When we visited there was a special Impressionism exhibit - which was interesting. We also enjoyed there permanent exhibits which contained a nice variety of artworks.

I returned again to the Norton Art Museum which is worthy of extollment. It is in my favorite art museum in Florida. I saw 2 impressive temporary exhibits,"Artists in Motion:Impressionist and Modern Masterpieces From The Pearlman Collection"(it ends February 18 2024)and "Presence :The Photography Collection of Judy Glickman Lauder"(it ends March 18,2024).
The "Artists In Motion:Impressionist and Modern Masterpieces From The Pearlman Collection Exhibit"features outstanding paintings by Paul Cezanne and Chaim Soutine and splendid sculpture by Jacques Lipchitz.Paintings that especially captivated me were Paul Cezanne's"Provencal Manor",Alfred Sisley's"River View",the paradigm of quality French Impressionism,Vincent Van Gogh's"Tarascon Stagecoach",Amadeo Modigliani's"Jean Cocteau",Edgar Degas'"After The Bath",and Oskar Kokoshka's"Henry Pearlman".I also appreciated fine sculpture by Jacques Lipchitz("Marsden Hartley")and Giacomo Manzu("Oskar Kokoshka").
At the "Presence:The Photography Collection of Judy Glickman Lauder Exhibit",I appreciated fine photographs, primarily silver gelatin prints by the giants of 20th Century Photography such as; Sally Mann,Richard Avedon,Diane Arbus,Weegee,Helmut Newton, and Roman Visniac, among others.Personal favorites were Ruth Orkin's"American Girl in Italy",Roman Vishniac's"Grandfather and Grand Daugther",Nan Goldin's"Self Portrait in Kimono With Brian",color photo,Barbara Morgan's"Spring On Madison Square,New York City"(multiple print photogram, silver gelatin print)and Jerry Uelsmann's"Small Woods Where I Met Myself"(fantastic reflections).
As usual,I enjoyed the Norton Art Museum's outstanding permanent collection of 20th Century Art,including splendid paintings by Claude Monet,Pablo Picasso,Henri Matisse,Pierre Bonnard,Georgia O'Keefe,Edward Hopper, and Stuart Davis. For further information please call 561-659-6786. Currently, the Norton is normally open seven days a week.

Loved the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit, the whole reason why I dragged my husband to the gallery, our first time there.
We enjoyed a lovely patio lunch at the gallery beforehand. Afterwards we strolled the grounds and enjoyed the exhibits there.
Unfortunately we had no idea there is a second floor! So we have an excuse to go back again!

The Norton Museum was an experience my 19 and 21 year old children wanted to experience while on vacation in West Palm Beach. They love immersing themselves in art from around the world and various time periods. The Norton did not disappoint. The expansive first level consisted of a wide variety of time periods like the Renaissance to world renown artist like Picasso. It is always intriguing for me to read about each painting and the meaning behind them.
All our our favorite piece collectively at the Norton and any museum to date for that matter was Purity. A white Iranian onyx sculpture by Barry X Ball. It was unlike anything we have ever seen as we stared in awe of its beauty. We each had our own second liking as well. For me it was the painting by Mark Tansey called Triumph over Mastery II. The longer I stared at it, the more I saw. It was difficult for me to walk away and I actually went back again to to take it all in one more time before leaving. The Colossal Buddha Head dating back to circa 673-705 was an intriguing artifact that also grabbed my eye especially from that era. I collect buddha heads to this was indeed a delight for me to see.
The museum consists of three floors. It took us about 2.5 hours to go through the museum but keep in mind I read about most of the pieces in there so it took me a little longer. I want to also mention that I thought it was so cool walking up to the museum to see the art in front. My kids didn't know what the art piece was so I explained it to them...guess I dated myself a little bit. I will not say what it is so you can guess if you don't know either but will post a picture.
There is a parking lot across the street where you can park all day for $5.00. Adults are $18.00 for admission and students are $5.00 (must show student ID). Healthcare, Military and first responders are free, again with ID. I forgot mind because I was on vacation and didn't think I would need it so I paid full price.
Overall it was a great museum and would highly recommend it.

First time visitor while on a trip to West Palm Beach where I stopped for a visit. The museum's European and American painting collection which includes some Impressionist and American Realist paintings were very nice. I've been to some of the art museums in state of Florida and this is one of the better ones. It's small in size in comparison to museums in northeast, but I still enjoyed the offerings and the visit.

This is another update. A few days ago,I visited the Norton Art Museum again.I have spent may wonderful hours at the Norton since I moved to Florida in 1979. The Norton Art Museum's collection of 20th Century American Art is the hallmark of excellence. However,in this review ,I will disseminate information about the excellence of the temporary "At the Dawn of New Age 20th Century Modernism"exhibit from New York City's Whitney Art Museum(it ends July 16 2023)
"At The Dawn of New Age 20th Century Modernism"exhibit,Georgia O'Keefe,Marsden Hartley,and sculptor Elie Nadelman are extremely well-represented.Favorite paintings that day were;Marsden Hartley's"Landscape,New Mexico" and "Painting Number 5",Georgia O'Keefe's"Black and White"and "Music,Pink,Blue Number 2",Oscar Bluemner's"Old Canal Port"(awesome reflections),Arnold Bloch's"Mountain"(very Expressionistic),Carl Newman's"Bathers"(fine resplendent colors),William Zorach's"Woods in Autumn",Charles Burchfield's"Night Scene With Clouds",Florine Stettheimer's"Sun",Max Weber's "Chinese Restaurant",and Yun Gee's"Street Scene"plus delightful sculptural creations by Elie Nadelman.
As usual,I enjoyed fine 20th Century American Paintings from their permanent collection by Childe Hassam,George Bellows,Walt Kuhn,Robert Henri,Milton Avery,Guy Wiggins("Flatiron Building,New York City"),Fairfield Porter,and Phillip Pearlstein,among others.
Being at the Norton Art Museum is a special experience.

Excellent collection of art and ancient pottery and vases. Definitely one of the best art museums in Florida and worth the visit. They also have after hours music on select evenings. Students get discounts so it makes it a value visit for bigger families.

Howleys 50 style diner is close by, good food in an interesting setting. City Place is good, or you could drive 15 minutes south to Lake Worth, an interesting artsy city with lots of good restaurants. Dave's Last Resort is a good option. Drive south on US 1, have lunch or dinner then head over the bridge to take A1A, beach road, back to West Palm. Beautiful drive. LW has a hunderd year old downtown Old Florida vibe. City Place is more upscale.
