Beautiful Falls

The falls were amazing and right across from the parking lot. Just a short hike down to the bottom and you can even explore around the top of the falls. Definitely worth the drive.

Cascading Waterfalls

It is worth a trip to Devil's Hopyard State Park simply to see the lovely cascading Chapman Falls. After entering the park turn at the sign for Chapman Falls and park in the lot. Across the road and just a few steps down through the woods one will find the delightful falls.

Beautiful falls

Just park your car and cross the road to this beautiful waterfall(chapman Falls). We went here on a rainy day, so worth the drive.

Parking lot closed for the season, but trails well marked

Beautiful time of the year to see the falls. The trails are well marked and some easier than others, but worth the walk.

The park has plenty of trails for people of all levels. There are forest, hiking and view trails in addition to fishing, camping and picnicking...and seeing beautiful waterfalls. We liked the two mile Millington Trail Loop which I'm told is considered to be a moderate hike.

Pretty river/rough walking.

Caplan Falls were flowing nicely on what started as a warm, sunny Sunday (and ended in a snow squall). One may access the waterfall from the top or bottom parking areas via a very short walk on easy, well maintained trials. Most of the other trails are a test for anyone with bad joints, with a fair amount of up and down and near universal roots and jagged rocks making for rough walking. The river below the falls is beautiful, too, and there were many fly fishermen, although I saw no trout in the very clear water. Most hikers had dogs, all on leashes. be aware that your GPS may send you on a dirt road to get here.

Spectacular Falls in Fall

The trails may be a little rocky, and in some spots steep, but the yellows and oranges kept the beauty ablaze!!
It was unseasonably warm today, so there were many people about— Notable in that this place is not on a main drag, it clearly takes some driving on numerous hidden back roads to get here. However, it was well worth the ride
I enjoy the hiking, so the state park is well worth the miles and miles of trails through the hills you could take. If you’re just there to see the falls, for the less adventurous, you could park at the side of the road and look over the fence to see them— breathtakingly gorgeous! Or park, and walk for hours. Lots and lots of places to picnic, and Porta potties are available near the parking areas. There’s also a campsite for those who intend to stay.
For me, the only part that was somewhat disappointing, is there is no monument or homage paid to the historic significance of the area. I would like to have had the exact location of the mill, or of the Battle with the British indicated somewhere.
Still, a lovely place to land

Campground no rangers high school parties

Campground review. No rangers. Underage drinking all night. Could be nice but no rangers like other CT campgrounds. After 10pm the music is louder and the teenagers are drunker. Glad my young kids didn’t come. Waterfall is beautiful. Without supervision people ruin everything. I see why this campground is always on the budget cut lists. Same party scene as hammonasset but knowone stops it here. Leaving first thing in morning not staying a second night.

Waterfall is beautiful

The water was flowing - which made the waterfall spectacular. After visiting the waterfall we chose to hike within the park. We chose the orange trail as I wanted to see Devils Oven. Great hike a little bit of everything. Walk along the river, rock scrambling, forest and a scenic view.
