We were looking for something to do in the area… figured the place would be empty of Friday morning… parking lot was full…
Restaurant Busy and live music playing.
Our first glimpse had up worried but the history and story about this place is mind boggling. Solomon was a creative genius… with a sense of humor to boot. His creations need to be studied in depth… the tour guides are great…and I can’t wait to go again.
We didn’t eat at the restaurant but will next time.
Go hungry and play to spend the day. It is an enjoyable relaxing environment.

What a great place to visit. The drive was totally worth it! A local artist that offers ornate and creative art. Definitely the original up-cycler!

This is definitely a little gem of a visit in Florida. We have taken many family and friends here over the years and recommended it to many more. The meals in the Boat in the Mote are very good as well. However, there is a BUT here though....
We've visited almost annually for many years and got to meet Solomon himself. What a delight to see him and hear his stories and watch him in his workshop. What a creative imagination he had. Since he passed away though we have seen the entrance fees continue to rise sharply and now to take another couple with us is costing over $110 ... and that's before a meal in the boat. I don't think he would have approved of the newer prices. If you want an interesting event though and treat yourself, give it a go. We are just done with this attraction. Rest in peace Solomon!

The entire place including the restaurant looked very dirty. Do not waste your time or money! We did not eat or take the tour. Some people do not know that in Florida restaurants do not have to post health ratings. If a place looks sub par don’t eat there

On our drive from St Augustine to Tampa, we made reservations to see Solomon's Castle in the middle of nowhere on beautiful land here in Florida.
This castle was built by Howard Solomon, a high school dropout, with his bare hands and his own designs with whatever scraps of metal he could find or that were donated to him by others. He had friends and neighbors who helped him build. He built vertically because his land was more narrow than wide. So there are stairs to climb. Everything including his unusual artwork inside the Castle was donated or built by Solomon. He also had a 1930s collection of cars and trucks that are displayed at the Castle. His personal story is very interesting which will be told during the tour.
Visitors are not allowed to photograph the auto collection nor anything inside the Castle. There is no cell service/wifi there on the property. They do not use computers so everything is paid by cash: the tickets (we paid about $40 in cash for the castle tour and the classic car tour), the food, and souvenirs.
They are dog-on-leash friendly, which is nice. The staff is very welcoming and fun to interact with! The tour is very interesting with funny jokes thrown in.
Food is served on the boat and reviewers have been favorable about the meals offered. Remember, it is cash only.
Parking is free and at the entrance before you get to the Castle. Wear comfortable shoes. I was happy that we got to do the tour. I don't know that I would go back because it is so out of the way but it was worth the trip.

This review is being done to alert others to details about the tour NOT provided by the Solomon Castle website. My wife and I travelled well over an hour (one way) to get to the Castle. As we had been camping in an RV at a campground near Winter Haven, and had a pup with us, we are very careful to plan our outings in regards to time constraints so as NOT to leave the dog alone too long. We arrived at the ticket counter in the Boat in the Moat 15 minutes earlier than their 10 am opening time in order to be sure we could get on the first tour at around 10am (so we thought.) We were told that ….”our tour MIGHT start in 30 minutes or PERHAPS an hour….” It did appear that they did NOT wish to do a tour for just the two of us as it apparently would not be worth their time. The woman added…. “We can’t have someone else showing up walking up the path right after we started a tour for you….” The implication of this simply was that we’d be waiting for as long as it took to gather enough people to satisfy their monetary requirements – and we were never told how many people they needed in order to do a tour, nor is it mentioned anywhere on their website. You can NOT do a self tour through the buildings, i.e. you MUST do a guide led tour so you are at their mercy as to when that tour commences. We had hoped to do the 45 minute tour plus the added 30 minute tour (total 1 ¼ hours). When we were slapped with the idea of a tour we “Might get” in 30 minutes or “Maybe an hour wait”, we were about to abort the tours completely, but instead decided to sit down and have a cup of coffee and a piece of pie. Sadly, the coffee tasted kind of ‘funny’ and the pie (itself which was good) was served with some freezer burned ice cream. Luckily by 1030am there were another 10 people that had showed up… enough so that we would be starting the tour 1030-ish. What one needs to realize is simply this: Solomon Castle does not do reservations, (you do not need one, you can not have one) so one must drive for quite a distance to get there to buy your tickets for the tour. Huge problem if you have any time constraints is that there is NO GUARANTEE as to WHEN your tour might begin! We have been to all 50 states and gone on many different tours and NEVER have we encountered this sort of tour operation. We concur that the tour was ultimately interesting- however, it is not acceptable that this business seems to not respect their patrons’ time.

The entire experience was AMAZING. My husband, who HATES going to homes/castles loved this too. Interesting story, not a stuff art museum, but a fascinating one with loads of bizarre and well done pieces in all mediums. The tour was just so well done and polished and there was loads to see. We both LOVED it.
AND lunch w/fantastic as well...the pot pie and pot roast were both outstanding.

We did not pay to go inside, but the grounds were lovely. It's an interesting display of someone's creativity. There's a restaurant too, but we did not eat there.

This is truly an amazing place in the countryside of rural Florida. The restaurant on site is outstanding with fresh foods and great desserts.
The whole experience is amazing and the castle itself is remarkable. The artwork that individual did was purely magnificent to be a great place to go with a family and kids 90 acres of just pure pleasure. These people working are just wonderful, friendly, helpful and make for an interesting adventure
One thing you learned when you visit this location is there is no such thing as junk!

The genius that Solomon had is breathtaking. Using metal, junk, and wood, he created a vast array of Art. Then his building skills exhibited with the Castle and the Boat are also amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The food at the Bost was also very good. One caveat we went there expecting a tour when they opened at 10 AM. Had to wait til 10:30 to get enough people for a tour!

I recommend you reach out to Solomon’s Castle directly. If it is not a service animal, then you may NOT be able to bring it with you INSIDE. They may allow it on the grounds, but you should contact them. Worst case, with the weather as mild as it is, your pet could stay in your car while you do the tour.

12/2024. IT was about $38 cash to see both the castle and the classic car collection. Everything is cash there, no credit cards, no checks.
Skrevet 16. januar 2025
I suggest that Sharon checks their website as their prices seem to be complicated. And remember, everything is in cash at the Castle.

There were a lot of people there the day we went and I did not seen anyone in a wheelchair although there were several people using a cane or walk assisting device. There are some steps inside of the castle though it is usually just one or two up or down. I don't think that a wheelchair or scooter could go on that tour. You do not go up to the second floor on the tour at all.
I believe that the ship portion can be accessed by a wheelchair via a ramp or around the backside where it connects to garden gift shop area. The other portion of the tour which can be bought separately is in an outbuilding and I believe that would be able to be accessed with a wheelchair/scooter.

Does anyone know how much is the price for adults, seniors, and children? Thank you.
Skrevet 11. oktober 2019
They do not accept credit cards! We paid $16 for the traditional tour of the downstairs only. There is a tour of both downstairs and upstairs for an additional charge. Check out their website!

Yes! There is a restaurant inside a ship that Mr. Solomon built. We didn’t have a chance to eat there but we heard the food is good, especially the desserts. It looked really cool. On the tour itself, there is no place to sit as you walk through rooms filled of art and into the living quarters. There are outside benches to sit on while waiting for the tour to begin.

I don’t know about the B/B part. It is best to ask the owners and check out the room.
