The main museum at Krikilan has a high standard of presentation with touch-screen options available for some exhibits. Guides are available from the local community, they have been well trained to give good quality information and explanations. Allow plenty of time to go through this museum slowly. The other smaller museums in Manyarejo, Bukuran, Ngebung and Dayu are also interesting but do repeat some of the topics covered in Krikilan. These museums are harder to reach due to the poor quality of the roads (bus or coach cannot trvel along these v small roads).
It would be interesting if the museum management could also show actual excavation sites but these are too scattered around the whole area of 59sqkm. Perhaps such sites could be reconstructed and more information be available about the depth at which a fossil was found (if this is known).
The Indonesian ministry has done an amazing job with these museums and I highly recommend this visit.

I do not find this site deserves the WHS classification; historically a bit important I guess, but on the world scale it is nearly insulting the texts are barely in English, and the information doesn't seem updated or even correct sometimes because from time to time it is contradictory.

The best thing in any case of the museum is the price, even accessible for tourists -in most cases in Indonesia we get totally ripped off, here it is reasonable 15k I believe it was.

Parking is a bit far from site but doable and even pleasant, but there are no signs on how to go by foot and as usual there are little sidewalks. I guess the idea is to make a bit extra "forcing" visitors to take the shuttle to the site.

All things said it is a quiet visit, the building and environment are nice, so it is not a total waste of time.

I used to visit this place long time ago when I was still in the college. It was small and in a poor condition and there were no houses in the surrounding. But now it's licensed by the UNESCO as world's heritage, this place was turned into a very big beautiful modern museum with Air Condition. But the village is getting full with houses and the fields area of the excavations is smaller. Besides this museum, there are 3 other cluster prehistoric museum in the area. Very educative. If you have time when you visit Solo, Make a short stop at this place. Unfortunately it's not suitable for wheelchair.

I came here in maybe 5-6 years ago, I didn't get any impression. But then I came here again after I joint an international class about human origins history, I found this museum is so dazzling with the richness of information about what happened with the human history in Java million-million years ago.
I realized that with the information about this valuable place can change my mind so much.
This place should be known for its wealth, not only about human history in Java but also in this world.
You will not only learn about history but also find out that human is the most complicated yet blessed creature on earth that can life survived for a very long time.
On the other hand, this museum also surrounded by 4 other museums and some important sites about the excavation of the fossil, you will maybe want to know about the other hidden gems. I know a lot about this place because my thesis takes place in here.

This was a fascinating and first-class museum. We learned a great deal more about Java Man than we knew before (as young boy, pre-Leakey discoveries, this was the closest link to man found to date).

We spent a half day there, which is hardly enough to see it all, but more that enough to exhaust one mentally, if you are really absorbing the science being displayed. Certainly a quicker visit focusing on the well-executed (and anatomically correct) dioramas would be great for families and those with more general interest.

It exceeded our expectations, and we were glad we went.

ソロバラパン駅からタクシーを使って行きましたが、訪れる観光客は数える程度、ガイドブックに載っていたので、訪れましたが、今ひとつ。正直な感想ですが、タクシーを使ってまで行くところではないと思います。

if you have kids that started to learn about history in school, then you should take him/her to sangirm museum. they will learn and watch from real fossil. not just from text book and internet.

indonesian should proud about sangiran site because how easy it is to find fossil here (you can read how its possible from the museum).

its located a little bit far from the city but now there is a toll road. so rent a car is a best option. because this new toll road, its only 1 hour drive from semarang airport, and 4 hour drive from surabaya airport

It’s good to see that this museum has reopened after a lengthy renovation. I have been coming here for 40 years and it’s just as fascinating as in the early days. For me, the highlights are the fossils. It must have been an amazing place all those millions of years ago.
There are a lot of stalls near the entrance selling a lot of trinkets, but, if you look closely, some of them have some really interesting fossils at very reasonable prices. Some also have fakes as well, but they are fairly easy to spot.
If you are catching the train up from Jogjakarta for the day then book your train tickets ahead of time as there are long lines and waiting times and they sell out quickly.
