friends living locally took us there and we were delighted with this unexpected visit! My teens were big fans of Gravity Falls and I believe the creator of this cartoon series was inspired by the Mystery Spot. Our guide was excellent and jokes were fast and furious, and although the actually highlight of the tour is 1 thing only, they have managed to make the 45 mine tour enjoyable and fun and we all came out smiling and feeling like we got value for our money. All ages will enjoy this activity.

Okay so this could have been a lot better if there were not so many people in your group. There were amazing things to test out but too many little kids want to show off as superheroes and parents taking a long time to take their pictures for anyone to really get a piece of the action besides those selfish people. If they limited their groups and gave people time to participate in these mysterious events instead of watching little show offs do it it would have been a lot more enjoyable

We visited this place on a whim while staying in San Jose, we drove 45 minutes on a windy road and we got there and the next tickets (tour) wasn’t available for another 2 hours. We went to Santa Cruz in mean time which was great, we came back for the tour while super cheesy, the place was cool and I did feel the pull and I don’t often get dizzy or nauseous on any rides or up high or anything. It’s not just the optical illusion. Worth the $10. Kids loved the poop candy 😂

This was a fun activity. Our guide, Jordan, was funny and very informative. He interacted really well with everyone in our group and he explained the curious features at the mystery spot. The redwoods are beautiful too.

This is probably the most overrated place in Northern California, if not beyond.
A small crooked two room shack is really all it is. A sweet idea that could be a small part of an exhibit about optical illusions in a science museum, is the best I could give this place. But they somehow succeeded to “package“ it into a tourist attraction nestled into a nice spot in the redwoods, with “tours”, food stands, and a gift shop. They took a cute yet small and simple optical illusion and sell it as some gravitational anomaly with magnetic disruption and some old historic story behind it. A marvel of deceptive marketing - like they’re selling straw for the price of gold..
What blows my mind is the 4-5 star reviews about this place. Hard to believe that people’s standards are that low!
And then there’s the “tour” deal - we had a guy called Silas, who tried desperately to entertain us as if we were 8 year olds in a summer camp, with distasteful humor, and bogus stories. Every two sentences of his were connected with either a ”Soooooo…” or a “Buuuuuut….”, both in deafening volume, while many of his sentences were pretty incomprehensible (also due to a slight speech impediment).
The whole deal packaged as the “Mystery Spot” is no mystery at all. It’s a simple optical illusion and the so called “tour” is an exhausting effort to show us the “magic” with a level (that instrument used for construction with a bubble in the middle) and a bunch of bad jokes. To call this a “tour” and give it to adults, is an insult to our intelligence.
The only opportunity to say something interesting, would have been to try to explain physiologically why people feel dizzy and nauseated when they enter this shack. An opportunity that was obviously missed. And the only good joke by Silas was at the end, when he was pitching for good reviews and tips - to say that if the review is bad, his name is Jose… 😏. Well, his name was still Silas, when all was said and done.
I can’t really complain - these “tour guides” are just teenagers spitting out the spiel they were trained to give, while trying to make a few bucks. But come on - to treat adults like kids (and by kids), in this overrated Mystery spot, is just an insulting waste of time. Stay away.

This place was so cool! The tour was very informative and the guides are really personable. It’s not a terribly long tour, as it’s not a big place, but the whole experience was fun! I’m glad we visited during our stay in Santa Cruz!

It's a good attraction for 10 bucks and you can spend about an hour here. Though location is out of the way so overall time taken can be longer. Of course, there is no mystery here but simply an optical illusion and perception trick. Could be good for 12-18 yr students to understand why, and silly fun for younger folks.

Not a big deal, but it was a nice distraction. You have to go so you can say you went. Only $10!!!!!

Rae our guide was great! She was funny and very sweet! She was respectful and had great jokes.
Only downfall was the communication between the reservation host and the other guides. We had to wait after our ticket said a certain tour group number. They did not communicate with each other and we had a different tour time then what we reserved and booked in our reservation. One of the female tour guide was rude because the staff did not communicate well. However, our tour guide Rae made up for it with her being very nice and funny.

The kids loved it & I did too. Rory was a great tour guide. Funny jokes and a Beatles fan! Our kids were engaged and really enjoyed it. The entire staff we encountered was fun. I didn’t experience anyone “odd.” Buy your tickets online. They do sell out and I did see people being turned away.

I don't know. I didn't see any, but I wouldn't recommend it. You do get disoriented and sometimes finding your footing is difficult. Having a dog there would make it dangerous, especially if the animal also feels the same effects.

The tour is the mystery and the solution. Other than that there are only trees to see. It would be a scenic drive without a point. Enjoy the tour.

It's an optical illusion. That's it. Your eyes/brain is playing tricks on you and your belly. If you just take a moment to focus on one single object while standing still, you will stop spinning. There is no magnetic field. Look it up online.

traveling with a 4.5 year old and a toddler from SF to SLO and stopping at Monterrey bay. Is it worth stopping here? will the girls get anything out of it?

The tour guides are very good. They involve every one especially children. Even if they cant understand the mystery they will enjoy the presenter.
Drive is good.
Must visit with children or alone.
Not to forget Chai (TEA) and samosa for indian tourists in canteen

I agree with the other people who responded in regards to your dog. I don't agree with the 'total ripoff'. It's just something fun to do, and I have spent the same amount of money for a 2 minute quick thrill (with an hour wait in line) at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
Skrevet 2. mars 2017
Considering that the location is off the road, I would suggest a Taxi. It is also a few minutes outside of Santa Cruz.
Skrevet 9. februar 2016
How long does the tour take? How much total time should be allotted for a visit?
Skrevet 25. juni 2015
You should allot at least an afternoon for the entire experience. Sometimes you have to wait for a tour to start, but there is plenty to look at, so give yourself 2-3 hours between parking, touring and wandering around checking out the scenery.
