My wife and I took the opportunity of a short-notice trip to enhance our sailing skills and gain ASA 114 certification. We joined Capt. Perry and other students and sailed through the glorious Florida Keys and Biscayne Bay on a five day cruise. Beautiful sunsets and dolphins every day.
We could not have asked for a more immersive and informative trip. Capt. Perry is not only a tremendously experienced sailor but has excellent teaching skills, which he uses in a calm and humorous manner. He's a pretty good cook too!
If you're looking to undertake your Catamaran Cruising certification course out of Miami you'll be hard-pressed to find a better all-round experience.

My girlfriend and I used Island Dreamer Sailing to take our ASA 101,103 & 104 courses, and had the absolute best time! While I had previously used another sailing school to obtain my ASA 101, I was searching for the “couples teaching couples” experience, and Island Dreamer exceeded my expectations.
Over a period of four days three nights, I was successfully achieved my ASA 103 & 104, while my girlfriend achieved her 101 & 103.
As a team, our instructors perfectly balanced their strengths. Captain Nancy worked diligently with us on our ASA skills and knowledge, while first mate (and husband) Paul offered his wisdom and comfort; both ensuring we were developing our skills effectively. They shared their knowledge of sailing, sailboats, and the nature of the Biscayne National Park.
My girlfriend and I recommend Island Dreamer, 100%

My fabulous instructor, Judy, on island dreamer, taught me more about docking, anchoring, and reefing than I even thought there was to know. Thank you, Judy!
Additionally, the menu for the two days was spot on. Light and delicious and just right for sailing and relaxing.
This is not a pleasure cruise (island dreamer has those as well) and you get the real feel for what it’s like to live aboard a boat and tend to all the needs a such a boat.
I would recommend this class for anyone looking for the real experience.

I have purposely held off on writing this review, for good reason. I wanted to test the skills learned with Captain Jamey.
As mentioned by others, Captain Jamey's culinary skills are beyond the skills of my mother, the best cook I know... However, I wasn't there to eat, I was there to learn to safely sail a group of 10 people through the Greek Isles.
We took 3 days around the keys to get trained on how to safely operate a charter boat. I have a decent amount of racing experience in the Great Lakes, and have been the Bowman on a 40' race boat that consistently places 3rd in the Port Huron to Mackinac race. While I have many days racing under my belt, I haven't been responsible for a whole crew on a cruise before. I needed to get a handle on how to safely charter.
Captain Jamey asked early on, "what are your concerns, and what do you think you need to work on?" My response, "I want to leave port with 10 people, and come back with 10 people." We worked through many exercises, such as MOB drills, what to do in disaster situations, and how to safely navigate coastal waters when all electronics are kaput.
I have chartered 3 different boats since going out with Captain Jamey, and most recently, started training on Catamarans. I received ASA 114 certification in San Diego last week, and I could see the direct knowledge picked up from one of the best teachers I've ever had on a boat. Our group of 10 will be sailing in Greece next week, and I truly can't wait to apply what I learned from Captain Jamey.
I feel comfortable and confident that we will leave port with 10, and come back with 10.
Thank you Captain Jamey, for your wonderful hospitality aboard that lovely Morgan.
p.s. The negative review below might possibly be from a family that should never have thought about sailing... It takes teamwork to operate a boat, and when there is lack of harmony between family members learning to sail, no one will be happy.

We spent a week doing the live aboard ASA Bareboat course with captain Jamey in April for my 50th birthday and had a great time. The weather wasn't co operating but that was no ones fault and we didn't let it spoil our trip.
Because of the weather, we couldn't leave the first day but we were docked at a great marina slot and had more time to explore Key west which is a great town.
The boat was Clean and comfortable and Captain Jamey cooked up some great dinners every night which we were very happy with. The paddle boards were great too!
We both found Captain Jamey to be very helpful with the course material/ instruction and we learnt a lot compared to the previous US sailing instructors we had taken for basic keelboat and basic cruising in a class environment.
We Both found Captain Jamey to be friendly, laid-back, helpful and serious when it comes to safety and the instruction and would definitely recommend sailing with him.
The reason for doing this course was to see if we would like being on a sailboat for extended trips like chartering or living in the future and i have to say that we are now looking forward to our next sailing adventure.
Thanks Jamey!

Dear Harold - I know my husband has already sent you a personal email but I wanted to make sure our satisfaction with our sailing lessons were known. We took this trip together so that we cold learn how to better communicate on the boat when we sail, and to give me more confidence at the helm being the novice sailor I am. Captain Judy's instructions were wonderful and her patience was very appreciated. We had a lovely weekend and I came back with the thought of doing more classes for myself.
Thank you so much and we'll hopefully come back again soon!

