If you want to learn about one of the foremost leaders of the Civil Rights movement right here in Central Florida, do not miss this place. And I strongly recommend that you come in February during Black History Month and attend an event where the Cultural Center Coordinator, Sonya Mallard tells the story of the Moores. If that doesn't move you, then I don't know what will. #NeverForget!

Really lovely and peaceful site hosts a moving and eyeopening educational experience. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. It was enlightening to hear about the early civil rights struggles and to learn about such a brave family. The replica of the house really helped to bring home the tragedy. The museum is very well done and the excellent displays help to show the progression of the civil rights movement.

Today's visit was wonderful. The introductory movie and museum helped us learn about the Moore's courageous stand for civil rights. This is worth a family trip to see and experience.

Being from the UK our history never focussed too much on Civil rights, it wasn’t in our back yard so never really featured much in our school work. Yes we all knew the name MLK and the events surrounding him and as far as we were concerned that was all we needed to know.
Wrong big time I discovered when I visited this fabulous Park and Museum.
Never in million years did I expect that Florida was the precursor to what effectively became the Civil Rights Movement thanks to the determination of the Couple after who this Park and Museum is dedicated too..
Finding myself with time on hand during a short 4 day trip to Titusville I spotted in the back of one of the area tour brochures item 6 indicted as The Moore Centre, Civil Rights Museum or similar. No indicator how to get there in the guide all very low key and hardly featured so I thought, I have to check this out.
Directions were scarce and as I entered into Mims I assumed I'd missed the place drove a little further and there was a sign for Moore Park. Great I am almost there.
I arrived after a short drive through part of the |Park to find an immaculate Building outside which proudly flew The American Flag. Parking was easy as the car park was practically deserted.
I made my way through the doors into the building and started reading some of the display in the atrium when I was approached by Kaylala who asked if she could help me. I said was hoping to have a look around the Museum and with that she said would care to see a short Film about the Great Man before or after I had been around the Museum. I said before and we went through into the Cinema Room where a short Film was played that through a hauntingly moving Ballard told the story of that awful Christmas Night that I was going to learn about.
After the Film Laylala showed me to the main exhibition hall and asked me if I would like to view it on my own or she was quite happy to accompany me and explain the exhibits.
I chose the later and boy was I pleased I did, Kaylala brought the story leading up to what happened and beyond vividly to life. She was fantastic in her delivery enthusiasm and knowledge. A brilliant ambassador for The Museum and I reason if Mr and Mrs Harry Moore are looking down they will be delighted that she is doing such a great job in keeping alive the story of their tragic ending but more importantly the reasons why.
I'll not dwell further on the exhibits and story behind them save to say that if you are in the area you have got to go and learn for yourself. It will be an education and if like me you have a limited knowledge about Civil Rights I am afraid it will not paint some members of my race (I am White) in a positive light.
After we finished I was asked if I wanted to go inside the full size replica home of The Moore Family located within the Park in what was originally the Families Orange groves. Of course I did. It was laid out and presented as it would have been that fateful evening with as much period furnishing as possible and as affordable.
Looking around it really brought it home seeing the bedroom beneath which the bombers planted the bomb leaving Harry who would have been knowingly sleeping above no prospect of survival.
All in all if you are local do yourself a favour and go look see, it could change your views on your Neighbour somewhat and you will certainly leave thinking how can those that wanted |and were in Power have been so small minded and fearful of ensuring that we are all equal. In the great scheme of things the only certainty in life is death,, it comes to us all.
There is no admission charge but hopefully you'll drop a few Dollars in the donation box to show your appreciation for a hard hitting and thought provoking place, the place where INHO Civil Rights took its first steps.
Kaylala thanks for a really great couple of hours you are a star.

I learned so much about the Moore family and their brave history. This place is beautiful inside and the staff is so friendly. The outside has a replica of the Moore home and the landscape is also beautifully maintained. New things are added all the time. Check it out!

I really liked this place and we learned a lot about civil right events in the central Florida area. It is fairly small so we only spent about an hour or two there. It was very quiet and peaceful. The best part was the guided tour as Lala was fantastic; very interesting and very informative. We will be back for events.

If you travel on U.S.#1 just north of Titusville, Florida, you may ask why you should turn off a couple blocks and go to this Memorial. I will tell you why it is worthwhile. Harry and Hariette Moore, for whom the County Justice Center is named, were teachers and pioneers in the civil rights movement in Florida. His initial activities were voter registration of blacks and equal pay for teachers. They fearlessly fought for those ideals they believed in, in spite of warnings of harm. On a Christmas eve, which was also their 25th wedding anniversary, their very rural home occupied by Harry, Hariette, her mother, and one of their daughters was dynamited. No one was ever prosecuted for this crime, however, there was very substantial evidence this was an act of the Florida KKK. This memorial, with a video and reconstructed home, allows you to learn not only about this couple but also about that time (40s & 50s) in Florida. It is invaluable to learning about an almost forgotten hero of the civil rights movement, his bravery, and his willingness to die for his values.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience visiting the Moore exhibit and home. We managed to tag along with a school group and the docent was excellent! The information provided in the exhibit building was wonderful and the recreated Moore home was exactly the way I imagined it. A must see if you're at the space coast in Florida.

Lots of people traveling through & by see the sign for Harry & Hariette Moore Memorial Park... but most folks seem to just drive by. That is a shame because before the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. & the Civil Rights Movement..... there were these these dedicated individuals right here in Mims, Florida.
Just a small fee. But a lot to learn and appreciate. Yes, important to learn...and worthwhile visiting.
