Church holiday
sep. 2021
Visited with a group from church of 33. Beautiful day in excellent gardens. Plenty of resting spots and seating for snacks. Could have spent longer. Ideal for families.

Lovely relaxing day out in September
sep. 2021 • Par
We had a lovely day out here enjoying the fresh air and freedom to stroll through the gardens on a warm Autumn day in late September. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. There were plenty of signs explaining that the garden was not as well kept / weeded due to the Covid situation and there were beds in various stages if clearing or planting.

That gave the place an element of surprise - there were garden ‘rooms’ to be discovered, certain paths were closed due to maintenance work which meant we meandered more and strolled around to find other routes to get to places!

There were plenty of places to sit and relax and enjoy the view and people watch. The cafe adjoining the house was open and quite busy. The house itself is closed.

Some garden areas looking very sad!
sep. 2021 • Par
Popped in here on way to stay with family in Cardiff. The website did warn visitors that some areas of garden not open which was useful to manage our expectations.
Welcoming team very friendly and helpful. Decided to start visit with coffee. Staff need some customer service training as did not greet me or any other customers and then chatted amongst themselves whilst preparing coffees etc - found this pretty rude. The cafe is pretty grim inside in some ghastly shed type building with nasty lighting and of v poor construction.
The gardens are in part lovely but they certainly have suffered from the NTs very short sighted furloughing of so many gardeners - what were they thinking! The weeds have overrun some areas - the vegetable gardeners must have cried when they saw the mess there and they seem to be overwhelmed still. The glasshouse was superb though.
Did enjoy our visit but seemed to be a slight air of despondency and tbh only saw 3 gardeners on the whole site! No volunteer gardeners.

Needs more love
sep. 2021 • Par
Was very disappointed in how the house and gardens have been, for want of a better word, neglected. All the signs blamed covid but it was blatantly obvious in some places that they had not had much care well before covid started. Saying that there are some gorgeous colours with all the flowers and there is a lot of room for kids to run around or people to have a picnic but it could be so much more.

Pleasant surroundings
sep. 2021
We visited the gardens recently, The location is lovely but sadly due to Covid some of the gardens seemed a bit run down. I imagine once things start to get more back to normal the gardens will all look lovely again. It is still a nice place to visit but at the moment it just lacks the wow factor.
My grandson loved the Log Stack play area & it kept him occupied for quite a while. It is also a nice place to walk a dog. There is a cafe area by the house & a nice terrace that overlooks the main part of the gardens. A lovely place to sit & enjoy a coffee on a sunny day. I would rate Dyffryn Gardens as gooy but not very good on this visit.

We will be back!
sep. 2021 • Familie
We visited with two 5 year olds whist in the area. If you haven’t been, I’d thoroughly recommend it. My girls spent hours in the big play area towards the back of the grounds, it’s made entirely out of felled trees. They all interconnect so you can climb, balance, crawl, shuffle, jump, hop along them without touching the ground. It also had a WC close by. They also loved all of the water features and we saw water boatmen, different dragonflies and damselflies, water snails, water lilies and more! It’s pretty flat too with lots of paths so great for wheelchair users and buggies. There’s so much to see, will definitely be back.
There’s another smaller play area at the very front by the carpark.
It also has one EV charging point in the carpark.

Tired and unloved
aug. 2021 • Par
The gardens on the whole are looking tired and unloved. We’re local, and last visited a couple of months ago when things were looking good and well tended. I know a lot of volunteers have left - Dyffryn’s choice, not the volunteers’ - and it’s beginning to show. Such a shame as this is a beautiful place. The entrance area looks very scruffy, with the children’s playground made much smaller. And still no refreshments available here, meaning that locals can’t visit the cafe and shop without paying the entrance fee. A very strange decision as this cafe was always very popular and busy. We’ve been to a few NT properties in other parts of the country since lockdown and they’re all looking good. Our visit to Dyffryn was a disappointing one.

A peaceful day out
jul. 2021
A beautiful place to visit which I have done on many occasions. A little disappointed yesterday however. The admission prices had been increased but places such as the glass houses were closed even though the directions given in the gardens suggested they were open and we followed them. There was no indication on booking or on entry that they were closed or that they were reopening at the weekend to allow us to change our day of visit. In saying this nothing distracts from the wonderful gardens and flowers and the work that is going on to improve Dyffryn for the future.
