...colorful. Eerily devoid of people for some reason. Actually went a few miles out of my way from Fairfield to Monterey to see these garish statues. I'm fairly certain they tell the story of the Buddha's life. It would've been nice to have had some descriptions to read what is what though. I don't know, I bowed a couple times to a few of the statues, but I didn't feel it like I usually do when I visit a temple. Maybe some incense would have helped.

My wife and I stopped in the middle of August and found this temple to be absolutely facinating. Who would have guessed that instead of going to India, you could see the same devotion and love right in Stockton. The people are extremely friendly and the statues are out of this world. You will love visiting as much as we did!

We happened to visit in the early afternoon of a very sunny and hot day in June... over 100 F temperature. This limited our ability to spend time at each of the spectacular sculpted scenes from the life of Buddha. We walked relatively quickly, snapped fewer photos than we wanted to... basically to move into shade.

OK, given this limitation, we feel this place is a "must revisit" place, in better climatic conditions (winter months, early or late hours).

The sculptures are designed to tell the life story of Buddha, especially the part of his life when he -- riding in his chariot as a privileged prince -- sees suffering, destitution and death. This leads him to renounce all the worldly goods, crop his hair,, and engage in deep, long, intense meditation ... until he gains divine knowledge and divinity. Then, a changed person... well really, as a representation of the divine, he engages in spreading the message of peace and love for all.

Various sculpted scenes show all these.

Unfortunately, all the explanations are in the Cambodian language.

[Given all the resources the creators have employed here, we are a bit puzzled as to why they would not create explanation plaques in English also.]

So, and the temple website recommends it, one should print an explanation of the sculptures, and take the document along.

Do visit this place folks... it will transport you to an exotic Asian-Divine world that you will not find easily outside of Asia.

We visited for the Cambodian New Years Celebration. Although we are locals we didn’t know this place existed. The grounds are huge. Visitors are allowed to enter the temple and since the celebration was going on, the place was packed. Outside you will see statues telling the story of Sidhartha. There is a reclining Buddha that is 50 feet long, seated Buhhas, and standing Buddha’s, all colorfully painted. If you attend the New Years Celebration, there are gift kiosks and a multitude of food centers offering delicious Cambodian food. There were thousands of people in attendance when we went but the parking area was huge. Parking and entry are free. We will definitely return.

I went to a Cambodian Festival here in April. It was very interesting to see the way people were dressed and to eat the food that was presented. We spent a couple of hours here and really enjoyed it. The food was tasty and not too expensive.

We visited the temple for the Cambodian New Year festival. We had a Cambodian neighbor as our guide and met some of the business owner who had booths there and also met some of the monks from the temple. Each time we go there is a new addition. A HUGE FREE PARKING LOT MAKES ACCESS EASY. There are more beautiful Buddhist statues in the area around the temple itself each year. There were too many booths to count, selling food, clothing, music, religious items, gifts, etc. There was also a band playing with many people dancing in front of the stage. There were people of all ages in attendance and it resembled more of a huge family party, as so many people knew each other. Overall it was a great cultural experience and not really all that different from a small community fair like the ones I attended as a child. There were a large number of people there, but it was comfortable even in a large crowd. They were happy and respectful of others. I will go back next year. If you cannot make a trip to Indo China, this may be the next best thing.

The statues are gorgeous and so well done. The inside of the temple is amazing and the people are so genuine and kind.

We were obviously outsiders and they came and took my hand and invited me to sit with them. They offered us water and sat with us and explained the ceremony.

I can honestly say that my heart has never been so touched by completed strangers.

Definitely worth making a detour to see this wonderful place!!

Well it was the Cambodian New Year Festival and jam packed with people. But those brightly colored giant sized Buddhas were kind of awesome in a cartoon kind of way. Worth a visit.

The Buddhist temple is out of the way but well worth finding. The gardens are filled with enormous sculptures of the life of Buddha created painstakingly out of cement. They are AMAZING. They have a fun festival as well but it is almost impossible to find parking. Go early.
