This park has some pretty steep and rugged trails, as well as gorgeous scenery. But parking is very limited, especially at popular trailheads, so get there early if you go.

Wonderful, low-key park. Parking along the road can be tight/scarce, but well worth it. The Starsmore house had lots of hummingbirds out back, and the Helen Hunt Falls were lovely. I didn't try the other nearby falls due to the whole "park and ride" rigmarole.

Have visited Colorado Springs several times in my lifetime, yet this was the first time visiting this park! We loved it. Went on a weekday over spring break, and we arrived early. We nearly had the park to ourselves. So peaceful, and away from the city noise. Much preferred over Garden of the Gods area.

Wanted to get out and about but because I've been having issues with my piriformis, didn't want to overdue it. My husband found this trail that is not strenuous and runs along the creek. It was perfect and beautiful. Even though I lived in the Springs for 3 years when I first moved to Colorado and did a lot of hiking around here, I'd never been to the Starsmore Discovery Center nor the trails that you can start at from here. I'd heard of the Starsmore just never made it over there. The visitor/discovery center is in an historic house that was actually moved there. It's a beautiful place from which to start. When we came back, we stopped at the creek and got our feet wet. Perfect if you have little kids or just want something nice but not too long or too strenuous.

Our group of 11 consisted of two around 50yrs, two around 30yrs, a teenager, and 6 children (ages 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 1). The one-year-old was in a hiking carrier. We hiked to the top of the trail. The views on the way up & down were beautiful, and so was the view at the top. Afterwards, we hiked on a trail to a picnic area to have our lunch. This is a beautiful place to hike!

We went here on a spur of the moment impulse and went back again the next day. There are may well marked trails; some are easy and others a little more challenging. The folks at the visitor center were really helpful and friendly. We did the Columbine trail the first day and then drove up to the top of the park to see the falls the next. If you want to see the Helen Hunt falls, drive up there and then walk around: don’t hike up there from the bottom. Terrific scenery and very quiet. I’ll definitely return to see other trails.

We came to this free “park” to do some easy hiking and this was just great. Clean. Helpful volunteers and easy to navigate. Bring water and maybe even a lunch to eat on your way.

Having this canyon in our city is amazing--there are a ton of hikes and the views are incredible. You can't go wrong with any hike in the park!

Are there any hiking trails that are wide enough for a double stroller? it's made for off roading but about the size of a wheel chair.

Colorado Springs, CO18 bidrag
I can't think of any that are specifically made to fit a double stroller in the Canyon. However, there is another park on the west side of Colorado Springs that is called Red Rocks, It is a beautiful park and has several very wide trails going through it. Also, in the Garden of the Gods, there are several paved trails that will accomodate a double wide stroller.

Are dogs allowed in the park?

Yes, dogs are allowed. There is some areas that require they be leashed, and you will want be sure you watch them when you are near the very winding roads that have many blind spots for drivers.

Does the entrance have any cost? Is it possible to do basic cycling?
DiAnna_7545
Colorado Springs, CO130 bidrag
This is a free park. I suppose you COULD do cycling there but as a local, I'd prefer that you don't.Hiking paths are narrow and you'd be stirring up dirt. For cycling, I go to Ute Valley Park. Challenging trails and much wider.

Is there a place where thousands of hummingbirds gather near a restaurant? I heard tell of such a place , but not exact info about the name of the town or restaurant. Help!

Hi,
Well, there is a restaurant and gift shop lodging place on the road to My. Evans. It's along a lake. Sorry, cantvrememver the name right off. But as you sit to eat along the window you will find hummingbirds eating from the feeders. You'll see dozens to many more depending on the season. If you scroll through my reviews about My. Evans or the lodge you'll find the name.
Hope it helps a bit.

Good Evening,
I see the visitor and nature centers are closed for the season. Is there any other place to obtain a map that outlines trails? Thanks.

You can find maps on the internet and the park is not that big. There is one road through it and trails on either side of the canyon. Hard to get lost.

If you go to Trails in North Cheyenne Canon Park the website has a map with all the trails and trailheads as well as info on hiking/biking in bear and mountain lion country...good information to know!
Happy hiking.

Are there places kids can climb on rocks, or is it more trails with pretty views?
Tom G
Twin Oaks, Missouri, United States52 bidrag
There are quite a number of trails with a variety of difficulty. The park is not simply a kid's playground type affair and small kid's might have difficulty with the slope of some trails. That said, we did have my grandson with us (age 3) and he spent most of the time on my son's back. While not a place with dangerous drop offs (e.g. Grand Canyon hiking trails) one does need to exercise some good judgement here. If you are looking for more of a "kids on rocks" place try Red Rocks...very scenic and less of a challenge for them.
