The staff at our hotel recommended LXV for a wine tasting. I hesitated in making reservations as it is a small tasting room with a patio in downtown Paso Robles. I prefer going out to the winery, not just a tasting room in town. But others at restaurants recommended it also, so we decided to give it a try. What we loved was the unique tasting room. It is very Indian, filled with bright colors, sofas and lots of colorful pillows. It was very cozy and unique and we settled in for a fun tasting. We chose to do the wine tasting with spices and I highly recommend it, it is so cool, different and incredible. We were given plates with cheese that was marinated in the different spices that pair with each wine. The wines are lovely. Each one was very smooth, rich in flavor and when you take a taste and then pop a piece of cheese with spices in your mouth, it is a beautiful thing. We really enjoyed each of the spice mixtures with the wine. It helps guide you to what dishes you would serve each wine with.
Our only disappointment was the woman in the tasting room. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the wines which we appreciated. We were the only ones in the tasting room and I understand she was trying to clean, organize and wipe things down, but....we tried to ask questions about the spices, what you would put them on and she never answered our questions. We felt rushed. She would pour and leave, which left us wishing there was more interaction so we could talk about the wines, but it just didn't happen. The wines are special, but also it is a very small winery and they make small batches which drives up the price of their wines. Definitely worth a visit for the unique experience. Reservations are required, and masks required until you are seated. They have a small parking lot, so unless it is very busy, you should easily find parking.
