We had a great experience today on board the Elusive. Captain Michelle educated us on the impact of climate change around the local area, oyster and mussel farming within the bay.
While out at sea, Maureen taught our daughter sailing knots and the importance behind them.
A really lovely tour with 2 very experienced sailors in an amazing location.

POSITIVE
We spent 45 minutes of the 3 hour tour, touring around the bay enjoying a very interesting educational tour re local oyster farming. Maureen clearly knew her stuff and we learned a lot.
When we ventured out to the ocean area, waves/swells were quite big. Some people started to feel seasick. Maureen was amazing at helping people through that. No one actually threw up!
It was also very evident Maureen was a very experienced sailor. Felt very confident with her.
NEGATIVE
Within 10 minutes of leaving the dock, the owner/captain, Michelle, told us we wouldn’t be seeing much sea-life, such as whales, dolphins and porpoises, as we were coming pretty much during off season! We were then told best time to come is mid July.
Also when we asked, some 20 minutes later, if sailing vs loud motoring, was going to happen, we were told, “maybe”. Apparently winds weren’t great.
We had booked this tour based on seeing sea life and sailing, only to be told ….probably neither was happening.
At this point, I would have assumed people trying to make a living off of their “tourist” offering, would have offered a refund or at minimum a rebooking option.
But that didn’t happen. Instead we headed out on the tour in the bay, which was very educational, and then out to the ocean.
Once out in the ocean, we saw the bobbing head of ONE seal; the sail was put up after about 1/2 hour out, and then taken down again about 1/2 an hour later, when no wind was to be found.
So no sea life and no sailing; gas engine for pretty much the full 3 hours.
We had 8 passengers, and large swells, no one could move about. So a few of us were stuck sitting beside the gas engine, which also emitted strong gas fumes, for entire trip.
And small point, given above, while there was mention on the website of complimentary beverages on board…nothing offered.

Maybe there is a reason there are so few sailing excursions on PEI!
We were super disappointed in our experience.
I cannot recommend this tour.

Overall the experience was nice. Captain Michelle is experienced and friendly. Her co-mate Maureen is also a wealth of knowledge. Our day was party cloudy and breezy, but not the right conditions to sale so we motored. The website notes quite eco electric drive, no noisy boat engine when sailing. Unfortunately we had the motor going the entire time and it appeared to be gas powered. Noisy. As we started our journey back, I asked if the sail would go up. Michelle noted not this time. I would have liked her to make that statement earlier to keep us informed and align expectations.

We thoroughly enjoyed this sailboat tour! Captain Michelle gave us our basic safety course and then led us on a very low-key, laid-back tour of the local bay and waters off the shore of PEI's North Rustico-Cavendish National Park. Sharing her knowledge of the area, we learned about some unique features of the island and it's waterways. Although it's a small vessel, with only 7 passengers aboard it was a comfortable cruise and there was flexibility in seating so we could vary our vantage point throughout the trip. This was fun as we also got to know a few of the other passengers. If we wanted to assist in raising and or lowering the sails when needed we could. Since the motor was relatively quiet and we were under sail much of the trip, it was an incredibly serene and relaxing experience. Although I don't know much about sailing myself, she gave us a quick how to about sailing with the wind at our backs and the wind in our faces. So fascinating!
We were new to PEI and unfamiliar with the area, so we weren't sure about parking. There was an abundance of parking right at the dock and locating her boat was a simple task.

A lovely boat tour out on the Atlantic!
Part of tour, took us out to the Mackerel Bed where whales come out to feed.
Excellent views.
Captain Michelle and hostess Monika were friendly and provided great information about PEI throughout the tour, including oyster and lobster farming as well as interesting facts on PEI.

Approach this company with caution. When one of us fell seasick, we tried to cancel and discuss alternate options. However all our emails went to their spam folder. Two days prior, we exchanged 6 mails within 14 hours with this company. Be careful as the level of service you receive may vary wildly.

Well now that is not the full story. You initially booked for a sail and the night before and morning of we were in constant communication with you as we felt we may cancel. We ended up canceling and you chose to rebook the sail for another day on your trip. In fact, we booked off the entire sail so your family would have a private tour. Our cancellation policy is clearly posted on our website. You sent an email and we explained it was not received. Through your own admission you had router issues. You never once called and you knew we were very reachable (as you clearly state above) so wen you didn't hear back, a phone call would be a next step. In the end, we had an empty sailboat and staff sitting waiting at the dock. This was investigated when you complained to your payment channel and even they denied your claim.

We went out sailing in the Atlantic yesterday. The two hosts on the boat were wonderful. We had a wonderful time enjoying the sea without all the engine noise. Very relaxing and interesting learning the lore of the region and the issues causing changes to the industry and the island by global warning.
