Now it's my favorite museum of all the Bay Area. So many memories came back looking at the former USSR posters! And from so many other countries. Very interesting, and I want to go back as there is so much to see and absorb.

I had been meaning to visit this museum as my adult son and I are very interested in world politics, but Covid hit and we weren't able to go. We finally went today and were not disappointed one bit. We spent a good hour and a half (or more) because we read every description card and discussed each poster, photo, or other items. Although it appears small when you enter, everything is well curated and presented without opinion so that the viewer can learn without a bias. They have an excellent small library in the back room that is worth a visit if you are looking for titles. The museum is open limited days and hours, so check the schedule before you go. I'm already looking forward to attending some of their special events and lectures.

Very interesting and informative. Seeing all the items was eye opening. This is a great collection of posters, banners, pictures, and figures.

This is one of a kind place. The collection of propaganda artefact from all around the world, old and contemporary is nowhere else to find. And the very involved description labels make it even better. If you are Lucky and visit when Tom Areton (one of the husband-wife founders) is there you are in for a great treat. He has a great personal story to every single one of the displayed pieces.
Definitely worth to see and I stop by every single time I'm in the area.

Great little museum. I was particularly intrigued by a new exhibit of Nazi propaganda cartoons and editions of Der Sturmer. Also some fascinating artifacts from the Chinese Cultural Revolution and from North Korea. The US isn't spared, although, there isn't much about contemporary propaganda. Perhaps the curators are afraid of anything that might lead to accusations of partisanship. The main exhibit is organized to illustrate some common propaganda themes, in other words, thematically rather than chronologically. I hope there's an opportunity for this museum to be expanded in the future, because the topic of propaganda is huge and deserves a larger space.

There are so many items in this small museum with wonderful captions and labels explaining them. They are divided into different sections by propaganda by ideology and by geography. It was definitely eye opening. A new section highlighted newspaper cartoon propaganda. This was all donated by one person that collected them starting when he lived in Germany during WWII. I would have had to have spent much more time there in order to read all the signs and explanations. I highly recommend a visit here. It is a small place in the downtown area. Kitty corner across the street is a plaza with 5 or 6 excellent international estauraants for san enjoyable lunch. There are other well-known restaurants just a couple of blocks away. The woman in the museum offered excellent suggestions.

This is one of the most fascinating and obscure museum I've visited. This couple has spent 30 years collecting an array of posters, artifacts, and memorabilia. The items share an interesting observation about some of the political interpretations throughout the world in different time periods.
I ope you enjoy your visit as much as i did.

I went with my 22 year old daughter, and she probably got tired of me saying "I remember that!" Ok, I'm not old enough for all the Nazi propaganda, but the Chinese, Soviet, Cuban, & Iranian stuff was familiar enough. And the placards at each piece were very interesting as they pointed out major themes, or small nuances that really enhanced understanding. It's looks tiny at first - I thought a 25 minute visit tops... but we spend a good hour and felt we cut it short! And that was before we got to conversing with Tom Areton, one of the creators of the museum with his wife LIlka. He was very nice, and made the place even more special as he gave us more information on the pieces, and his personal life behind the Iron Curtain. And the 22 year old? She liked it as much as I did!

A small museum in a somewhat difficult spot to get to (especially without a car)... but worth the trip.
An impartial museum with mind-boggling displays. They define propaganda and display it from left, right, and center Posters, history, (soon to be displayed, I hear, propaganda through postage stamps), dolls. Plus, it's pay what you want.
Sure you make you laugh... and angry when "your side" gets lambasted. They allow picture taking... and you'll want to take plenty. Stalin and little kids. Teddy Roosevelt and the great outdoors. Just amazing.

This little museum is a recent (~2015) addition to San Rafael, and it's awesome. Run by a married couple who've traveled extensively, the MoIP is primarily a collection of things they have acquired or photographed from around the world. There is fascist propaganda and the kind we're all more acquainted with, the museum is even-handed. Each item gets a descriptive tag, and the descriptions are written with a sense of humor that I enjoy just as much as the displays. Thursday nights the museum hosts a movie night, they're very welcoming and will bring you right in to a chair and a snack.
Also, there's an option for donation but no fee is expected. Why wouldn't you go?
