Stepping into the New World Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall in Miami Beach is like entering a cathedral dedicated to the art of music. Designed by the renowned architect Frank Gehry, this architectural masterpiece, located in the heart of South Beach, stands in stark contrast to the bustling nightlife and vibrant beach scene typically associated with the area. The acoustics here are nothing short of magnificent, providing a sanctuary of sound.
Each visit to this iconic venue is a unique experience, thanks to the innovative programming that includes not only timeless classics but also cutting-edge contemporary pieces. The concert hall’s design ensures that whether you’re seated front and center or at the back, you can hear every instrument with crystal clear clarity. It’s a testament to Gehry’s architectural genius and the meticulous attention to acoustic design.
Musically, the orchestra has been under the direction of illustrious conductors, from Michael Tilson Thomas to its current maestro, the French virtuoso Stéphane Denève. The musicians, high-level students honing their craft, perform with a mastery that belies their years, often accompanied by world-renowned soloists. Recent performances have included gems like James Ehnes with John Williams’ concerto and Jean Yves Thibaudet’s rendition of Ravel’s concerto, conducted by Tilson Thomas himself.
For those who can’t afford a ticket, the New World Symphony ensures accessibility to the arts with live concerts projected on a gigantic screen in the adjacent park—a magical experience under the stars. Additionally, visitors can admire the structure’s striking façade and access the terrace for a breathtaking, free view of South Beach. Whether you are a die-hard classical music aficionado or a casual listener, the New World Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall is a must-visit. Its blend of stunning architecture, superb acoustics, and dynamic performances makes it a cornerstone of Miami Beach’s cultural landscape. Don’t miss the chance to immerse yourself in this auditory paradise and soak in the panoramic views whenever you’re in the city.

If you are in Miami Beach, check their calendar. We went to a very fun free concert with up to 5 musicians in a small theater which is part of their concert hall.

We went to a Chamber Music concert and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great concert hall acoustics. And the rooftop Garden is not to be missed - great views of the surrounding South Beach area.

We've lived in the Miami area for four years but didn't know this existed . We got to watch these amazingly talented young musicians play for the first time and so worth it. The venue is intimate not concert hall size but has beautiful acoustics and it's well worth a look at their program to see what's on for any classical music lover visiting the area.Highly recommend.

On a regular basis, the New World Symphony broadcasts its concerts on the big blank wall of its Frank Gehry-designed performance hall. That means that you can gather up your lawn chairs, your blanket, your picnic and your wine and settle down in the park in front of the concert hall for a free night out at the symphony. We were there with friends last night. We pulled into the parking garage behind the building ($15) about 6:45 and were spreading out our blanket by 7 pm. for the 7:30 concert. Several hundred people were already there, so I'd suggest coming a bit earlier, especially in season. I feel like we grabbed one of the last closer spaces on the right side of the screen area. The view is great; it's really entertaining to see a symphony broadcast with closeups etc rather than just watching from a seat in a hall. And the sound system outside is truly outstanding. Can't say enough about that. Although the audience is right on one of the city's busiest streets, the street noise doesn't interfere with your enjoyment, even when a Ferrari runs through its gears. Most people were sitting in normal-size lawn chairs (as opposed to shorter sand chairs). It was a congenial crowd, bigger than I expected in drowsy November.

We dropped in here as we happened to be in the amazing park in front. It’s a world class Symphony hall and ultra modern. Believe some concerts are free.

We went to see the St. Olaf choir (don't ask, my partner is Norwegian) and the music was fine, but the venue is impressive. Very beautiful, not too big, and the sound is first-class. I haven't been down to see one of the Wallcasts, but that is next on my list (listen to music for free outside the auditorium, and watch a screencast on the wall.) We drove back on Collins and A1A because it was night and that was lovely. No white knuckles like 95 can be as you approach Miami.

The New World Symphony is a jewel in the heart of South Beach (Miami). It is led by the dynamic conductor Michael Tilson Thomas and it is composed of talented young musicians as they transition from outstanding musical academies like Julliard and the top university programs in the US and abroad to full time employment at symphonies .
Guest soloists and conductors provide a full array of teaching opportunities for the fellows.
The concerts are amazing. One can enjoy these exceptional concerts either inside the F Gehry designed concert hall for a very modest ticket price or outside on the amazing wall cast which is free.
Last night our small group elected to sit outside under the stars and enjoy the music of John Williams. MTT conducted some of the music scores while guest conductors and John Williams himself conducted excerpts from Star Wars. Itzhak Perlman was a surprise guest soloist and played the theme from Schindler's List with JW conducting.
A night to remember!!!
