Nemours is often overlooked in favor of Winterthur. It should not be. Friends and I added a tour of Nemours to a mid-week jaunt to Delaware and are so glad we did. The grounds and 70+room mansion were decked out for the holidays. Winterthur is a museum. Nemours is a home. Start with the tram ride through the estate then enjoy the self guided house tour. Friendly guides are stationed throughout the house to answer questions or share bits of information about the family. It was a lovely experience.

First visit while in Wilmington, glad I visited the duPont estate. The grounds and mansion were very nice which reminded me of being in France. The interior of the mansion was nice especially with the information that was provided by the estate guides working inside. There were multiple people on each floor who provided some good insight and information about their areas which helped you understand what you were viewing. A walk around the park grounds was nice and relaxing. I would come back if every in Wilmington again.

Touring this estate was truly fascinating. The grounds were well maintained and even though it was the end of the growing season, we were surprised at the lush flower displays. The mansion itself was breathtaking and meeting informed and friendly docents made the visit memorable.From the women in the ticket booth to other staff, all were very welcoming. Only one hiccup -- we had trouble finding Nemours Mansion. I know that directions said that it was on the grounds of the Childrens Hospital, but we didn't see a sign on the road for the mansion. Glad we didn't give up locating it.

How the rich people used to live…I suppose there are still plenty of wealthy people with big estates and lots of servants, but older mansions and grounds like the Nemours Estate are pretty amazing. The house is beautiful, and nearly all of it is open on the self-guided tour. There are docents in each room (of which there are many), and they all were friendly and very knowledgeable. So much beautiful artwork, antique (as in centuries old) furnishings; lots of family photos and interesting history. The grounds go on forever, it seems—acres of lawn, fountains, formal gardens, walkways, statuary. Be prepared to walk a lot. Just getting from the entrance gate to the mansion is a hike, but under a beautiful avenue of mature trees. (Warm weather note: We were given free bottles of chilled water at the entry. You’ll be happy to have it.)

Nemours Estate is a wonderful glimpse into the lifestyle of the Gilded Age! The mansion is dazzling, with a grand staircase, elegant furniture and artwork, and a surprise or two…like the private bowling alley in the basement! The gardens are very grand, with fountains, statues, and a colonnade, recalling the chateaus of Europe. You can go on a mini bus tour around the gardens, narrated with interesting information from the driver. The staff at Nemours are some of the friendliest I have encountered at any historic site, welcoming you with smiles and offering helpful commentary on the mansion and the DuPont family. There is a small, cute gift shop as well (which offered free bottled water to visitors on the hot day I was there!).

This mansion that belonged to the DuPont family was absolutely incredible. Each room of the mansion had a docent to help give information specific to the room and to answer any general questions. This house had every bell and whistle and was gorgeous inside and out. The grounds were impeccably maintained and were so beautiful. If we had time we would have hopped on the little tram that took you around the Estate with some more information on the rest of it. Highly recommend that.

I visited the Nemours Estate on July 4, 2023 (yesterday) and I could not wait to write this review. Yes, this place is "all that and a bag of chips". So...just go. You step onto the grounds and your blood pressure is lowered immediately. I was there for 4 hours. I would have stayed longer, but I had a train to catch.
Three observations: 1). The only "downside" of the visit is that you can see the hospital from the grounds. (Yes, I'm quibbling!!!). I just wish that the hospital was built lower OR that trees could completely block the hospital from view. 2). Do the shuttle tour around the grounds first and then walk around the grounds. The shuttle tour gives you a GREAT perspective. 3). I give the Estate *high* marks for the deluxe portable toilets on the grounds.

We went midweek and it was not crowded at all. We loved this estate due to its history and beautiful ambiance. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable! Don’t forget to see all the gardens on the property. Best to take the free shuttle tour on the grounds first so you can get aquatinted with the estate.
There are No restaurants or snack shops on the estate so pack a lunch and eat in the gardens. There are free lockers when you enter the estate so you can store your drinks, food and other items.
Enjoy! Make a day out of it.

Hello, sorry we missed your question. We recently reduced our admission to $12, which includes the 200-acres of gardens, the first floor of the Mansion, and the Chauffeur's Garage.
We do not currently offer a gardens-only day pass.

Hello, we do require masks inside the Mansion, Chauffeur’s Garage, and restrooms. Masks are only required outdoors when in close proximity to other guests or our staff.

Hello we open tomorrow (May 1st) and offer guided highlight tours throughout the day at 11, 1, 2, 3. These max out at 12 people and are on a first come first served basis.

The tours are included in the price and if you would like to take the Garden tour on the shuttle too, it’s also included. Everyone MUST take their shuttles inside the property and out too. I would plan on at least 2-3 hours especially if the weather is good. Hope that this was helpful.
