I haven't been to Great America in over 20 years, so I read some reviews before we went so I would know what to expect. My husband and I were bringing 3 teen boys with us, we wanted to capitalize on the fun for them. A lot of the reviews I read, I was set up for disappointment. I was expecting a run down, overpriced, terrible food and service park, full of unruly teens. That was not what we got. It was festively decorated for Tricks and Treats and there were a ton of dressed up kids and adults in the park. It was clean, the majority of the rides were open (a couple were closed several times a day, but re-opened) Overall it felt like a family friendly park that is in fact still being taken care of.
We did opt for the very expensive fast passes. They were probably worth it, as the day went on the park did fill up. By night it was pretty packed, we got there around 2pm and enjoyed the day being able to navigate the park without having to wait long anywhere. As dark neared the lines started getting pretty long, and the fast passes were handy. Yes, the food is overpriced we paid nearly 15. for a caramel apple, but it was good. . We also had fried chicken and it really wasn't that bad. Every staff member we interacted with was pleasant. The boys spent the day doing what they wanted, we wandered around and checked the whole place out. It's big and it was festively decorated for Halloween, they even had a whole Oktoberfest section that had beer and games. (Husband doesn't drink or we would have hung out here for awhile) There were fire pits set up with comfy chairs. Overall, our experience was surprisingly fun. Yes, it is expensive, especially if you get fast passes, and you buy food. (We did buy the boys the meal plan, unsure if it was worth it, as it did not include snacks or drinks, and I think they only ended up using it once); but if they plan to eat more than once, it will pay for itself. The bathrooms were clean and there were plenty around the park, you can bring a water bottle and refill it around the park, there are lockers ($15.00 for a small one), but you can also leave and come back if you stop and talk to the exit gate person. There are carnival games, they are pretty expensive. No cash here, but there are kiosks were you can turn cash into a card. Like I said overall we had fun, The Demon is still a super fun coaster after 20 years!
And the Gold Striker is no joke. Probably the scariest, most fun coaster I have ever been on. It was nuts.

We took our kids (6 and 10) and had a good time. I came here trying to find info on food--for a meal, it currently costs about $18 plus drink plus tax. Buying a meal plan is also about $18, but comes with the (small) drink.
However, we got two Premium meal plans and ate in shifts. It came out to $65 or so and we got 6 meals from our two plans. We could have gotten 8, since we were there all day, but we were all full and burnt-out on theme park food. (The food is typical for a theme park, nothing fancy, but it works.)

I have been waiting for a refund check to be mailed to me since 6/5/24, it is now 8/23/24. I have called more times than I can count and never receive a call back. The ONE time I get a return call was a month ago saying the check had been approved to be mailed but had to wait on accounting. Still haven't received a check and we live in Oregon. I am absolutely DISGUSTED with this company. I have visited many times as a kid and have taken my kids as well. I will NEVER return. Worst customer service in history.

Altogether, a very disappointing experience. Despite advertisements to the contrary, quite a few features were closed. What outdoor seating was available, was dirty. Rides were ok. Food was mostly snack items and very expensive. We did not try the water park section. Hopefully, that is a better experience.
All in all, it felt as though the employees didn’t care very much about the place.

When entering for parking they had us pay $30 to park but no tickets were charged they told us online military pays at gate for discount then we were sent to guest service who the. Told us they will charge us more for being military or to go online and get tickets after waiting in line an hour so we had to go back on our phones and were charge reg price to get in all of this could have been avoided if your military buy before going do not trust the web site instructions

We participated in the Great America Food and Wine Festival, and we want to say that this park is a very good experience! All the staff were friendly and professional, the grounds were clean and well kept. The entry fees are very reasonable. There is plenty to do for the youg kids in the section towards the water park. We recommend the Cantina for lunch. When we return we will visit the New Orleans section.

It is a great little park. So sad that it’s is going to close. The Bay Area needs a decent amusement park and CGA is so much more family friendly and better themed than Six Flags in Vallejo. CGA’s parking situation is also so much better than Six Flags. Food prices are exorbitant and options are limited. $90 for 6 pretzels and 5 drinks. $80 for 2 hot dogs and 5 icees. $12 for popcorn. You can bring your own water bottle and refill at the park. Restrooms aren’t the cleanest but they get the job done. Lines aren’t long but they move pretty slowly. Despite it all, we love the park and want it to get better and would pay the price to go. This is not Disneyland, so we have much lower expectations. Kids always have fun spending the day at the park, and we are grateful that we have an amusement park in less than an hour drive instead of having to drive 5-7 hours to get to the nearest park. Please please please keep this park open.

