A must-see for airplane fans and history buffs
sep. 2021
Any historian or fan of aircraft and other US Air Force memorabilia will enjoy both the variety of the displays, as well as the from many of the volunteers who staff this museum and have first hand experience of of using it during the Cold War and the decades after. Beyond a few very rare aircraft, the displays of the Distant Early Warning system are especially interesting. Also interesting is the art deco style of many of the buildings that make up the museum, a few of which predate the establishment of Peterson as a military base.

If you like planes and history come here

Don't miss a trip to Peterson Air and Space Museum. Military or DOD ID gets you in, but because it is on Peterson AFB, planning and registration either on line or phone call is required ahead of your visit. So many displays to see inside the City Hangar and just walking around the plane park. Families with young children love it too.

Faszinierend
aug. 2019

Small museum, but well done; covers lots of Cold War information; the outside plane exhibits are great!

Good for a few hours
jul. 2019 • Familie
This is a small but nice military museum that is perfect to visit when you have a morning free. I would recommend older children (over 10 or maybe even 12) visit - could be boring for younger. Our guide was very friendly & shared a lot of information not available on the info plaques. I liked that we could get up close & touch many of the exhibits. One of the hangers with exhibits is not available if it gets too hot so try to plan going at cooler times. We only got to tour the one hanger unfortunately. If your not military, get online & request civilian visitor passes ahead of time. Then you can just go right to gate to check in.

Thanks for the great review! The exhibit that was closed due to being too hot was our Lockheed Warning Star Super Constellation aircraft. Your advice to go at cooler times, such as when we first open at 9 am, is absolutely correct. As we move into the fall, the weather is not such a problem of course. Hope to see you again when the weather cooperates and we’ll be able to show you the inside of the Warning Star! Six tons of electronics, no computers, and vacuum tube technology - keeping the country safe against airborne threats!

Great History, Well-Maintained Exhibits
jul. 2019 • Familie
I've visited several museums at Air Force bases across the country, and this museum is truly among the best...just, WOW!

The museum describes the history of NORAD from the Cold War era to today, as well as the history of Peterson AFB. This museum also houses artifacts from World War II and beyond, and it contains some missileer history and artifacts. Overall, the grounds and the exhibits are very well-maintained, and the outdoors portion of the museum is always open for guests. Our daughter especially loved getting to touch some of the amazing aircraft on display!

This is truly a treasure. I'd like to visit again, but next time, we'll definitely ask for a tour guide!

Thanks for the great review! And we definitely recommend taking a tour with one of our docents. Not only do you find out more detail about the exhibits, but the tour itself becomes more “interactive” in the true sense of the word. You can ask questions, share histories, and even get into “war stories”! This makes our museum exhibits real, with real histories behind them, not just static displays with a storyboard in front of them. Thanks again for your review, and we hope to see you soon - for a guided tour!

Get ready for a history lesson!

Lots to learn. If walked alone with no guide, you could see everything in 45min to an hour. Definitely recommend using the guide. Lots of info will be missed if you dont. Be prepared to be there for a couple of hours.

Thank you very much for your review! And your time estimates are right on the mark! While there are many storyboards and plates that explain the exhibits, a tour taken with one of our docents is a more historically enriched experience. We can give a lot more detail on the exhibits, much of it based on the experience of the docents themselves. As an example, some of our docents actually were crew members on our EC-121T Warning Star aircraft. Their depth of knowledge and entertaining “war stories” can turn a museum exhibit into a real aircraft with a real history. And this is true with many of the exhibits, so you’ll never have the same visit experience twice! Thanks again for your review, and hope to see you again soon!

WOW the history here!

We arrived at 1130am and were met by John B, a volunteer guide who took us under his “wing” and gave us an awesome personalized tour. Two hours later are minds were filled with history and our phone had many photos. A MUST for history and airplane buffs.

Thank you for your review! John is a great guide, and I’m sure he “colored in” your tour by telling you several tales from his personal experiences during his many years in the Air Force. I’ll certainly pass along your compliments to John, and we’re very glad that you enjoyed your time with us!

Fantastic Choice for Aviation Enthusiast
jan. 2019 • Alene
Great museum that primarily highlights the contribution/history of NORAD in the defense of North America. Museum exhibits cover the entire Cold War era through today's modern jets. The small entrance building is a historical building from the 1930 and features items from the development of Peterson Field and War World 2. Make sure to visit during the week as docents aren't available to open up the 1920 era wooden hanger which houses fascinating display including a Republic P-47N fighter, Peacekeeper missile crew trainer and Minuteman Missile warhead. The outside display is open 24/7 and features every Cold War era US and Canadian Air Force jet interceptor. The Lockheed EC-121 dominates the display area. 3 Canadian AF fighter, CF-100, F-101 Voodoo and a CF-188 Hornet are rare examples displayed in the US and worth the visit.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed review...much appreciated! Our current winter hours are Tuesday thru Friday, 10 am to 3 pm, when tours are available through all the exhibits. The hours will expand when we “spring forward” in March. Hours, access information and photos are all available at our web site petemuseum.org

Museum staff were extremely knowledgeable and provided great history and conversation. The aircraft static displays are the best.
