This English heritage castle is a 10 minutes drive from Shrewsbury in the peaceful village of Moreton Corbet.
It is a mixture of Elizabethan and medieval buildings and is as ruins go in relatively good condition.
A nice place to walk the dog, take a picnic or have a look.
There is a layby style car park directly outside(free) and admission is free also.... Be careful as when wet, parts are slippery.

Great free of charge place for an hour or two with the family. Dogs are welcome. Have a run around, and take a picnic.
It is a fascinating historical site comprising a mix of medieval and Elizabethan architecture. The ruins include the remains of a 13th-century castle and a grand Elizabethan house.

The site consists of a ruined medieval castle and Elizabethan-era manor house, so two sites in one! Damaged during the English Civil War, the surviving ruins of the walls are pock-marked from musket shots. Fun for kids to run around, while taking in the long history of the site. The church is also worth a look, as it houses members of the family who built the house. The site is Free, with a small car park, near the church. Open Daylight hours.

Not been to this one before looks like a ruined manor house with the remains of a castle.
Nice for a picnic in good weather where the children can play hide and seek.
Free parking off the road.

Accessed down a narrow rural lane with a small car park just by its entrance – there are no facilities on site apart from information boards that describe the history of the ruined structures – the site dates from 1086 and there have been many changes mostly notably during 13th and 16th centuries – and then much of the buildings were destroyed during the English Civil War – despite this destruction the remaining mixture of Medieval and Elizabethan architecture is impressive – and on a sunny day set within the Shropshire countryside it is the perfect place for a visit and wander through the grounds – thank you

Upon arrival we were met by screaming kids running amok. Chasing each other, hiding, and climbing all over the ruin. Teenagers alike were throwing stuff down the pit in the modern side of it.
It’s a lovey grand place but completely ruined by people being totally disrespectful to its history.
Would make an ideal place for keen photographers but to when it’s freezing cold instead.

We visited here on a Friday morning, it was quiet, only a few people about. Interesting castle ruins to see with some information boards here too. There's a layby for cars to park. Castle and car park were free. We spent about 20 minutes here.

I ventured out here very early on a Sunday morning to hopefully get some photographs before the crowds arrived. Needless to say, despite my early arrival, there was already what seemed to be a mother's meeting going inside the castle grounds. This was complimented by hoards of kids climbing all over the walls with the sanction of their "parents" and no regard for safety or respect for the monument. Millenial parents I guess, who don't won't to know until their offspring is injured, then it's someone else's fault! Luckily, there was no problem with dog mess, at least I didn't encounter any.
Rant over. The ruins are a lovely mix of medieval, Tudor and Elizabethan. Very picturesque and I can't recommend enough that photographers visit here. As ruins go, all of the buildings are essentially just walls, although some do have interesting carvings on them. Inside the Elizabethan part are some steps. These lead down to an underground crypt or storage area, Some have claimed there is a ghost here! Well, I took a photo of the room - take a look and make your own mind up.....?
There are the remains of the Tudor gatehouse, Elizebthan kitchen and the manor house.
Parking - again you have to park in what is essentially a layby right next to the castle. There's enough room for 6 -7 cars and it's free! By the way, entrance to the castle is free also.
Worth a visit? If you're into photography - definitely! Casual visitor - only if passing. Mothers meeting - NO, go somewhere else and let visitors enjoy it in peace.

Visited this site on a Sunday which happened to be the last day before the new government restrictions of gatherings of more than 6 people came into place. Driving towards the site I could see that what remained of the castle was picturesque. However, upon entering the site what I saw was not picturesque and was a scene I would expect to find in cut price holiday camp. It was clear that at least 4 or 5 large family gatherings were taking place with their children running amok. Children climbing on walls, hanging off the side of the detailed stone carvings whilst adults watched on and then joined them. I have never seen such disrespect for a historic building and if you are one of those families you should be ashamed. English Heritage you encourage children 'to explore the nooks and crannies' of this castle on your website. However I'm sure treating a castle like a leisure centre climbing wall is not what you meant. Membership is not cheap and I pay you money so that historic buildings are preserved. I would suggest that you might save money in the long run by installing a steward at this property or even charging a nominal entry fee as the damage done by idiotic children and their 'appropriate adults' will inevitably cost you thousands in repair to preserve the beautiful stonework for future generations. However you may decide not to bother if you have seen how future generations treat this site. To summarise the castle walls are the most beautiful I have seen with intricate carvings and griffins and definitely worth a visit but try and plan your trip when you are not interrupting party time.