We went with teens: let them just wonder. Usually for my wife and I, we just walk around, do a few rides. This time of year it’s great as you can just enjoy great weather with a nice breeze. For the rides, when we first got there it wasn’t busy but only a few rides were open. It got busier after lunch and more rides seemed to open up. The meal plan is not worth it. We did the Funday ticket which gives you all day meals every 90 min without drinks plus on top of admission. It’s a great price if you really think you’re going to have more than one meal. My experience is young kids rarely would eat enough to make a meal plan worth it, and teens don’t care to wait for the food that long as there are usually fairly long waits. Usually I find these very limiting-only some entrees included and for the money, I would have rather had something else. You basically choose from burgers, pizza, fried chicken and hot dogs. Snacks like churros, pretzels,nachos are not included. The website is very misleading when it comes to that. The churro and funnel cake place takes the premium dining meal plan only, but only other snacks are included not the actual churros or funnel cakes.

I would not recommend bringing your family to Great America. The lines are ridiculously long and they do not manage their fast pass system well. The food lines are also very long. It’s not a good use of your family time or money.
I brought 4 kids during Winterfest and in 4 hours we were only able to get food and ride one sad ride, the driving car ride.

Since it has been many years for my last visit here, a friend and I chose to include this park in our itinerary, especially knowing Cedar Fair has sold the park and will close it in ten years or less.
The park was not crowded, and we got many coaster rides. Rerides are allowed up to twice in a row if your seat will be empty on the next ride cycle.
A couple rides were down for maintenance and refurbishment. The operating rides seemed to be in good condition. Line cutting was a bit of a problem, even on a low-crowd day.
Midway were clean. Employees were friendly enough.
Food prices were high, typical of most amusement parks. The park is cashless, and management wants guests to order food on kiosks. Bad idea. You need human interaction here. Some guests have food allergies and need to make sure they won't get food that will harm them (example - daily allergies can't have cheeseburgers. But no hamburger option....). On this day, the kiosks were covered up, so we had to order in person. Only problem, there was no menu listed food options nor prices. Okay....it's a chicken place. Dobyou have nuggets, strip, sandwiches, or all? For kids with a prepaid card, there is no way for them to know if they have enough on the card until the end. Come on, Cedar Fair. I expect better from you.
Cedar Fair has adopted a policy that guests under 15 must have a chaperone over the age of 21 with them after like 5:00. This policy was instated to cut down on unruly, unsupervised kids, but it didn't seem to be enforced. Luckily, most of the kids under 15 without supervision seemed to be behaving. Not all of them was, though. Policies look good in print, but they must be enforced to be effective. Just saying.
I give my visit a grade of B. If you have not been here before, please visit soon. It will not be here much longer, according to Cedar Fair management.

I went to GA a few weeks ago, researching I kept reading you cannot bring anything. Not water bottles food, nothing. From my past years in GA I knew that the food was very low quality and very expensive. We used to cross the street to go to Togo‘s roundtable pizza or McDonald’s. Everybody and their mother had water bottles food. Some people were stopped and they had glassware with watermelons they told them not to bring it next time, and they were able to go in. They are not strict. I would suggest you not bring your food in glass because that was their concern.

I see that parking is $30 a day. That's more than bigger theme parks. Anyone have experience using and Uber from your hotel? I've never used one, so I'm curious about cost. Everything online wants me to download the app ... I just want to know a baseline cost. I'm thinking MUCH cheaper than parking.

Buy the meal plan. I’ve always bought 1 for 2 people to share. You can get an Entree and side every 90 mins. I would set my watch timer. Lol 😂. Same with the all day drink cup. Honestly a small drink seemed like it was $4 or more. We took turns choosing the meal each time and drink. Actually fun!

Yes you should however we travel very light so I never bring more than a small waist pack with me. There is a water park so you can store bags in lockers there or larger bags at the front.

Does Great America offer towels or do I need to bring my own? Also, should we do the water park at the end of the day of the beginning. We would only want to go on some of the great water slides. No children involved. Just two adults looking for fun. Any tips on how to plan for this visit would be great!
