We were heading up Boulder Canyon towards Nederland when we saw a bunch of cars parked and the Boulder Falls sign (parked cars mean wildlife, hiking or scenery). Wed been up Boulder Canyon a number of times over the years, but hadn't paid attention to the Falls. We were curious so this time we stopped.
The Falls are accessed via a trail with numerous steps carved into the rocky hillside. There's quite a stream along the trail. Through the trees we could see the Falls. But just barely. The closer we got the more we could see of them. And are they terrific. At the end are the 'real' falls cascading over a rocky area. Lots of water. And lots of white water pouring down the canyon. Quite a few people (summer after all). But well behaved. We stopped and watched the water for awhile. Really nice stop.

This was a great hike to insert into our trip to Colorado.
It was a short hike sandwiched between visits to Garden of the Gods and Rocky Mountain National Park.
You can do the whole hike in an hour.
The entrance was hard to locate; the GPS kept going past it. The parking is along the road and not in a lot. It is free.
Be aware that there is not a flat, paved path going to the falls.
There are several sets of stairs carved into the rock.
The falls are very photogenic.
It was not too crowded on the day we went because it looked like rain.
But, then the sun came out and more people showed up.
There is really only one good spot to pose in front of the falls; everyone jockeys for position.

Easy access. Great scenery of the falls and the creek. A great addition to any trip up Boulder Canyon toward Nederland and beyond. You need to be able to hike the very short trail to the waterfall area.

Short trail leads to nice waterfall. Great to sit nearby, feel the spray, and relax. There were a few people there, but I wouldn't say it was crowded. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

We went to Boulder Falls on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend, so of course it was crowded. We parked on the shoulder of the highway well back from the parking area. The walk along the highway was rather dangerous. The trail to the falls was very crowded, but easily negotiated. The falls were not more or less impressive than other mountain waterfalls I have seen, but they are more accessible than most. We could get quite close to the the base of the falls with a little rock-hopping, but we had to wait our turn.

Lots of steps, but overall a short trail to the falls. Beautiful waterfall, split by a big boulder in the middle. Easy drive from Boulder, and well worth the stop.

Definitely worth a stop. Great in the summer, I can only imagine how impressive it is in the spring when the snow pack is melting. Whole trip up the road to Nederland is worth the trip.

Boulder Falls is a short drive from Boulder and worth the trip. There is parking on both sides of the road. If you need to cross the road, be patient and careful! A moderate short hike takes you to the falls. If the snow pack was good, the falls do not disappoint! We went in late July, and the falls were amazing!!

This seems almost like a secret, but of course it isn't. It is slippery and steep and NOT accessible if you are at all mobility-impaired, although you could stand at the pull-out and enjoy the view. Well worth the trouble.

Is Boulder Falls still closed? On google maps it says 'permanently closed'. Thanks =]
Skrevet 11. april 2015
I drove by there today on our way up to Nederland, Ward and a drive on the Peak to Peak highway, and yes it is still closed and will be for some time to come. There was considerable damage done to in that area and all the way up to Estes Park. They are doing a lot of work, but the damage in some areas was total. There are still adventurous souls that walk by the gates, and up the trail, but that is something I cannot recommend, for obvious reasons. But …. the falls are only one minute portion of the majestic beauty that is all around. The peaks are covered in snow as are the Flatirons ( take the drive up to NCAR to see magnificent vistas). The weather has been in the 60's - 80's for the past few weeks and just unbelievable for hiking and mountain climbing and myriad other outdoor events that Boulder is known for.