-Worst Vacation
-DO NOT give you money to Island dreamer sailing school
-Complaints filed with the ASA and Florida Attorney General
My family of six (four adults, two children) arrived at the boat to find we had been assigned a boat that slept only four. Knowing that there would be only four pillows on which to lie six heads each night caused immediate tension. Add to it a sullen captain who immediately informed us that he had left his family on Christmas to sail with us, and it was a recipe for disaster.
Days one to three had beautiful blue skies. Boats all around us had their sails out as Captain Jamey Graham motored us around the keys rushing to a place each day where he could drop anchor. He taught my children to tie a few knots and I can only assume he equated that with teaching to sail as he never gave any other practical or didactic lesson for the duration of the trip. At our insistence, he raised the sails two times. Once for 25 minutes, once for 45 minutes. And all we did was move forwards with the sails open. Jamey did not allow us to maneuver the boat under sail AT ALL. Our log books remain blank. No written exam was given. When we complained to owner Harold Ochstein, Captain Jamey Graham sited “family tension” as his reason for not giving us the exam, taking no responsibility for the fact that the lack of sailing lessons, his surly attitude and the inability to sleep six bodies in four beds was the cause of the family tension.
Day three, Captain Jamey told us to get a hotel as it was going to be windy that night and the next day and he planned to dock his boat behind his friend’s house along a neighborhood canal with no walking access to stores or restaurants. A last-minute hotel, Christmas week in the Florida Keys. That cost us an extra $2900.
Upon arriving at the hotel, we contacted owner Harold Ochstein about our experience. He suggested we return to the boat, not the next day, but the day after, and on the final day of our trip he could teach us everything we needed to know to get us certified in sailing courses 101 and 103. This, of course is impossible, as you need a certain amount of classroom and practical hours to learn. Hence the complaint to the ASA.
The other remedy he suggested was to return at a later date to try sailing again. This was unacceptable because my family feared being subject to these conditions again, and ruining yet another vacation. Learn from my mistake and do not spend your money on Island Dreamer Sailing School

"I am sorry that the charter with your family was not what we all would have wanted it to be. I feel that the activities you participated in fit our charter standards and exceeded industry standards. You were well on you way to earning your certifications. And by the end of the week you would have accomplished that, with both the knowledge and skills required in the ASA standards, and in spite of the family discord that was occurring. It was your decision to leave the boat several days early.
When you contacted me during the charter, I immediately offered you a remedy for your situation by replacing your Captain with a new instructor and also offered to book you and your family on a future trip with continued instruction at no charge. You refused both of those options and decided to cancel the charter and leave.
You contacted Visa and American Sailing Association, both organizations looked objectively at the contracts and narratives provided by both of us and came to the conclusion that what we supplied and the remedies we offered were acceptable. I will be happy to supply those narratives to anyone requesting it so they can draw their own conclusions about our actions."

Our family of 4 enjoyed a wonderful day with Cap Ron on a sailing day trip to Boca Chita Key. Cap Ron is very knowledgeable about the park. He cared for us very well throughout the day. Boca Chita Key is a beautiful destination. We enjoyed our picnic lunch, snorkeling and a VIP trip to the top of the lighthouse. I would recommend Island Dreamer Sailing to couples and families interested in a relaxing day of sailing.

My daughter and I had a great day today on Biscayne Bay with Captain Ron. We sailed across the bay about six nautical miles to Adams Key. There we kayaked and snorkeled in a lagoon. The weather was beautiful, the wind was great, the current was a challenge to kayak. Captain Ron was generous with information about sailing, mangroves, and the Bay.

Not because it was a bad experience but because it was pretty awesome I thought. Was initially hoping to get to go to Boca Chita but went to Adams Key instead because our trip was this past Sunday. Boca Chita is a weekday adventure only so keep that in mind when you book. Capt. Ron took the four of us out for a full day sail (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.). We didn't have time to stop on the way to pick up lunch to take with us but was able to pick up some sandwiches and drinks in the Biscayne Visitor Ctr gift shop to put in the cooler on the boat before leaving. Capt. Ron was very nice and informative. He's really a down-to-earth type of person that loves what he's doing. On the way over, he told us quite a bit about the BIscayne and surrounding islands and keys, as well as the history surrounding them all which we found quite interesting. He told us about the boat we were in and even let my husband and dtr's boyfriend help with the sails. Didn't get to sail on the way over because the wind wasn't cooperating as it was blowing from the direction we was wanting to go. It was cloudy that morning so the trip over was a little on the cool side. Once we got to Adams Key, the sun had come out so it was much nicer. Mosquitos are probably bad there. I was bit a couple times almost as soon as I stepped off the boat (forgot my insect repellant). Capt. Ron told us about the Cuban refugee boats that you see on the island. That was interesting to be able to see them and hear the story as to why/how they were there. After eating our sandwiches, we decided it was time for kayaking and snorkling. Ron got us all situated with our gear (tandem kayak, a couple of paddleboards and snorkles) and off we went to go play in the small lagoon. The wind was still blowing quite a bit from the direction we wanted to go so paddling was somewhat difficult at times. Would have loved to have had more time for snorkling but because it was so difficult to get to the lagoon that day our time was quite limited for that. I would advise eating a good breakfast before going, taking some drinks (or drink the water that is provided) and then maybe taking a sandwich/snack to eat on the boat on the way back after you play. The trip is 2 hrs of sailing each way. The other 2 hrs you get to spend playing in the water or exploring the island, whichever you prefer although we didn't think that there was a whole lot to actually see on the island other than what you see when you get off the boat, unlike Boca Chita I suppose. The ride back was pretty awesome though. Sun was out, wind was blowing enough so that we could sail, water was beautiful. It was really relaxing/soothing to just sit or lay back on the boat and sail along. We didn't see much marine life while we was out although we did see some fish just before we got to the lagoon. Didn't see much really snorkling but it was still fun being that it was our first time and we was learning. I wouldn't hestiate one bit booking another trip with Island Dreamer Sailing and would recommend them to everybody I know that was going to visit that area. Our first time sailing and snorkling was made possible by Island Dreamer Sailing and Capt. Ron...Thanks for the wonderful memories made. Hope to see you again (during the weekdays though lol).

Do you offer outing for Memorial Day air show Sunday for 2, and what cost?

Hello and thanks for your question.
Unfortunately I can’t answer as I don’t work of island dreamer.
I would recommend contacting them by phone or email. Both can be found on their website.
Have a great day.
