good fishing areas . lake was a little low, but up from past years , I found several areas with good access to the fishing areas .

this beautiful lake is easily accessible from Redding. Renting kayaks was easy and the staff were very helpful.

Tuesday night at the Powerhouse meant we had this pretty place all to ourselves in the 99 degree heat.
We walked.
We photographed the perfectly-reflected mountains with the last light of our first day on vacation.
Our Husky splashed and cooled off.
We fished for about 20 minutes.
After making the 4.5 journey up from the Bay Area, deposting our bags in the hotel and jumping into the pool, we made the 17 minute drive out to Whiskeytown Lake to end the day with nature and movement.
Next time, we'll enjoy the Marina!

Active duty military, so can't really speak to the value of any kind of park pass. It's free for us, so heck yeah, it's worth it. When the temp hits triple digits, we make our way to the lake only 10 minutes west of Redding. Nice facilities, ample parking, and ability to rent tubes/kayaks/canoes.

If your at the Lake and want to be adventurous hike the trail to Whiskeytown Falls it’s about 4 miles round trip mostly uphill going. It is well worth it. Take your time we are in our 70’s and made it. After you enjoyed the falls take the steps up about 5 minutes to the upper falls. Even better. We were there in April.

Crowded. Can be human waste in water floating. Can be too loud with drinking crowds. I prefer Trinity or Shasta Lakes.

I've visited the area dozens of times, but I just made it to Whiskeytown Lake for the first time. I came for sightseeing, but this lake looks perfect for boating, picnicking, and every other outdoor water activity.

Lots of places to pull off the road to enjoy the lake. Some larger parking lots with boat ramps as well. Great for kayaking, tubing, swimming with the kids or dogs. Generally the lake is pretty warm on the surface, not freezing cold like the Sacramento River. About 20 min from Redding.

I thought this lake was beautiful and would have loved to be there during the warmer months when there was more activity. The whole area is nice and if you are here, come check out the lake.

Warm clean and not very many people.Great place to beat the heat.Some places are hard to access.Water edge is rocky in places and small steep trails are. the only way in some of the more remote areas.

Not on the official beaches, but there are lots of nice areas on the shore line.

Yes, we are concerned about how the fire has effected the area. We have booked a houseboat and called the rental resort and asked if the houseboats have smoke/ash damage they said everything was fine. I find that hard to believe. Do you know any different?

therein a lot of smoke and fire damage here. Whiskeytown lake area is closed not sure how much of Shasta is closed. Its called the Hirz fire so u might want to ck with various sights on how its doing. Hope this may be helpful

I believe it’s $8 or you can buy a pass for $40 and that includes Lassen Volcanic Park and it’s good for a year from the date of purchase.
Can you camp on the lake with your boat? Is it open year round?

Yes, there's a tent campground that includes 16 camp sites along the shoreline where you can moor your boat. There's also an RV campground (22 sites) with a boat launch ramp adjacent to the RV campground, and a variety of boats can be rented at the marina. Call the campground store to make a reservation.

None of the main beaches - Oak Bottom or Brandy Creek, but any other area is fine.

There are a variety of beaches around. Honestly, I don't go to the beaches because I usually have my dog with me and dogs are not allowed. However, I highly recommend Oak Bottom Marina. I usually rent a kayak from them and my dog and I paddle around the lake. I found this one island that is usually not crowded and she can run around. I am not from the Whiskeytown area. I am sure there are beaches where you can access from hiking. I hope this helps.

Hi,
I work at Whiskeytown, and can tell you that dogs are allowed everywhere in the park on a 6 foot leash, except at Brandy Creek beach, Oak Bottom beach, and East beach. If you want to take a dog to the water, good places include the Whiskey Creek picnic area, the Judge Carr powerhouse area, and the Brandy Creek Marina area. I hope this helps.
