have 2 vacation rentals on the property to manage. It is a wonderful lifestyle but a very busy and demanding one also. Again I apologize for his gruffness, please give him a chance to charm you next time you are here. Jenni works Tuesday - Saturday and Dave is here on Sundays and some Mondays. Hopefully next time you might like to stay on the vineyard and we can have some fun together. Any further comment feel free to call us at 805-238-0621. Susan Poalillo

We frequent Paso Robles quite often for work and of course, wine tasting. If you have ever been to Paso and driven down Vineyard Drive there will be several wineries on this road along with deer, foxes, raccoons and wild boar so be mindful of this. Especially at night because they love to run out on the road at night In front of your car. It's a beautiful drive during the daytime. We stopped at Paolillo winery. Grounds are beautiful with vines surrounding the property. There's also a cottage on the grounds separate from the owners home and tasting room that you can also stay at. We did our wine tasting. The wines are fabulous. They share the tasting room with Stanger Winery. Great wines as well. The tasting room is decorated with original photos of celebrities of the 40's era. The owner was a professional photographer/paparazzi in his day. Now semi retired and his daughter Susan took over. We sat and chatted with Susan for hours after the tasting room closed and had such a great time we booked the cottage for the following week.
We returned during the beginning of harvest. The cottage is nice and very peaceful at night. There is a kitchenette however, there is no stove. There is a microwave and toaster oven, full fridge and dishwasher and stackable washer and dryer. Bring your own food cuz towni is about 20-30 minutes away. Its very quiet at night and you do get very limited phone/Internet service if you stand near the tasting room.
The quiet of the night can be unnerving for some especially if you are from the city and used to noise. It was great for us and Susan was most hospitable. For the price, you can't beat it. They have 2 very friendly dogs on the property and the cottage is pet friendly. We loved it and look forward to coming back.
