Living in the mountains most of our lives, we are used to being surrounded by corn or rice fields and grew fond of delicacies made out of. As I aged, continuously wanting to learn more of our culture, my interests were changing gradually, later finding out that here in the northern provinces of the Philippines, we are also producing wines.
Ryan & Son's Winery is definitely one chill place where you could enjoy with your friends, family, or even solo. My parents are fond of plants & animals, and one of the owners, Mrs. Ryan, is very much accommodating, patiently discussing the details that would peak their guests' interests, leading to us buying a combination.
Going back to the wines, the missus introduced us to their wine products. I, personally, am not a wine type gal, but I could attest that basing from how I have tasted selections of wines before, this one is kinda good. We didn't taste everything, just the sweet (not dry) one.
If G**gle maps or any navigation apps would confuse you of the directions when you're new to the area, just ask the locals around. It's easily accessible, less muddy parts of the road.
PS. I suggest you use an SUV type with big [wheel] rims.
PPS. We met another cutiepaw [pun intended] who was very malambing. 🐾

The art of wine making is not quite a Filipino kind of thing. We have ignored locally made wine because they never measure up to foreign made wine and they are never consistent. To find wine that is scientifically processed with consistent quality hidden in the rice fields of Bulanao, Tabuk, Kalinga is a pleasant surprise. In this instance, wine made from a local fruit, bugnay. For garden lovers, wine tasting at the Ryan and Sons Winery is a visual and delightful treat with Corazon Kub-ao Ryan's story telling. Not just a history of how the family adventure in fisheries but also the healthy benefits of bugnay wine. Proudly made in Kalinga, taste the wine and take some home to share. This is a must do and see when you go to Tabuk.

"Ryan & Sons" Bugnay wine! We discovered it to be a surprisingly solid and pleasant plonk while travelling across Luzon.
So how fortuitous when we stumbled across Ryan's Farm with their accompanying vineyard, just outside Tabuk. Enjoy the opportunity to visit this unique and out of the way tropical vineyard, especially with the generous hospitality of Corazon Kubao Ryan, the Proprietress.
What is it? Made from the Bugnay berry, an indigenous tree fruit a bit like black currants (not sweet like mulberries), and carrying a large pit. Adapts well to a pleasant robust red berry wine (not a sweet dessert wine).
Corazon, biologist by background, and her team at Ryan’s have spent 15 years mastering crushing methods as well as the best imported yeasts and barrels for bugnay fermentation. They’re onto some winning recipes!
We tasted the dry, medium dry (my wife’s preference), and medium sweet (my choice) varieties for this year’s harvest and came away very happy with a mixed case of 6. Also threw in some bugnay cordial (resembles Ribena) and some vinegar for cooking.
Corazon entertained us in her lovely garden, and gave us a tour of the periphery of her 1 hectare vineyard/farm. All quite delightful and unique.
Location: About 5km from Tabuk on the Kalinga- Tabuk Road. Look for the small “Ryan’s Farm” sign on the left.
Call in advance: 0916 755 7078.
