Mt Banahaw is considered to be a holy mountain and is popular among pilgrims to visit this spiritually charged place, It is over 2,000 meters high, and has many sacred springs which the people believe that the water is holy and has healing powers. There are caves, streams and rocks which appear to some people to be holy illusions. Famous for hiking, there are four trails to the top which can take up to 8 hours to climb.

Mountains have always been associated with mysteries, especially in the Filipino culture. They are not only considered as dwelling places of spirits (both benevolent and malign ones), but also as privileged places to communicate with some supreme being. Such is the case of Mount Banahaw, located between the Provinces of Quezon and Laguna on the Island of Luzon (in northern Philippines).
We went there as part of our educational excursion. We wanted to meet and interview a group of Rizalistas ... members of a religious movement who believe in the divinity of our national hero, Jose Rizal. It was a very interesting visit. We had a chance to know more about their movement, its religious tenets, practices, and so forth.
After the encounter with the Rizalistas, we did some trekking up the mountain. Mount Banahaw is 2177 meters high. There are many spots there considered as "holy." Thus we saw many altars built on boulders, religious statues of saints, lit candles, and so forth. Aside from all these, the place was very peaceful and relaxing. It felt good to listen to the sound of Nature and to breathe some fresh air, away from the polluted air of the metropolis.

Not easy to get all the way up there, but if you can endure the 4.5 km climb, you will be rewarded with images of one of the most hard-to-get pittas in the world!!!
There's many good birds to be spotted along the walk and the local guides from BK Mountain Lodge are pretty good and pretty keen on showing you all tge avifauna, while helping you with the thoug walk.

Together with my partner in life, we spent our holy Thursday trekking the Kinabuhayan river up to the mountains of Kalbaryo. The trek is quite steep and high as we need to rest to breath some air. As we reached the top of the mountain we have seen the beauty of the whole Mt. Banahaw and the nearby town of Dolores in Quezon and San Pablo city of Laguna.

Sweet escape is what I can actually call this trip. Everything is such a wonderful and worth of our time. We had our very precious moment in every area we get, and I can now be proud of my self that I see and feel that place. Very awesome place. :)

Bangkong Kahoy Valley is the gateway to Mt. Banahaw. It was such a sweet escape away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The place is nestled in between two mystical mountains: Mt. Banahaw and Mt. Cristobal. The view is so much amazing, the people are also accommodating. They have this honesty shop and honesty bar where you can find fresh farm produce and that one in a kind Wild Raspberry Lambanog. The road is kinda okay but after Brgy. Kinabuhayan, there's a km stretch of dirt road.

Mt. Banahaw is known as a place of healing. The mouth of Mt. Banahaw is situated in Bangkong Kahoy Valley. I personally recommend to spend some time at the said place as it is such a beautiful view to witness, it feels like you are in another part of the world. Dion Pullan, the owner of the place but prefers to call himself as the caretaker made it such a place worth going to anyone who wants to escape to a cool and quiet retreat. It has an honesty bar that serves Sampinit (Wild Raspberry Lambanog), their food is also organic as the valley has its very own organic farm. Just don't forget to bring your jackets with. Also, you may want to try their activities such as zipline and horseback riding. I personally enjoyed the hanging bridge as the locals said that once you crossed that bridge, you will be in Laguna already and go back to Quezon through Zipline. Truly enjoyable get-away with family!

Mt Banahaw has had a mystical appeal to many generations. It's many rivers, brooks, caves and trails are frequented by many people for spiritual enlightenment or simply as an escape from the rigors of daily life. Some even make the trek to the crater - a good day or two of climbing through deep forests. Definitely worth visiting at least once...or twice.

Maundy Thursday is our time to visit this place. Annually we do it together with the family for an easter bonding. Although we have been here for several times, it still amazed us for the excellent scenery. We never felt tired every climb as the majestic tress, flowers and most of all the greens makes us feel relax.

Hi, I would like to know whether Mt Banahaw, and BK mountain lodge, are still accessible? Does anybody know this? All information seems to stop in 2017...
