A great COVID-friendly wine tasting! We picked Phillips Hill for a tasting specifically because their website made it seem like they were taking COVID seriously - and we are glad we did. They are strictly reservation only right now, so the number of people on the property is limited at any time. We were seated far away from any other group, and all of the pours were already pre-bottled and labelled for us! It was a great way to adapt a traditional wine tasting to the pandemic. We enjoyed talking with the two women working there, and really felt welcome. It was a beautiful spot and the wines were great - we left with two bottles. Will defintely be back!

Our first visit though we are frequent Anderson Valley visitors. Relatively small winery just west of Navarro Vineyards, north side of highway 128.
Tasting room is essentially outdoors below a historic old apple barn. Was pleasant when we were there but I suppose you might need a sweater or jacket on a cold day and it probably becomes an oasis on a very hot day. Tasting area is small so not sure how it works if there is a crowd.
Wines are tasty. We tasted a chardonnay, a Gewurztraminer, and three pinot noirs.
Tasting fee of $10 pp is refundable with each bottle of wine you purchase.
Tasting room staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the other valley wineries.

In a historic building, used for decades on an apple orchard, Phillips Hill has done a fabulous job preserving the essence of the building while carving out a beautiful wine tasting area. The charm of the old building is a perfect backdrop for the charm of their Pinots. Our trip through their wines was narrated by Natacha, the delightful wife of the wine maker. Top Notch Wines!

We have been visiting the winery regularly for a number of years now. Asides from making a wonderful repertoire of wines, their hospitality is always such a delight. It was a pleasure to see Natacha again, and great to meet the friendly and insightful Kendra for the first time. Especial favorites this time were the Chardonnay, Riesling, and Oppenlander Pinot.
On a business note, I saw a very clever idea here. Since wine tasting isn't geared towards children, they staff gave two young boys a scavenger hunt list with a promise of a treat if they found all of the listed things. Smart! The parents got to evaluate the wines in peace, and the other patrons didn't have children running amuck in the tasting room. Well done!

A small winery run by a couple who take great pride in their products. The fee of $10 for tasting is waived if you purchase wine. This should not be an issue since i can't imagine not buying. The Pinots are excellent and the Chardonnay is what they are known for. The Chard is crisp and light and we recommend it highly.
The tasting room is in an old apple barn and has a charm all of its own.

We stopped here for a wine tasting. Tastings are $10 (though you don't pay for the tasting if you buy wine). They have a nice tasting room and the hospitality manager was very knowledgeable and helpful. The wines were really good. I especially like the Chardonnay, which is not oaked and was fruity, crisp, and very easy to drink. She gave us an updated map of the area and made several recommendations of other wineries for us to check out, as well as local activities.

It was too bad we arrived just 5 minutes before closing time so we weren't able to sample any of the wines. The owner however was very gracious and stayed and talked with us.

Located in heart of Anderson Valley. One of our many stops in the area. The tasting room is up a flight of stairs. Not good if you have had a few to drink.
We stopped in on a day that a wine club event was happening later on in evening. We were helped promptly in this large tasting room. Pleasantly enlighten and educated on many a things about wine that we didn't know before coming in.
We tried several of the offerings including the Chardonnay. This was smooth, sweet crisp. The man helping us educated us that the Chardonnay was not like any other in the neighborhood. He explained the non oak taste one would usually expect to find. He explained the malolactic to remove some expect to find in Chardonnay. Definitely a treat. We enjoyed the Chardonnay and the white wine offerings with cheese event offerings going on that evening made from ownership/culinary chef in house. Included in the food was a French Cheese, Cheese Puff, and Crustini. There are no words that can justify how amazing these pairings were with the wine.
We were impressed with the winery and took two bottles home. We would recommend on the wine but would come for the food pairings and membership.

My latest trip to Anderson Valley, Ca. included a stop at Phillips Hill winery. There are several wineries to choose from - not as many as Napa, but far more friendly. This one is a small spot with a very nice facility. They have a small selection of pinots and chards. Their inexpensive pinot is one of the best in the price range, and will do well with a wide range of meals.
I'm adding this to my own personal route map of the Valley. I'll need to return soon, when the weather allows a greater view.
